Wednesday's Best Events, August 29, 2012

.
There's a fun FREE event, 6-9 tonight; the TRISHAS play a set in Hollywood at 7 pm (en route to playing the STRAWBERRY MUSIC FESTIVAL this weekend); there's a fun short film on TV, and a good show in San Diego; but the best show in the L.A. area starts late, at 9 pm.
.
PLUS A COUPLE OF ADDITIONAL THINGS, added late...
.
Here's what's up...
.
6 pm Singer-songwriter ROBERT MORGAN FISHER does a performance-interview on web radio at www.indieshowcase.net
.
6-9 pm "WILD WEST CONCERTS SUMMER FINALE" and BBQ brings THE SILVERADOS (not Mike Nadolson's Silverado Bluegrass Band) to Temple City Park, 9701 Las Tunas Dr, Temple City (in the SGV). Also performing is TRICK ROPER DAVE and there's professional line dance instruction. Despite the series' name, this finale is the only nominally western show, and the band is really rather country. The BBQ looks good: $8 ($7 advance) for tri tip or chicken, with sides. Band plays in an excellent bandstand-gazebo. Plenty of shade trees. Bring a chair or blanket. Your own picnic is okay. FREE CONCERT.
.
THE TRISHAS, a female ensemble that sounds good and folky, plays the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood at 7 pm.
.
In San Diego at 7 pm, ELENI MANDELL and CHARLIE WADHAMS play Anthology.
.
DUANE THORIN, with his reconstituted SOUL RUSTLERS, plays Viva Cantina's front stage tonight and tomorrow in Burbank. No cover, no minimum, free parking across the street at Pickwick Bowl, good food. Appearing with the Soul Rustlers are touring guitar couple Lisa Carbe and JP Durand of the fiery acoustic guitar trio INCENDIO. Also appearing as a SOUL RUSTLER is fabulous flatpicking guitarist Alex Finazzo. You will know him from his bluegrass collaborations with the great Evan Marshall.
.
The best L.A.-area show is HAPA at 9 pm at Sainte Rocke, 142 PCH, Hermosa Beach. The NY Times calls HAPA "The most successful Hawai'ian music troupe in recent history." Doors at 5, so you can go early and eat there. Aloha.
.
On TV, 8:47-9 pm, "ON THE AIR" (1939) is on Turner Classic Movies on cable or satellite TV. Big bands do "It Had to Be You," "Tea for Two," and more.
.
.
There's MUCH more, as always, in the latest full edition of the Acoustic Americana Music Guide ... latest is the August 24 edition of "Spotlight Events" and it's available below or in the sidebar at left, depending on which edition you are reading.
.
Much more soon!
