Tonight at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena is the first of two chances, locally, to catch legendary folk songwriter MICHAEL SMITH. Show at 8 pm, reservations highly recommended (details and write-up are in the last edition). Other chance? He plays the Caltech Folk Music Society series Saturday at 8 pm. This guy is really somethin' and highly recommended.

If you need a free show tonight, there's a strong lineup of commercially-successful performing songwriters at JC Hykes' weekly Songwriter Serenade at Matt Denny's Ale House in Arcadia, 7-9 pm.
