March 12 in history…

√  The record winter in the East is making history right now – against the background of temperatures that continue to rise globally, overall.

And not everyone in the Northeast is complaining about the cold.

For the first time in nearly a century, conditions have been perfect for "The Rocket" to sail the frozen Hudson River. Built in 1888, the ice boat was once the fastest thing on the planet. This marvel even caught Thomas Edison's attention--he filmed The Rocket in 1905. More in this clip from NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams:

"Seemingly Never-Ending Winter a Joy for Ice Boaters"

BIRTHDAYS…

√  Today is the birthday of music promoter and artist manager JEANETTE LUNDGREN, who runs MomHens Corner.

√  Today is also the birthday of failed presidential candidate MITT ROMNEY. And it is the officially-proclaimed “Alfred Hitchcock Day,” falling between “Worship of Tools Day,” and “Jewel Day.” Which may be significant to some.

√  A serious birthday note…

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) reminded us to offer Birthday wishes to the founder of “The Wall Memorial” in Washington, D.C. He is JAN SCRUGGS, whose birthday was yesterday, March 11. If you wish, you can send your birthday wishes to Jan at: jcs@vvmf.org

Finnen Morris wrote:
"Jan, How can I say a big enough THANK YOU! I am a Gold Star Daughter whose family never spoke of my father after his death. (Lt. Col. H.L. Morris, USMC, 4/1969). Your gift to so many hearts has done more healing in silent corners and large crowds than you will ever know. I wish for you to know that you healed my heart… to know that there was someone who cared enough to make the Wall a reality. That my father's death, as well as every other death from Vietnam, will never ever be forgotten. His name is somewhere for all to see and honor. I hope to visit The Wall this year for the first time… I hope to meet you one day and thank you in person. Have a beautiful birthday!"
