HERE'S ONE EVENT WE MISSED, AND IT'S TONIGHT, MONDAY, OCT 5:
+
Works Progress Administration, aka WPA, is an all-star ensemble of musicians who have been there, done that, as members of other bands.
+
They are:
Sara Watkins (Nickel Creek)
Glen Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket)
Sean Watkins (Nickel Creek)
Luke Bulla (Lyle Lovett, Ricky Skaggs)
Greg Leisz (Joni Mitchell, Bill Frizell)
Benmont Tench (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers)
Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello & The Imposters)
Davey Faragher (Elvis Costello & The Imposters)
+
A New York Times feature on them was published Aug 21. Each member has already sold millions of albums, and some have been inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame. They assembled the band and new album without the support of a label, and initially without a manager, purely for the joy of playing together. Their self-titled album (produced by Jim Scott (Wilco, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Rolling Stones) is out now and getting great reviews.
+
They play an 8:30 pm show Mon, Oct 5 at Largo, on very short notice, as part of a big national tour. They’re hitting fall festivals and playing the “A” list of folk venues in other cites across the US. If you see the L.A. show or one of their other dates, email and give us as review for the site.

LA is the hometown for most of these musicians, and this ‘supergroup’ formed out of the community of musicians who often perform at Largo, so the L.A. show is a homecoming.
