Mr. Felder brings to life the remarkable story of Irving Berlin. Wed, Jun 24, in Altadena:
8 pm ASHLEY & EVERETT LILLY plus THE SONGCATCHERS play the Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N Lake Av, Altadena.
+
This is “A celebration of purity, style and entertaining authenticity,” says venue impresario Bob Stane.
+
The clear and authentic voice of Ashley Lilly is no surprise to those who are familiar with bluegrass music and Ashley's famous grandfather, Everett Lilly Sr. (The Lilly Brothers) who performed and recorded with Flatt and Scruggs. Ashley's father, Dr. Everett Lilly, performed on stage and/or recorded with the likes of Bill Monroe, Joan Baez, Vassar Clements (Crossing the Catskills),Jim Rooney and Bill Keith (One Day at a Time), the Charles River Valley Boys (Beatle Country), and the Lilly Brothers (Country Songs of the Lilly Brothers, Holiday in Japan, etc.).
+
The Songcatchers, a multi-generational traditional music group, was started by Everett at the University of West Virginia where Everett taught traditional music classes. The group has appeared at famous venues, including Mountain Stage (with Cathy Mattea), the International Bluegrass Music Association Fanfest, and the famed Lincoln Theater in Marion, VA, in a show with Doc Watson. The latter show was broadcast for a year on nationwide public television, bringing much visibility to this unique group.
+
Ashley recorded with the Sleepy Man Banjo Boys (The Farthest Horizon) and her newest CD, “Baby Blue Eyes,” will be released soon. Songs from the CD are being previewed on worldwide internet radio which has led to a planned summer tour in Ireland. The term that best describes the music of The Songcatchers is what Everett Lilly Sr. called, “American Folk Mountain Country Music.” In their entertaining shows, the sounds of the Southern mountains comes alive with the combination of Everett's unique style on the guitar and Ashley's crystal clear voice. The harmonies are sweet and heartfelt, and Everett's guitar work combines elements of Mother Maybelle Carter, Lesley Riddle, and Doc Watson. The audience is taken back to a special time in early country music and still the sounds are remarkably progressive and contemporary. This group is the “real deal” and their heartwarming show is reaffirming and uplifting.

The ACOUSTIC AMERICANA MUSIC GUIDE endeavors to bring you NEWS and views of interest to artists everywhere, more specifically to musicians and the creative community, and music makers and fans of acoustic and Folk-Americana music, both traditional and innovative. We provide a wealth of resources, including a HUGE catalog of acoustic-friendly venues, and schedules of performances in Southern California venues large and small. We cover workshops and other events for artists and folks in the music industry, and all kids o’ things in the world of acoustic and Americana and accessible classical music. From washtub bass to musical spoons to oboe to viola to banjo to squeezebox, from Djangostyle to new-fangled-old-time string band music, from sweet Cajun fiddle to pre-bluegrass Appalachian mountain music to proto blues.
