*Mon, every Monday; workshop for artists:
7:30-9:30 pm “MAGIC INGREDIENT SONGWRITING SEMINAR” with BILL BURNETT, is a continuing workshop series for artists at a private residence in Altadena. Reservations get directions; contact co-producer Duane Thorin for info or to apply, at 323-627-0662 or duane@duanethorin.com.
+
BILL BURNETT is an accomplished professional songwriter of depth, versatility and accomplishments (check him out at www.billburnettsongmine.com). His years of writing songs for countless performers, TV shows and the stage have led him to develop a method to seek-out magic ingredients that make songs spring to life. The series’ promo promises:
• “Learn the 20 tricks of kicking your own butt and finding your own magic.”
• “Master the Ten Tenets of Anti-Boredom.”
• “Uncover the magic hiding in your own fingers, piano keys, voice, heart and mind.”
• “Study songs from masters of all persuasions, like Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Rodgers & Hart, Yip Harburg, Randy Newman, and discover their tricks for creating magic.”
• “Revisit the fundamentals of rhyme, rhythm, melody, harmony and structure – the lost art of song craft.”
• “Then apply all this to your own work and write better songs.”
+
Series co-producer DUANE THORIN says, “This exciting 7 week course [recurring] will change the way you write. Magic. That’s the ingredient that makes the difference between ordinary songs and world-class classics. And it’s the one thing most songwriters overlook when they write. Each session examines the best works and magic of certain fine songwriters, much as Bill does on the Songmine site, and then gets hands-on, discussing the myriad ways to make songs eloquent, interesting, and yes, magical.”
+
Space is limited. First time is free (please make a donation); then, it’s $30 per session a la carte, or $160 for 8 sessions pre-paid (an $80 savings).
