+
The résumé of this stalwart soul and gospel figurehead includes significant contributions across the decades as a singer, songwriter and guitarist. Born in Cleveland, he and his four brothers formed a vocal group there, THE WOMACK BROTHERS. It was inspired by their gospel-singing father, FRIENDLY WOMACK. The boys made their first record when Bobby was just ten, and were eventually discovered by the legendary SAM COOKE, who changed their name to THE VALENTINOS, signed them to his own SAR label, and employed Bobby as his onstage guitarist.
+
Bobby Womack eventually went on to write songs recorded by WILSON PICKETT, GEORGE BENSON, JANIS JOPLIN, and many others. A solid guitarist who worked on the Memphis session scene, Womack played on sessions for ARETHA FRANKLIN, RAY CHARLES, JOE TEX, KING CURTIS, DUSTY SPRINGFIELD, and other soul and original (real) R&B artists.
+
Recording under his own name, Womack scored a string of hits over the next three decades. From 1970 to 1990, Womack was popular and prolific, charting 36 singles. These include the hits "That's the Way I Feel About Cha," "Woman's Gotta Have It," and "If You Think You're Lonely Now."
+
The man’s talent as a musician “is matched only by his self-lacerating honesty,” says the Grammy Museum’s promo. Womack will engage in a discussion, moderated by GRAMMY Museum Executive Director BOB SANTELLI, about his impressive career, and discuss his new critically-acclaimed album, “The Bravest Man in The Universe,” his first of new material in 18 years. After the discussion, Womack will perform a selection of songs. Public sale of tix began Nov 28. Tix, $20.

Every Tuesday night, this “SONGWRITER'S SHOWCASE” includes different musical talents, each for “a short but sweet set of original songs. Some have a great deal of professional experience and some are working up to that. Beth [performing host BETH FITCHET WOOD] plays a 45 minute set first (because she can) and then there are 3 or 4 other acts who do short sets. It's a very intimate setting, and all experiment with their new stuff. The audience is of the highest quality and the performers love playing for them.” -- Joyce Woodson.

For over 18 years, these guys have performed this show across America, Canada, Europe, and Asia. This is the longest running CCR tribute in the U.S., drawing large attendance and in high demand at major casinos, state and county fairs, festivals, corporate and charity events, major motorcycle and classic car rallies. FORTUNATE SON has entertained the troops at home and abroad.
+
Their all-ages show unites classic rock, country, blues, and folk music fans. From the swampy blues classics of “BORN ON THE BAYOU,” and “GREEN RIVER,” to the country influences of “BAD MOON RISING,” “LODI,” and “LOOKIN” OUT MY BACK DOOR,” and rock anthems “PROUD MARY,” “CENTERFIELD,” “WHO”LL STOP THE RAIN,” and “HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE RAIN,” classic songs are packed into every show. Vebue impresario BOB STANE assures us they are “delivered with the raw-authentic sound, look and feel of John Fogerty.”

  3. I started out to write and ask why so much of this is always so late: just before it happens. But I wanted to be fair about it. So I looked around at other calendars and googld some gigs from the past week or so of your posts. My findings are that nobody else can tell me about most of what you have here. Like the cd release at witZend. As if I would think to just go to their site or something. It takes time to go through this site but it is so worth it. But can you give me more day's notice?

  4. I work Downtown and have never been to Pershing Square. It's a stop on my subway ride to work. When it's a warm day I will try one if the lunch concerts there. I think people from my office are all going with me. None of them knew about this either.

  5. Nice point about buying Xmas presents at local art fairs! Sometimes farmer's markets have artisan booths too. Just watch out and don't spend for dumb junk that gets regifted next year.
