Tuesday: Live, Sure, and SURPRISINGLY good TV...

Summer ends with Labor Day? HAH! Neither does good music. In the next full edition of the Acoustic Americana Music Guide's "Spotlight Events" section, we'll bring you a round-up of the incredible number of FESTIVALS in September and October. But that is then. This is now. Here's what's up tonight:

We'll start with TV, 'cause it's blue-moon rare when it's this good.

4:30-5 pm THE CIVIL WARS on "Unplugged."
5-6 pm NORAH JONES on "Storytellers."
6-7 pm RAY LaMONTAGNE on "Storytellers."
7-9 pm "Hangout Festival 2012" from Alabama, with performances by WILCO, THE DAVE MATTHEWS BAND, ALABAMA SHAKES, DISPATCH, GARY CLARK JR, DAWES, and more.
9-10 pm (Take an hour off.)
10 pm-12:30 am PAUL SIMON, JOHN FOGERTY, and BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN on "Hard Rock Calling," from the 2012 annual festival in London's Hyde Park.
12:30-2 am NEIL YOUNG is honored as "MusiCares Person of the Year" (2011) with performances of his songs by JACKSON BROWNE, JOHN MELLANCAMP, JOHN FOGERTY, ELVIS COSTELLO, Neil himself, and many other music luminaries.
2-3 am GRACE POTTER & THE NOCTURNALS on "Storytellers."

7 pm JC HYKE'S weekly SONGWRITER SERENADE brings a lineup of recording artists for acoustic sets at Matt Denny's Ale House in Arcadia. All ages, no cover.

7-9 pm monthly "DOWNEY DULCI-DIDDLES HAMMERED DULCIMER PRACTICE GROUP" welcomes all levels for casual music playing, practicing, tune-sharing. Info and location, www.Celticana.net

At 8 pm is a Guide "Show-of-the-Week" pick: JOHN HIATT plays Sainte Rocke, 142 PCH, Hermosa Beach.

Also at 8 pm, DEBRA LEE & TRIGGER HAPPY play the Cowboy Palace, 21635 Devonshire St, Chatsworth. Preceded by free swing dance lessons with Ed at 7 pm. No cover.

The weekly "TRADITIONAL IRISH MUSIC SESSION" happens at Timmy Nolan's Tavern and Grill, 10111 Riverside Dr, Toluca Lake 91602.

At 8:30 pm, pianist MARC BOSSERMAN plays The Varnish, 118 E Sixth St (behind Cole's) in downtown L.A. Marc says, "solo piano, some singing."

Before you leave for work tomorrow, set your TV recording device to catch "THE VOICE THAT THRILLED THE WORLD," a 1943 short that tracks the history of sound for motion pictures. It includes a clip of AL JOLSON singing in the first feature-length "talkie," "THE JAZZ SINGER," from 1927. It's on Turner Classic Movies on cable or satellite TV, 4:41-5 pm.
