A very big MUSIC NEWS EDITION will be along shortly. Meantime, A BUNCH of musicians are arriving for the annual NAMM Show, the music industry's biggest trade show, happening this coming week. And, being rational humans whose ways are paid by the instrument makers or other manufacturers who are their endorsers? Well, it just makes sense to play extra gigs while you're in Southern California, doesn't it? Especially if it lets you escape snow and ice at home. 8:30 am "WOMEN'S MARCH L.A." event starts in Pershing Square in downtown L.A. (ride the Red or Purple Metro subways to the Pershing Square Station; parking in the area is all pay-to-park and hard to find.) The actual march starts at 10 am, to reach Grand Park and City Hall by 11 am.
* IN L.A. — the nationwide event includes an area with LIVE MUSIC PERFORMANCES, ARTIST DISPLAYS, AND BOOTHS in Grand Park, downtown L.A.
* A very long list of politicians and activists are scheduled to talk in Grand Park until 3 pm. Yes, there is also live music there. On the main stage, there will be plenty of Hollywood “special guests,” including actresses LAVERNE COX, SCARLETT JOHANSSON, and OLIVIA MUNN.
* This year's march theme is "Power to the Polls" — NOT to the "pols" (as in the politicians), but to the POLLS, as in the places where we go to vote to hold those "pols" accountable.
* Another theme will be advanced: "Feminism, Not Militarism" and "an end to those making a killing on killing," with a call to divest from the War Machine, from the organization Code Pink.
