Here's a short-notice call for music-makers to play a benefit THIS Wednesday evening, June 5, 2013, in the Palmdale-Lancaster area. That's an hour north of Los Angeles, and just north of the mountains where vegetation, wildlife habitat, and settlements are now being consumed by fire.

Southern California's first wild fire of the season is burning right now, with only 40% containment, thousands of acres burned, thousands of people and hundreds of horses evacuated, and people finding themselves in need as their lives are being forcibly changed.

Yes, we're in the midst of raising money to help victims of tornado devastation in Oklahoma. Artists may feel especially tapped to help, but that's nothing new. It's musicians who are often called right after the first responders, and sometimes before the politicians sort-out the disaster aid legislation. That's the case now.

DESERT SONG, an organization conceived and co-founded nine years ago by the Guide's editor as a vehicle to raise money for charity, is building a benefit concert to help victims of the Powerhouse fire.

Desert Song's longtime director, Wayne Slater-Luntsford, says, "If you would like to perform, we may have a slot for you Wednesday evening. No promises -- in three hours (or maybe just 2) we will want to present the artists who will have the largest draw, and while you may be one of them, please don't feel bad if you're not. If you would like to help with organizing the event, there is plenty to do."
+
He continues, "If you think this sounds like a good idea, please say you'll come, even if you can't be there the whole time. If you'd like to perform or help organize it, there's plenty to do; contact me. My employer blocks Facebook, so if you have a question or comment or would like to help, please email me."

Contact Wayne -- PROMPTLY, if you want to perform! -- his email is
