Tue, Jan 7, in L.A.:
6:30-7 pm Annual "DOWNTOWN ON ICE COMMUNITY BROOMBALL TOURNAMENT" begins at the Pershing Square Ice Rink, at picturesque Pershing Square, 532 South Olive, downtown L.A.

No super skills required for this faux hockey fest. L.A. peeps together their teams and hit the ice with sneakers. The brooms, rubber ball, and hockey nets are all supplied.
+
Organizers tell us, "With the city’s skyscrapers as your backdrop, it’s the ultimate power play where the laughs keep the score in check. Elimination rounds progress two teams to the finals."
+
Games are played at 6:30 pm on Tue, Wed, and Thu nights in January, on the 7th, 8th, 9th, 14th, and 15th.
+
Championship finals happen Jan 16. The Championship match awards the winning team the coveted 'Pseudo Stanley Cup' and a post-game victory party.

Through January, in L.A.:
"JOHN FOGERTY: WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE," is the wonderful temporary exhibition at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, on display through this month. It features artifacts from his personal collection, and it is named after his current album, hailed by fans and critics alike. John Fogerty’s music was considered rock when he first made it with CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL, but, current and retro, it’s classic roots-rock-Americana now. The album received a rare 5-star lead review in Rolling Stone. Included with regular museum admission, which also includes the temporary exhibition, “RINGO: PEACE & LOVE.”

Guitarists Ethan Emerson and Ray Bergstrom anchor The Icy Hot Club, a Los Angeles-based group that plays modernized Gypsy Jazz in the style of Django Reinhardt. They often include re-worked versions of contemporary pop and rock songs, alongside traditional Gypsy Swing, with 3-part vocal harmonies. Generally consisting of two guitars and upright bass, Icy Hot Club adds violin, clarinet, and / or drums on some tunes.
