There are not too many places where you can walk the decks of a battleship. To do that today, on the anniversary of the attack on US battleships at anchor and at peace, the attack that brought the US into World War II? It's an opportunity to feel something very special.

♪ TAKE PART IN SOMETHING WONDERFUL ON SUNDAY

Have you ever wanted to perform with major music stars? Have you ever wanted to bring joy to folks who are shut-ins? What if I told you you could take part in a single event and do both?
Well, YOU CAN.
The 33rd Annual “LOS ANGELES HOLIDAY CAROLING FESTIVITIES” happen this Sunday, December 7, and YOU are invited to lend your voice (and bring your acoustic instrument), and join-in, to bring the healing and inspiring power of music to shut-ins. The “stage shows” feature such music luminaries as CARL VERHEYEN, stellar guitarist from SUPERTRAMP; PRESCOTT NILES, bassist from THE KNACK; FLORENCE LaRUE from THE FIFTH DIMENSION; stars from the L.A. Opera; and let’s take just one from the long list, one who is actually representative of the caliber of musicians who take part – LISA HALEY, Grammy-nominated Cajun-Zydeco fiddle-player / vocalist who played for played with Brian Setzer, Randy Newman, Lyle Lovett; and there are MANY, MANY more with global stage and screen and star recording session and gold and platinum records to their credit.
AND, there are plenty of ordinary folks who just want to join their voices in this wonderful event.
Everyone is there, making music, for the same reason: to bring joy to shut-ins for the holidays. There’s a great sound crew and professional photographers who take part, too.
So, how does this work? It is ALL very well produced and planned in advance, and for the past 32 years, it’s been carried-off with happy precision. By 4 pm, small groups are dispatched to go room-to-room and sing and bring cheer to bedridden shut-ins in the first facility visited. There are lots of groups of carolers, some with acoustic instruments, so the residents in each room hear plenty of different groups. Then, right on schedule, we all walk over to the second facility, where we do one or two shows in their dining hall, starting at 5:30 pm sharp. (The production company splits into two troupes, going different places, to spread more joy.) Then we pile-into carpools to drive a mile or two to the third stop, where we do another one or two "stage" shows in the dining hall. We finish with a group photo of the cast, then we all adjourn to a nearby restaurant that stays open late just for us, to mix, mingle, and pig-out.
