DUANE THORIN just did a truly impressive collaborative show with guitar legend DEL CASHER (inventor of the Wahwah pedal and headliner of an Association of Fingerstyle Guitarists festival). He'll bring BO ASTRUP, the bass player from that show. Duane promises his three originals will include "Waltadena," his anti-Wal-Mart song that is a favorite with Altadena denizens.

Bob Stane would have you believe that he has just returned from Siberia, slightly frost bitten, where he found this fine Russian act. We’ll humor him. Bob does so much and asks for so little in return. No gulag for him. Just miles and miles of snow and ice in his real fruit smoothies from the Coffee Gallery’s coffee bar. Bob says, “I love Russian acts. They lend an entirely new and unique flavor to The Coffee Gallery Backstage. As always, they are warm and wonderful and deserve to have you in the audience. Be a good person and support the unusual acts we bring to you and to Altadena. This is an experience. How many clubs would go to so much trouble to give you varied musical experiences? True acoustic.”

In 2001, THE CRYSTAL TRIO, in far away in Siberia, Russia, began performing on crystal glass. Today these professional musicians, Igor Sklyarov, Vladimir Popras and Vladimir Perminov, play special instruments made from glass: Glass Harp, Verrophone and Glass Panflute Bass. Glass Music, an ancient art, had success in many noble houses of Europe, Russia and North America in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and was often included as an integral part of the symphony orchestra.
+
Crystal Trio continues to develop the tradition of musical glass by playing well-known classical and popular modern works, as well as tunes specifically written for glass instruments. The current repertoire includes variations of popular classical melodies of Mozart, Boccerini, Glinka, and Vivaldi, in addition to original pieces written specifically for crystal glass. The mysterious, gentle murmurs of crystal glass allow the listener to understand known melodies in a new fashion; it opens secret, unexpected sides of classical musical pieces.

Here are some Crystal Trio reviews:
+
"The classically trained musicians of The Crystal Trio are bringing a very unique folk music tradition to new audiences around the world. With their engaging personalities and expansive repertoire, their programs appeal to factory workers and to symphony conductors alike." -- J. Chris Moore, Executive Director, Springfield Arts Council.
+
“The Crystal Trio were SUPERB! The church was packed (600 people) and everyone was buzzing about the music!” -- Keith Shafere of Tuesday Music Live in Augusta, GA.
+
“FANTASTIC!!!!! I was so very impressed! And so were all the members of my staff and my students. The teachers asked the Crystal Trio for CDs and they [each] bought one with their classroom account monies! I bought for myself as well. They even had several of the children come up and try the instruments. Huge success! Thank you so very much!” -- Delaine McDonald, Principal, Hiwassee Dam Elementary / Middle Schools.
+
“The beautiful music was a blessing to us. Their repertoire was astoundingly beautiful, seeing and listening to such sounds from these gifted musicians was very good. Those who attended their concert at Cuyler-Warren Street UMC were indeed surprised and thrilled to attend such a concert”
