√ “THE DROP: JOHN FULLBRIGHT” is a CD release event presented in conjunction with the Americana Music Association & 88.5FM KCSN. It happens Mon, Jun 30, at 8 pm at the Grammy Museum in L.A. General on-sale begins Thursday, May 29, 2014 at noon. (American Express-only presale ended Wed, May 28, at 10:30 am.)
+
Just two years ago, John Fullbright released his debut studio album, From The Ground Up, to a swarm of critical acclaim. The LA Times called the record "preternaturally self-assured," while NPR hailed him as one of the "10 Artists You Should Have Known." The Wall Street Journal crowned him as giving one of the year's 10 best live performances, and the album also earned him the ASCAP Foundation's Harold Adamson Lyric Award. If there was any doubt that his debut announced the arrival of a songwriting force to be reckoned with, it was put to rest when From The Ground Up was nominated for Best Americana Album at the GRAMMY Awards, which placed Fullbright alongside some of the genre's most iconic figures. But for Fullbright, it hasn't been all the acclaim that means the most to him, but rather his entrance into a community of songwriters whose work he admires. Now, as part of our popular Americana Music Series, we celebrate Fullbright's latest work, Songs, released May 27. The arrangements on Songs are stripped down to their cores and free of ornamentation. Fullbright's guitar and piano anchor the record, while a minimalist rhythm section weaves in and out throughout the album. Songs has its moments of darkness, tracks born from pain and heartbreak, but for a craftsman like Fullbright, there are few greater joys than carving emotion into music, taking a stab at that lofty goal of immortality through song. Join us in The Clive Davis Theater for an interview with Fullbright, moderated by Vice President of The GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares, and performance. Doors at 7:30 pm. All proceeds benefit The GRAMMY Museum. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in person at the Museum Box Office at 213-765-6803, or online at www.grammymuseum.org.

At the heart of Jamestown Revival is a friendship that spans over a decade. Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance grew up together in the small Texas town of Magnolia. From a young age, they shared a love for music as well as the outdoors. About an hour north of Magnolia TX, there was some old family land with a dilapidated ranch house where they spent the better part of their adolescence. At one point or another, music from Creedence Clearwater Revival and The Everly Brothers, to fellow Texans Willie Nelson, Guy Clark and Stevie Ray Vaughan found its way through an old pair of speakers that sat on the back porch. At the age of 22, they moved to Austin and began to craft a sound of their own. Deeply rooted in harmony, they merged the sounds of the South with classic American and Western rock. Looking for adventure, as well as a change of pace, they eventually made the decision to head west and made the move to Los Angeles. Throughout the course of the next 12 months, they wrote their debut album, "UTAH." It's heavily autobiographical, telling the stories of their adventures, their discomforts and their observations. In order to capture the spirit of the music, the two found a log cabin high within the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. The pair, along with their band and engineer, set out to convert it into a temporary recording studio. With wild moose right outside the window, and aspen leaves spinning in the wind, they tracked the songs for "UTAH" live-to-tape and without headphones. Jamestown Revival is gearing up for life back out on the road with a national tour in May and June.

Four of the monologues are from the play ‘Talking With…’ by Jane Martin. ‘The monologues make direct emotional appeals that at times flirt with self-indulgence…A very pleasurable exercise for those of you who love good theater and stand-out performances,’ says FlagerLive.com.
