Acoustic Americana Music Guide, Sep 22 through 28

.
==================================
.
HERE'S THE GUIDE, AS SEPTEMBER NEARS ITS END
…and it brings to mind that wonderful old Stan Laurel bit (Laurel & Hardy) in which Stanley is reckoning the passage of time: “Septober, Octember, No Wonder…”
+
The editor still can’t use the computer as his recovery continues to progress from eye surgery (but he does supply quotes like the one above). This update is made possible by the combined efforts of many, in many places, who received gig notices, formatted them, and sent them back to be combined with others. We hope to post the rest of September on Monday.
+
The editor thanks everyone for the cards and letters, and for whatever well-wishes await in the mountain of emails that he can't yet read. A few at a time, we are starting to read them to him (there are over 2,700 there, waiting!)
.
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
.
Check out Larry Wines’ September column in FolkWorks. It’s available free online at www.folkworks.org/content/viewcategorycur/89 and it’s a time of remembrances for the late musicians MIKE SEEGER and DAVID CARRADINE, and for WOODY GUTHRIE’S guitar.

ACOUSTIC AMERICANA
MUSIC GUIDE
.
SEPTEMBER 22 through 28, 2009 EDITION
.
.
LOTS of music continues at the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona: check our special sections at the beginning of each day’s listings. Plus (as always) there’s an almost incomprehensible number and variety of live acoustic performances all across the L.A. region. And we tell you about all those acoustic festivals, everywhere. AND radio shows featuring live performances and interviews with acoustic musicians that are available on the web. So go enjoy some wonderful live acoustic music!
.
September’s live acoustic performances continue, at concert halls, coffeehouses, clubs, bars, parks, band shells, the L.A. County Fair, and theaters and amphitheaters indoors and out, and all of it awaits you right here at
http://acousticamericana.blogspot.com
.
(Yes, you can give your friends the url, even if it reveals they don’t need to call you anymore to learn what’s happening.)
.
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
.
WELCOME!
Without question, the Los Angeles region now has the greatest number of live acoustic performances of anyplace in America, and possibly in the world. Much of it is simply WONDERFUL, including club and coffeehouse gigs, performing arts center and theater concerts, indoor and outdoor shows, and a steady parade of festivals that include a healthy acoustic music presence. In addition, for those planning travel and our readers elsewhere, the Guide always includes a vast variety of acoustic music festivals all over the planet. And unique to the Guide, descriptions are included in our extensive listings, rather than simple calendar listings where you need to recognize a performer’s name to know the genre of acoustic music. (Lots of places tell you who, where, and when. We tell you that, plus the all-important “what.”) Yep, we “Guide” you through the live acoustic music scene.
+
RECURRING EVENTS include residencies, series, showcases, and open mics, and all these are numerous in the Southern California acoustic music universe. We generally add them to the Guide’s calendar one week at a time, as dates approach, because there are so many of them AND because it gives us a chance to learn who is playing.
+
RADIO SHOWS that regularly feature live acoustic performances are included, provided there is a way to hear them in Los Angeles. With precious few exceptions, hearing these in L.A. requires internet listening, and we give you the necessary URLs.
+
GETTING YOUR GIG LISTED: We welcome your feedback, and news of your acoustic Americana and acoustic renaissance music shows (send us gig notices in our format, please; see any listed show for an example) please DON’T expect us to re-type info that you have locked into a jpg – send us plain text, so we can work with it! Send to us at tiedtothetracks@hotmail.com.

WHERE TO FIND WHAT WE DO…

WE’RE ON NO DEPRESSION as a new presence, and enjoying that site. Find us there at http://community.nodepression.com/profile/TiedtotheTracks
+
WE’RE IN FOLKWORKS with the latest edition of the “Somewhere Out There” column, available online at www.folkworks.org/content/viewcategorycur/89. We contribute occasional reviews or feature stories to FolkWorks. You can read the work of many good writers there, and you can sign-up for a free FolkWorks e-newsletter, too, all at www.FolkWorks.org
+
News of the syndicated “Tied to the Tracks” radio show is happening faster than we can report it. But we will, soon!
+
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
+
COMMUNICATE WITH US about anything related to the Acoustic Americana Music Guide and / or the Acoustic Americana Music News, at tiedtothetracks@hotmail.com.
+
Yes, we get HUNDREDS of emails every week, so please give us as much advance notice as possible for your event!
+
PLEASE DON’T send us anything through myspace email. It’s esoteric, it cannot be auto-forwarded into a “real” email account, and we just can’t keep up with it. (Myspace “friends” are great, and we DO welcome you there!) We don’t update the Myspace site very often anymore. It’s really just an archive of old news at www.myspace.com/laacoustic

Wed & Thu, Sep 23 & 24:
6:30, 7:30, 8:30, & 9:30 pm MARIACHI DIVAS play four shows on the Plaza de las Americas Stage. If you can get to the fair either of these nights, see this show. Founded and directed by trumpet player Cindy Shea, the all female Mariachi Divas are continuously making big waves on the L.A. music scene. Although the mariachi tradition is for women to front a masculine mariachi band, Cindy’s inspiration for the group was to create something different-a mariachi band that featured only female musicians. In addition, Mariachi Divas is a unique, multi-cultural ensemble representing the true flavor of Los Angeles, and over the years has been represented by women of Mexican, Cuban, Argentinean, Columbian, Puerto Rican, Japanese, Honduran, Swiss, Peruvian, and Anglo descent. Wed, Sep 23:
6, 7, 8 & 9 pm THE ANSWER plays the Pepper Street Stage as part of the fair’s La Verne Day celebration. They are billed as “an exciting classic rock reproducer fusing the sounds and influences from The Beatles to Tom Jones, from modern rockin’ swing to country line dancing, and classic disco to salsa shaking,” and if all that incongruity isn’t enough for you, try the extreme hyperbole as their PR continues, “Their uncanny reproduction of all that’s good in classic rock today sets them far above all of the competition. Collectively, The Answer is the most dynamic, talented, and professional act available today. There is no substitution for talent, so it’s no wonder that this band is Southern California’s premiere classic rock experience. With such a wide variety of music and exciting stage antics, the band is truly ‘The Answer to classic rock…and more!’ Either somebody was writing on overtime, or somebody walks on water. We will break up into groups and work on many styles, genres and topics. You will find it challenging and exhilarating. Wed, Sep 23:
8 pm BILL BURNETT plus THE BOHEMIAN SOUL RUSTLERS transform the décor and mood, for the night, of the venue named in FolkWorks as L.A.’s best intimate acoustic listening room venue - The Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N Lake Av, Altadena; reserv 626-398-7917; info www.coffeegallery.com. Venue impresario Bob Stane says, “Both acts are well proven winners. You will be amazed.” The Guide agrees.
+
Yep, the venue gets a makeover, as these acts turn The Coffee Gallery Backstage into “The Now and Then Cafe.” Bill Burnett, says Bob Stane, “is a world-class songwriting treasure with a unique wit and point of view and a voice that the angels envy. His songs have been performed by Bette Midler (who called on Bill to craft an opening number for her new Vegas act), and by Patti Lupone, Tim Curry, Dean Stevens, Pebbles Flintstone, Bamm Bamm Rubble, Casper the Friendly Ghost, and others, on and off screen.
+
Tonight, he's meeting the duo who has, in a few short months, become the most popular opening act the venue has introduced in many years. Those irrepressible hipsters THE BOHEMIAN SOUL RUSTLERS.
+
Together they will convert the familiar confines of Backstage at the Coffee Gallery into The Now and Then Café -- a place where the forces of avante folk, past present and future, meet and try to change the world again through song. Expect a great creative blend of music.
+
Bob Stane adds, “We have sneaked the Bohemian Soul Rustlers into a few shows, without reporting their booking, and they are just a bit of wonderful. With several stints on our stage, they delight with song and comedy. You will be on your feet cheering for an encore. Lots of stuff from the 1960s and a grab bag of fun. Got a beret? Be cool. At the end you will be saying, ‘who are those guys?’ Fun, musical, and just perfect. Remember when that wasn't a ridiculous concept? Remember when you believed that a raised voice and a willing heart could actually help promote peace, love and understanding? Well you were right. Come on down to the show and we'll prove it together.” Tix $15.

"...recalls the cabaret spirit of Leonard Cohen or Tom Waits with a modern melancholia that is akin to Iron & Wine". - Commercial Appeal, Memphis. "This isn´t your mom and pop folk duo with acoustic guitars – it’s an electric guitar partnered up with and angry and lonely Eastern European accordion." - Dave Stobbe, Rocky Mountain Banff.

CALJAS ARTISTS WEEKLY JAZZ PERFORMANCE NIGHT at Hip Kitty Jazz / Fondue, 502 W First St (in the Packing House complex), Claremont 91711; www.hipkittyjazz.com; 909-447-6700. It’s a new venue, said to be beautiful, serving food, beer & wine, 25 mins E of Pasadena off the 210 Fwy. The venue is part of the newly-renovated Claremont Packing House. Proprietress Nancy Tessier’s father, Refugio "Coco" Lopez, plays alto, and she wanted her club to feature an array of jazz singers. This led to a fortuitous connection with Dale Boatman, founder and president of the California Jazz Arts Society. CalJAS is a powerful force in bringing some of the best jazz artists in Southern California, especially singers, to restaurants, clubs and other performance spaces in eastern Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire, an area that previously had relatively few opportunities for jazz musicians to perform.

“SAN PEDRO SHANTY SING” at the Whale and Ale, 327 W 7th St, San Pedro 90731; 310-832-0363; www.whaleandale.com. Audrey Coleman wrote in FolkWorks, “If you arrive at the official start time, you'll find a chair at the table and friendly people who will let you look at their shanty books so you can sing along. No singing background required. Many of the twenty or so shanty fans who gather around the long wooden dinner table in the restaurant's cozy upstairs meeting room are volunteers with the Los Angeles Maritime Institute. They sail ‘tall ship’ sail boats for youth training programs run by the Institute. For them, learning the songs that powered the labor on the 19th century clipper ships has become an extension of learning to sail the ships themselves. Added attractions are Alan's pennywhistle and concertina, Jeff's banjo, Kim's collection of flutes, and Dustin and Lindsay's robust baritone voices. When the table fills up, more chairs are set up around the room. And the Guinness flows freely till about 10:30 pm.” Venue is celebrated in the Yahoo! From the Vancouver Island MusicFest to the Kerrville Folk Festival, from the Kennedy Center in D.C. to St. Paul's Cathedral in London and the Spandau Theatre in Berlin, Germany, audiences praise their sound. You’ve heard their music on radio’s “Tied to the Tracks.”

This duo of JOE SCOTT & HANNAH ALKIRE have combined their musical talents to create an exciting acoustic renaissance sound. Joe plays an instrument he invented: the double-neck guitjo, a custom acoustic guitar with two necks, built exclusively for him. This one-of-a-kind instrument has incredible range and tonal qualities, sounding at times like a piano, dulcimer or beautiful harp. Combine that with Hannah's stunning tone and impeccable cello-playing, and you have the ingredients for some very moving music. Swallow Hill Music Association says, "...an evening of brilliant instrumentality."

It’s been an amazing week of Celtic music in L.A., and it continues unabated tonight.
+
Irish flute and whistle wizard BRIAN FINNEGAN and Grammy Award-winning guitarist WILLIAM COULTER are both veterans of the traditional music world. Brian spent the last 12 years touring and recording with the legendary Anglo-Irish band Flook, who won the Best Group at the BBC Folk Awards in 2006. William has been exploring traditional music for over 20 years and has performed with some of the best musicians on both sides of the Atlantic. He won a Grammy in 2004 for his solo guitar contribution to "Henry Mancini: Pink Guitar."
+
Scotland on Sunday calls Brian Finnegan “a thrilling talent, marvelous technical dexterity, bold musical imagination and urgent tone combining in playing of breathtaking suppleness and delicacy.” Meanwhile, ' Mike Meyer, KKUP-FM , cites “William's advanced sense of guitar melody, texture and resonance makes him one of the best ever from the Bay Area.'
+
Brian and William met at the Boxwood flute camp in Nova Scotia during the summer of 2008, where both were teaching. A concert was in the works and the lads enjoyed playing together so much they talked about the possibility of touring as a duo. When Flook disbanded amicably at the end of 2008, the time seemed right for Brian and Bill to join forces. These two virtuosos play original and traditional tunes with masterful technique and fluidity. Their dynamic energy and artistry is an experience not to be missed. More at www.finnegancoulter.com/. Mark sometimes hosts folk and acoustic renaissance artists in-studio for all-acoustic performance-interviews. He says, “The focus is on contemporary and traditional folk, singer-songwriters and local artists, but a little of anything and everything might creep-in. Whether it's Celtic, bluegrass, world music or even rock or blues, as long as it's got beautiful harmonies and melodies you might here it here on a Saturday afternoon.” More info, playlists, and archived performance-interviews at www.acoustic-harmony.com.

Sat, Sep 26; Saturdays, on web radio:
3-5 pm (Pacific) “A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION” always features live performances and skits and stories with host GARRISON KEILLOR, a regular cast of recording artists, and guests, whether broadcasting from various live venues across America, or from its home base in Minnesota. This initial “live” broadcast tiume each weekend is standard everywhere, though repeat times vary by station. In L.A., the show is broadcast on KPCC 89.3 FM, and repeats Saturday night, 6-8 pm and Sunday Noon-2 pm. But if you’re in L.A., it’s much better to find a web simulcast from somewhere; that’s because KPCC has no other music shows and they do not know how to control the levels for music performances, causing frequent peaking and signal cut-out.

Sat, Sep 26:
7 pm CLAUDIA RUSSELL & THE FOLK UNLIMITED ORCHESTRA at the venue named in FolkWorks as L.A.’s best intimate acoustic listening room venue - The Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N Lake Av, Altadena; reserv 626-398-7917; info www.coffeegallery.com. They “traverse the vast American musical landscape, stopping at wondrous landmarks along the way—from the Smoky Mountains to Smokey Robinson. Lesser singers might stumble, or sound fake and uninspired. But Russell and her band possess an uncanny ability to get behind each song and make it their own.” – Mike Rossney, Coat to Coast Arts, Sargentsville ME.
+
Claudia Russell has performed live on radio’s “Tied to the Tracks,” where she proved her prowess as a soulful singer and talented songwriter (think Dolly Parton meets Aretha Franklin). She weaves folk, blues, rock, country and traditional music into an eclectic sound that is all her own. Claudia is a two-time Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk finalist and was named by Boston Folk Radio station WUMB as 2000's New Artist of the Year. She'll be playing with her husband Bruce Kaplan on mandolin and guitar, Mark Petrella on upright bass and Carl Byron on keyboards and accordion. Sing Out magazine says “Claudia Russell is a great live performer and this showcase proves that. Her band -- let’s just say they’re hot. Connect them to the power grid and they’d light up a medium-sized town. Live Band Tonight is as musically solid as they come and in the world of obligatory live CDs, it shines. – Rich Warren, Sing Out, Fall 2007.
+
Venue impresario Bob Stane says, “Claudia is a wit with bubbling, driving personality and a delight to behold both as a singer and as a stage star. She is the real, complete thing and a steal at this price.” More at www.claudiarussell.com. Tix, $18.

(949) 842-2227. (One of two venues used by the series.)
+
From the Vancouver Island MusicFest to the Kerrville Folk Festival, from the Kennedy Center in D.C. to St. Paul's Cathedral in London and the Spandau Theatre in Berlin, Germany, audiences praise their sound. You’ve heard their music on radio’s “Tied to the Tracks.”
+

8 pm BRIAN FINNEGAN & WILLIAM COULTER play Boulevard Music, 4316 Sepulveda Bl, Culver City; www.boulevardmusic.com; 310-398-2583. Venue’s web site has a helpful local dining guide.
+
Evan's accomplishments are legendary among other artists of the plucked string: The late Chet Atkins called him "one of the few great musicians of our time." He’s performed live on radio’s “Tied to the Tracks,” where he dazzled the listening audience. He is a member of the RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE, and whenever they play, popular demand requires that EVAN J. MARSHALL plays a solo set. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest mandolin virtuosos ever, and his fiddle playing is dazzling. He possesses an uncanny duo-style solo mandolin technique that the Raleigh-Durham Independent called "superhuman," the Washington Post labeled "truly dazzling," and the Fresno Bee called "mind-boggling." Besides his "obvious virtuosity" (Pasadena Star News), he has "in color and texture . . . a stunning mastery of interpretation" (St. Paul Pioneer Press). Performing by himself, he creates the sound of a virtuoso mandolin ensemble, and takes his audience with him into a fascinating and unique musical world. Don Stiernberg says he's "the Michael Jordan of the mandolin."
+
plus, THE BOHEMIAN SOUL RUSTLERS Bob Stane adds, “We have sneaked the Bohemian Soul Rustlers into a few shows, without reporting their booking, and they are just a bit of wonderful. Come on down to the show and we'll prove it together.” Matinee show, tix, $15.

7 pm WILL RYAN & THE CACTUS COUNTY COWBOYS plus ROOBY MAGOO at the venue named in FolkWorks as L.A.’s best intimate acoustic listening room venue - The Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N Lake Av, Altadena; reserv 626-398-7917; info www.coffeegallery.com.
+
Direct from Cactus County, it’s “The King of the Radio Cowboys” and “The Band that Won the West!.” They’ve been called, “The Marx Brothers meet the Sons of the Pioneers, with sidekicks.”
+
Will Ryan is joined by funny and sly WESTY WESTHOFEN and JOHN “PRESTO” REYNOLDS, a comic genius and guitar virtuoso renowned in old time music circles. Venue impresario Bob Stane calls them,.”So funny, so musical and intelligently understated.”
+
Lead singer and guitarist WILL RYAN is the croonin’ Westerner who not only has written hundreds of cowboy songs for acts like the Okay Corral Chorale, the Oslo Mariachis and Clark Burroughs, but for a slew of imaginary characters, as well! Among them: Donald Duck, Tigger, the Muppets, Elmo Aardvark, Garfield the Cat, The Grinch and Winnie the Pooh (who actually lives under the name of Saunders). Will’s non-cowboy songs have also been recorded by the likes of the Pointer Sisters, Patti LaBelle, Joanie Sommers and Diane Schurr.
+
In the Old Days, Will opened for such folks as Rick Nelson, Bob Gibson, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Pure Prairie League and Lionel Hampton. Then Will became a Cineloquist, which is what he calls an Actor who does a lot of Voices. Soon he was heard in hundreds of animated television shows and in such popular feature films as “The Little Mermaid”, “Looney Tunes: Back in Action!” and “The Land before Time”.
+
WESTY WESTHOFEN (on bass, tuba and euphonium) joins JOHN “PRESTO” REYNOLDS (on guitar, banjo and jazzbo) as Will’s harmonious sidekicks and Instrumental Wizards. You may recall them as the front men of the Palm Springs Yacht Club, when they were a perennial opening act for the Smothers Brothers, toured the nation with Julie Andrews and made television appearances with Steve Allen.
+
Westy and Presto are the Originators and Principal Perpetrators of the musical art form known as BI-LABIAL FRICITATION. Their demonstrations of this arcane practice are a show-stopping delight. In fact, for that alone you would be well-advised to leave the hum-drum comfort of your all-too-familiar home and head over to this rare Coffee Gallery Backstage performance to be edified, stupefied, stultified and – yes, certifiably flabbergasted! Bob Stane says: “you will laugh and be amazed by their sounds and antics. Great comedy.” Oh, Will’s got a couple of RIAA Gold Records. but here’s the Big News: The band’s first Audible Records CD, “Rhythm Rides the Range!” has just gone Tin! WAHOO!
+
Plus: ROOBY MAGOO...“The Queen of Science Fiction Country Music.” From the moment Rooby sets foot on the stage, you know you’re dealing with a Star. Either that, or a sweet-sounding singer of astonishing range and a mighty fascinating case of Multiple Personality Disorder! Her command of any situation – be it a humble country tune or a dramatic first-hand account of an alien abduction – is always awe-inspiring! Rooby, who bears a striking resemblance to actress Diane Michelle, can be heard impersonating off-beat characters on such television shows as The Simpsons, Superman, Batman, The West Wing, Pinky & the Brain and the upcoming series Waffles: Gentleman Burglar. For Walt Disney Productions, she’s provided Daisy Duck’s singing voice since the Clinton administration. This is a rare chance to hear Rooby in person before she too, like Klum before her, is permanently abducted by aliens,

8 pm CLOSING NIGHT for “CYMBELINE,” Shakespeare’s romantic tale, at the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum, 1419 N Topanga Canyon Bl, Topanga, midway between Pacific Coast Highway and the Ventura (101) Freeway; www.theatricum.com; 310-455-3723. Shakespeare's gripping tale is a timeless political thriller about one of the most notorious political assassinations in history. It examines the delicate balance between liberty and government order. A group of self-styled guardians of the Roman Republic, led by Brutus and Cassius, kill the man they fear may declare himself both god and king. Can such radical and brutal action be justified - and how do men of intelligence and scruple live with the consequences? (Runs Jun 6 through Sep 26, in repertory with several other productions; check with venue for exact schedule.)
+
Cymbeline - Fidelity and loyalty triumph over treachery to assure that love will prevail in one of Shakespeare's most complex plays, the romantic Cymbeline. Banished from England for secretly marrying the princess, Posthumus bets the sly Iachimo that no man could ever seduce his faithful wife Imogen. When Iachimo sets off to test this claim, a riotous chain of tragic and comic events ensues.
+
Closing day, same venue, for

The Miser - Moliere's social satire, a comic ale with a tragic heart about a man whose love for his money is greater than his love for his children. When an old widower decides to marry off his children against their will, he sets the entire family scheming to steal his fortune. With forbidden romance in the air and the family treasure buried in the backyard, it's a race to see who will come out on top.

+
They have performed with numerous symphony orchestras across the country, to great acclaim. The Riders, with mandolin phenom EVAN MARSHALL (aka “Relaxin' Jackson”), are not simply included in FolkWorks magazine’s “Best of 2008 / Top Ten” feature, they are picked as THE best in the “Top Ten Live Acoustic Bands in L.A. in 2008: #1 - Riders of the Purple Sage. That notation reads, “They’re amazing and transcend their genre, as they prove when they perform with symphony orchestras. Endorsed by the widow of band founder Foy Willing, and with mandolin wizard Evan Marshall now solidly a member, they are the best acoustic band in L.A., period.” In addition, Evan Marshall is named in that same FolkWorks feature among the “Best of 2008 / Top Ten” live instrumentalists in L.A.
+
The Riders of the Purple Sage have enjoyed L.A.’s most successful monthly residency, routinely selling-out six weeks in advance. They are one of, if not "the" most historical Western band in the world, having starred in films and radio from pre-war days to the present. Today's Riders, under the leadership of CODY BRYANT, put on a show rich with old and new music. Band members are instrumental virtuosos, including five-string banjo, hot lead guitar, twin fiddles, steel guitar, upright bass, drums/percussion, steel guitar, and consummate vocals. While keeping alive the tradition of the original Riders' sound and enjoying the endorsement of SHARON WILLING, widow of band founder FOY WILLING and author of the book, “No One to Cry To,” the band continues to write and perform new material that carries on and builds upon their signature style. Adding a strong swing influence (ala Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys), their performances appeal to listeners and dancers of all ages.
+
Larry Wines wrote of one performance that they were “ethereal” and “orchestral,” and indeed, they often perform with symphony orchestras. Larry added in that review, “They exceeded musicianship. They exceeded their genre.” Coffee Gallery Backstage impresario Bob Stane adds, “You owe it to yourself to see this most amazing and amusing exhibit. Forget what you think you like and don’t like. See The Riders Of The Purple Sage.”

Yes, it’s true -
There are more ACOUSTIC AMERICANA / ACOUSTIC RENAISSANCE music performances EVERY week in the Los Angeles area than the COMBINED TOTAL of ALL OTHER KINDS OF MUSIC!
+
(And that doesn’t even take into account the dozens of electric Americana shows!)
+
If you have trouble believing that assertion, then print this out and see how many pages you’ll need just for the events for the days covered in this edition!
+
Check it yourself: take any edition of the L.A. Times Calendar Section and any edition of the LA Weekly, count-up all the live music shows (you won’t even need to subtract-out the acoustic shows in those two publications, since they hardly list any, anyway) and add them up. THEN, count the number of live acoustic music performances for the same days in the Acoustic Americana Music Guide. We have yet to find a week when the TOTAL of all those other genres of music performances equals the number of live performances of acoustic music in the L.A. area! (Even though you hear very little music from the acoustic genres on the radio here, or read about it in the biggest newspapers, it seems people DO want acoustic music and they will find and support it anyway!
