The Friday Music Scene...

The three-day, 10th annual "SUMMERGRASS SAN DIEGO BLUEGRASS MUSIC FESTIVAL" gets underway at the 40-acre Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum in Vista.
.
TONIGHT, CLOSER TO L.A.:

5:30 pm LISA HALEY & THE ZYDEKATS play the summer-long "SAWDUST FESTIVAL" in Laguna Beach.

There's a FREE two-parter at the Levitt Pavilion in Memorial Park, Pasadena:

First part:
6-7:30 pm PHOEBE BRIDGERS plays the "Luckman World Music Stage" with her original acoustic singer-songwriter material as part of the L.A. High School of the Arts special night, before the

Second part:
8 pm show with DAVID WAX MUSEUM on the main stage bandshell. They're advertised as "Americana - Mexican - folk - indie."

Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a picnic (no alcohol allowed). Good food available from vendors, too (try the bbq chicken sandwich).

6-9 pm in Temecula brings WHEN PIGS FLY, playing the FREE "Hot Summer Nights" series.

6:30 pm THE FRONT PORCH BAND plays a FREE show at the L.A. Farmer's Market, 3rd and Fairfax.

7 pm DOUG MacLEOD and DENNY CROY bring first-rate acoustic blues to Lucille's BBQ in Long Beach.

8 pm BARRY KEENAN, SANDY ROSS, and RASPIN share a night of accomplished singer-songwriters at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena. Tix, $15.

8 pm SABRINA & THE SNAKE CHARMERS, with BOBBY BLUEHOUSE opening, play the Arcadia Blues Club.

The most recent full edition was August 10 and it's still available right here on the same site. It lists events clear past Mayan Calendar Doomsday, but a whoooole lot more will be added in the next edition. So stay tuned.

  1. What we do without you? I'm exhausted after a week of long hours so it is out of the question to go anywhere tonight. But there you are with things that are on television! I may not stay awake for all of it, but I'm making a date with my new flatscreen.

  3. Just watched some Rachel Maddow b4 going to Levitt. She showed Mittens and Ryan the running mate at USS Wisconsin battleship when they announced. Pointed out neither one was ever in military despite being of correct ages when US was at war. Looks like a Bush rerun with militarist politicians who never wore the uniform. Scares me plenty. Know you like politics and irony.
