The signature sound of the Gothard Sisters’ recording (their new album "Story Girl" was awarded "Album of the Year 2011" by Celtic Radio) blends the freedom and lyricism of traditional folk forms with the discipline gained from years of training as classical musicians and the competitive world of Irish dance.

Thu, Oct 17, in , Altadena:
8 pm SALTY SUITES, that superb young rootsy string band, plus young guitar wiz opening act ALEX FINAZZO, play the Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N Lake Av, Altadena 92675; reservations (by phone only) at 626-798-6236.
+
The Salty Suites, with opening act Alex Finazzo, brings a whole passel of young acoustic critters who love to play and sing. The Salty Suites -- Chuck Hailes, Chelsea Williams and Scott Gates – r+eturn to the scene of the crime to play hard, sing sweet and rock long (but completely acoustically).

Scott Gates is as close to a musical prodigy on the mandolin as you will ever meet, He now plays guitar, too. Having performed all over the country and with artists as varied as John McEuen, Nathan McEuen, Kenny Loggins, Steve Martin, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and a virtual who's-who of the bluegrass world, Scott is writing music on his own and brings original tunes to you. Scott has appeared on the “Ellen Show” with Steve Martin, recorded with Kenny Loggins on his family album, was featured on the Cable TV show “Justified” with band mate Chuck and toured the US with Nathan McEuen.
+
Chuck Hailes is one of the top bass players in the country, schooled in classical and jazz bass playing and techniques. Chuck writes his own music and has teamed with Scott to create new musical gems. With his background in bluegrass music and degree in the Upright Bass, Chuck also sings.
+
Chelsea Williams is L.A.’s most successful busker, and has sang in the shower on a nationally-aired Chevy commercial. She just returned from Paris and will have tales to tell. She has been writing and performing her own music since she was 13 years old, taking the stage on her own by the age of 17, performing at clubs and coffee shops. Some of her early songs are still hits with her fans, and she has continued to develop as a writer, penning nearly 100 original songs to date. Chelsea currently makes her living by playing on the street for tips and selling a home-made demo, having sold MANY thousands of CDs, one-by-one, simply on her own on the street (ask her for the latest count; it’s astonishing). Her magnetic presence draws them in and her songs set the hook. More at www.saltysuites.com
+
Opening for the Suites Is their good friend Alex Finazzo. Since he began performing at age 16, Alex has become a fixture in the acoustic music scene of Southern California. Playing in groups that include the Blue Creek Band, Scott Gates Band, Soledad Mountain Band, and more. He has performed at the region's largest bluegrass festivals and consistently draws audiences with his dynamic and powerful flat-picking.
