Thursday, and Here's (Not) Just the Musical Highlights -- July 18, 2013

.
.
Happy Birthday, NELSON MANDELA, a man who taught the world to overcome every reason for bitterness, hatred, and resentment, and instead practiced -- and taught -- love, cooperation, and how to imagine and obtain a bright and inclusive, creative and nurturing future for all. As you turn 95 today, we don't want to lose you. There are still many right here in America who need to be your students.

"Listening to Enchanted Realms feels rather like slipping past a veil of shadows to emerge upon a breathtaking dreamscape lit by the moon and stars, where magical things can happen, and almost anything can be believed in," says their rather heady promo. It continues, "Luminous melodies sparkling with the celestial are at the core of their sound - performed on acoustic guitar, folk harp, wood flutes, Renaissance recorder, pennywhistles, percussion and vocals." Well now, that DOES sound interesting!
+
Enchanted Realms members Scot Ryder and Theresa Rochelle-Ross "construct a vivid world of poetic and fanciful imagery woven around themes ranging from 'love’s varied secrets' to 'worlds beyond the mystic.'  Utilizing a sophisticated palette of colors for painting their musical expressions, Scot and Theresa exquisitely deliver each song to the listener with passion, warmth, love and joy, as well as with a graceful charm, quiet wit and a relaxed atmosphere of playfulness." They do have strong promo.
+
Scot Ryder is a composer and fingerstyle acoustic guitarist who brings his audiences an uplifting experience. Renowned for his cutting-edge style, described as a mix of folk, classical and flamenco, Scot blends his guitar playing seamlessly with colorful touches of melodic harmonics, percussive tapping, flourishes and embellishments.  His gorgeous original pieces and unique performance technique have made him a favorite among acoustic and folk enthusiasts worldwide.
+
Theresa Rochelle-Ross is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist & songwriter whose pure, haunting voice is the centerpiece of her performances.  As the underpinning for her vocals, Theresa deftly weaves her skills on folk-harp, wood flutes, recorders, penny whistles, and ethnic drums in compelling interpretations.  A veteran of the folk circuit, her appealing talents have captivated appreciative audiences over many years of performing in pubs, coffee houses, concert halls and a variety of old world and new-age festivals.

Nice comment on Nelson Mandela. You got the essence. And if any white people think the Trayvon Martin thing is just about another trial, they need to think about how hopes and dreams can mean something when they aren't gunned down.
