Ticket giveaway details are below. First, we'll tell you about the acclaimed performer and the show.
+
He's renowned for delivering authentic and original Irish music with multi-instrumental prowess and a marvelous, signature singing voice. He hosts the official City of Los Angeles' St. Patrick's Day Celebration Concert each year. Venue impresario Bob Stane calls him, "The real deal from Dublin."
+
KEN O'MALLEY spends plenty of time crafting each of his specially-themed shows, performing between six and ten a year in L.A., each one different.
+
More specifically, Ken loves bringing them to one of his favorite places to perform, the intimate environs of the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena. It's "the best intimate acoustic music venue in L.A., " says the Guide's editor, recognizing it year-after-year in annual "Top Ten" awards in another music publication.
+
Sunday's themed show is "A Tribute to the Women of Ireland." KEN O'MALLEY explores this theme annually, to great approval and appreciation of audiences. Of course, it's always timed close to Mother's Day.
+
In this show, Ken draws from the quiet strength of his own mother, who raised seven children in Ireland "while keeping organized a household of nine members." The theme -- in song and storytelling -- extends to "famous and infamous Irish women who left their mark on history." Expect a female pirate ship captain to be included.
+
Indeed, this show pays tribute to many extraordinary women, some unknown, through Ken's masterfully engaging stories and songs.
+
It's a true testament to the strong women of Ireland, steering paths through a male-dominated society, often maintaining loyalty to family and connection with the land. Attend this performance and you'll learn that many, such as Grace O’Malley, didn't simply make a place for themselves in a man's world, but actually became bold leaders of men.
+
Whether singing a passionate ballad, playing a solo on the mandolin or guitar, or explaining the gloriously sad history of Erin, the Gaelic name for his homeland, Ken O’Malley is all-in, wide open to the world, and as true as an arrow’s flight.
+
Ken’s fine tenor voice would carry him through a show a cappella, but he backs himself beautifully on guitar and mandolin.
+
And this exceeds the typical concert. He does these themed shows in the style of VH-1/Palladia TV's "Storytellers," with wonderful wit and good humor that draws you in and carries you on the journey, imparting deeper meaning and understanding you'd never get from the lyrics alone.
+
From the poignant and too-often sad history of Ireland, he brings the Emerald Isle in its natural beauty, and in the beauty of song, both traditional and original. The impact is no less than the big Irish song-and-dance troupes on those PBS specials. KEN O'MALLEY fills a room with irresistible joy.
+
With songs in both English and Irish Gaelic, a Ken O'Malley performance is suitable for all ages and has something for everyone. As one longtime fan says, “the songs Ken sings touch all of us, Irish or not, to the very core of the human heart."
