There's an abundance of live, recorded live, new and very vintage (okay, OLD stars of yesteryear stuff) performance shows — and NEW ones — plus Hollywood musicals resplendent with dyno-mite production numbers. And they're ALL on the small screen NOW, for Christmas Eve, on through the night, and lighting-up Christmas Day, into Friday night!
We're not even talking about that sappy Lifetime and Hallmark channel traffic jam of "waitress-meets-forklift-operator" for a "holiday miracle on aisle 10" tv-movie fodder. (Yeah, true, some of it includes some damn fine original music. But since we can't tell you, going-in, which ones feature a good composer and score, we just don't go to sappy story land. Na'gunna do it. Wouldn't be prudent. Nope.) But that isn't all you need to avoid. It looks like the horror channel isn't stowing the chainsaws for Christmas, and the moronic game shows will keep the loud dingers ding-ding-dinging and the applause lights lit for no apparent reason. Yeah, sadly, there's still a lot out there in the tv wasteland that can send you into the street screaming. But that junk is NOT in here. We're bringing you the good stuff. This issue is a feel-the-joy zone!
You're welcome. Oh, and you'll REALLY thank us when your over-opinionated, under-informed relative / holiday dinner guest decides to tell you all about Donald Trump. Boy, will you thank us then. Relief is a remote control away. Especially if you get everyone singing along with Botecelli or the Mariachi Divas or Bing Crosby or Andy Williams. Anything to make the bloviating relative stop. So we've got you covered. Added bonus? You don't need to stop cooking to tune your strings. Or slap 'em with a spatula. Just crank the volume on the Christmas tuneage.
And yes, we've got you covered TONIGHT for those 3 AM toy assembly / gift wrap marathons, with the latenight replays of some good music shows.
Christmas. The one time of year you don't mind those obscenely high cable bills.
★ To check out THE LIMITED AMOUNT OF LIVE MUSIC IN THE VENUES, SEE THE GUIDE'S "EVENTS" edition, published last week. It includes NEW YEAR'S EVE and plenty for the days before and after, including the first FESTIVALS of 2016!
Now, for peace on Earth with your tuneful teevee. Here's what awaits.
Oh. And Merry Christmas to all!
