6-10 am “THE DUST BOWL” re-airs both parts consecutively. Part 1 is “THE GREAT PLOW UP,” 9-11 pm; Part 2 is “REAPING THE WHIRLWIND,” 11 pm-1 am. It’s KEN BURNS’ latest documentary for PBS, detailing the environmental catastrophe that destroyed the farmlands of the Great Plains and caused apocalyptic dust storms that spanned the continent during the Great Depression in the 1930s. Part 2 chronicles how many sought refuge in California from the plains states; the ostracism and violence they faced; how WOODY GUTHRIE gave voice to their plight; how government New Deal programs helped (rescued) them; how government-led conservation efforts worked in conjunction with a break in the drought in 1939 to stabilize the soil and inject new life into farms. Includes vintage old-time string band music, firsthand stories of survivors, photos and film footage of the era. (Repeats Noon-4 pm.) On PBSOC.

BRANTLEY KEARNS is a renaissance man. A trained stage actor as well as a musician, he first came to the attention of the masses and the industry when he started playing with DWIGHT YOAKAM in the mid-'80s. It's Kearns' fiddle playing that kept Yoakam's debut release, “Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.” so traditional. The video of the title track also focused on Kearns' magnificent playing style. He was a featured player and background vocalist on “Hillbilly Deluxe” and “Just Lookin' for a Hit,” and his background vocals were prominent on “Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room.” As a player, he’s mastered many instruments; mandolin and guitar are part of his arsenal. Brantley is revered as one of the best fiddle players in the business.

James Intveld is a current resident of Nashville who started his career at an early age, listening and singing along to his parents' recordings of Hank Williams, Sr., Dean Martin, Lefty Frizzell and Elvis. Initially, Intveld worked with his younger brother Ricky and friend Pat Woodward in a band known as THE ROCKIN' SHADOWS. The group dissolved when Ricky and Woodward left to work with RICK NELSON'S STONE CANYON BAND; both later died in the same airplane accident that took the life of Nelson. It was only fate that kept James from getting on that flight. It's a tragedy that cut, and still cuts deeply into his heart and soul.

As a multi-instrumentalist singer, songwriter and sideman, James' name seems to crop up everywhere. He's in high demand for his skills as a player; as adept at the slap bass, slide, steel, and drums as on guitar. He's done everything from playing bass with DWIGHT YOAKUM to lead guitar with THE BLASTERS and most recently with JOHN FOGERTY. Intveld wrote the ROSIE FLORES hit "Cryin' Over You."

He wrote all the material on his own first 1996 effort "James Intveld." It was named the “Best Studio Recording Project” and the “Best Country or Roots CD” of 1996 by California's Music Connection magazine.

Intveld successfully produced, arranged, sang, and played all the parts on this magnificent release, dedicated to his brother and best friend, the late Ricky. James is continuously cast in movies, TV and videos. James was the singing voice of JOHNNY DEPP's character in the JOHN WATERS’ film “Cry Baby.” Other credits include SEAN PENN's directorial debut, "Indian Runner," and "Thing Called Love," with the late RIVER PHOENIX, BILLY CRYSTAL's HBO production, "#61," and his role starring beside BILLY BOB THORTON in the motion picture, "Chrystal".
