Wed, Feb 27, not music, but VERY worthwhile, in L.A.:
7:30 pm “THEATER OF WITNESS,” a performing group with torture survivors who live in L.A. County, perform tonight at Club Fais Do-Do, 5257 W Adams (between Fairfax & La Brea, near Redondo), L.A. 90016.
+
Group co-founder DIANE LEFER, with HECTOR & ALESSIA CARTONI, explains, “We've been creating ‘THEATER OF WITNESS,’ a performing group with torture survivors who live in L.A. County. Theatrically, it's an experiment. These people aren't actors, they've never spoken in public before, we've had scant rehearsal time, some participants dropped out, the script keeps changing and getting simplified. But regardless, we hope to get them a supportive audience of fellow Angelenos who can recognize their courage and the challenges they face here in L.A. as they work to rebuild their lives. Everyone is invited to celebrate these extraordinary men and women from Cameroon, El Salvador, Guatemala, Russia, and Uganda.” More at www.dianelefer.weebly.com.
+
Your editor adds, “I have been humbled in the company of survivors of torture at the annual Thanksgiving Day feasts at the Learning Garden at Venice High School, at the program run bt DAVID KING. The grace and presence of many of these individuals, who have endured things we cannot even imagine, is a profoundly moving experience.”
+
This is usually a music venue (ENZO will play, too) so there are lots of folding chairs, a stage and lighting. No reservations needed. FREE admission.
