"In America, great migrations produce great music. Just as Delta musicians took Highway 61 to Chicago and electrified their blues, so did the Creoles and Cajuns migrate to California and establish vital dance communities. Now the California scenes rival anything back home in Louisiana, and that's due to players like Andre Thierry, a standard bearer for the new generation. Thierry is among the best of both the West Coast and the Gulf Coast, and he combines youthful vigor with a mature appreciation for his inherited tradition." --- Michael Tisserand, "The Kingdom of Zydeco."

+
Kevin Burton Smith, “Butler’s Coffee Music Guy,” says:
+
“Rompin' ROBBY BAUSCH is no stranger to Butler’s. Formerly with The Crosstown Cowboys, he's riding the singer/songwriter outlaw trail solo these days, and he's riding tall. A long-time Butler's favourite, Robby remains one formidable talent, a great songwriter and awesome guitarist. He has a warmth and affability (and a wit slightly drier than a Palmdale August) that goes down real easy.
+
“Then it’s time to bop with relatively new kid on the block, RALPH ANGEL, who’ll be treatin’ y’all to some rock therapy. This refugee from the U.K.’s a one-man Stray Cats, channeling Eddie, Gene and Elvis, as well as some surprising covers that he’s Angel-ized.
Remember when rock’n’roll was fun? So does Ralph!
Come on down, all you cats and chicks, and get your fix!
+
“And then it’s Showtime, as our old pal, singer-songwriter JOHN M. returns, to lay some pumping, thumping tunes on ya! Sure, he sounds at first like just another guitar strumming kinda guy, all coffee house navel-gazing, but trust me, John’s got a rock’n’roll heart, as much Pete Townshend as Jackson Browne, able to bypass piles of wimpy sentimentality at a single bound,
and as adept as turning a phrase as he is at kicking it all out.”

♪ ACOUSTIC BENEFIT FOR PARAQUAT KELLEY is SUNDAY, Dec 14

The “MIGHTY MET ACOUSTIC FLASHBACK BENEFIT FOR PARAQUAT KELLEY” brings many music stars on Sunday, December 14, to the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills.
+
Featured artists – all performing acoustically – include GEORGE THOROGOOD, JANIVA MAGNESS, PRESCOTT NILES, DAN NAVARRO, MICHAEL-ANN AZOULAI, KIKI EBSEN, PAUL BARRERE (LITTLE FEAT), BILL CHAMPLIN (CHICAGO), WADDY WACHTEL, CHRISTINA LaROCCA, JULIAN SHAH-TAYLER, RILEY BIEDERER, PETER STROUD, LANTZ LAZWELL, and more. Do you remember KMET, that uniquely wild and wonderful L.A. radio station that was quite simply the greatest radio station in the world in its time? (And may still be the greatest that ever was?) Well Whoo-ya to ya!
+
PATRICK “PARAQUAT” KELLEY was a pivotal person in rock history, and key figure in the craziness, good times, and socially and politically influential content that accompanied great music, live performance-interviews, pyrotechnic ambush explosions in the studio. He wrote and delivered the weekly “Fish Report with a Beat” and “Dirk Canyon, M.D” (the satire of every soap opera that ever was, and the place that introduced the legendary “Doctor Leon” – abba-loot-lee), and so much more. Now, Paraquat is suffering from MS, a severe debilitating disease, and he and his wife need our help to defray his huge medical expenses. So former KMET air staffers JIM LADD, CYNTHIA FOX, and JEFF GONZER are joining lots of musicians in a big benefit for their friend and former colleague. If you remember that wonderfully wacky counter-culture that was KMET, here’s your chance to re-live it for a night and do some good for one who brought us all so much unique and memorable entertainment during a previous era of dark political times.
+
A silent auction is part of the event. Among the donated items is an autographed personal guitar donated by RICHIE SAMBORA.
+
100% of the proceeds from this event, the silent auction, and ancillary funds raised will go directly to Pat's medical bills. For Pat and his wife Melody, these are a “tsunami of medical expenses” related to Pat's ongoing battle with MS.

“Red Beard” is set in a public hospital serving the indigent in rural, feudal Japan. The 1965 film asks profound humanist and existential questions relating to social injustice. Is there a way out of the dispiriting cycle in which victims express their pain by hurting others? How can we break cycles of suffering and violence? “Red Beard” is the last black-and-white film by Kurosawa, and the last Kurosawa film starring legendary Japanese actor TOSHIRO MIFUNE.
+
The screening is presented in conjunction with a live stage performance the FOLLOWING NIGHT by LOS ANGELES POVERTY DEPARTMENT (“LAPD”), the renowned theatre troupe made up of homeless and formerly homeless artists, with the theatre company celebrating its own 30th anniversary. The actors present their acclaimed work “RED BEARD, ” also free, but requiring a reservation. This is quite special, with a classic film and live theatre together over two nights.

If the phrase "male a cappella group" conjures up an image of students in blue blazers, ties, and khakis singing traditional college songs on ivied campuses ... think again. Straight No Chaser (SNC) are neither strait-laced nor straight-faced, but neither are they vaudeville-style kitsch. They have emerged as a phenomenon with a massive fanbase, numerous national TV appearances and proven success with CD releases. They're performing on the heels of the release of Under The Influence, their fourth album release through Atlantic Records. The album features contributions from superstars Jason Mraz, Rob Thomas, Phil Collins, Dolly Parton and more! Straight No Chaser is the real deal, the captivating sound of ten unadulterated human voices coming together to make extraordinary music that is moving people in a fundamental sense ... and with a sense of humor. On the road, Straight No Chaser has built a reputation as an unforgettable live act.
