It began Sunday with “YOUTH POWER-UP DAY,” a free festival. California Plaza comes alive with performances by student ensembles, presentations about music education and youth development, and a jam session with local youth hosted by KEVIN EUBANKS, former leader of the “Tonight Show” band. Presented by Berklee College of Music and A Place Called Home, as part of the 2014 Berklee City Music Network Conference.

“ENCUENTRO 2014” is the the Los Angeles Theatre Center’s annual festival, in association with the “Latina/o Theatre Commons,” and it’s a national theatre festival from October 12 through November 10. This groundbreaking month-long event is the first theatre festival in the US to bring together more than 150 artists and 19 theatre companies from across the country to present 17 works that explore the multi-faceted Latina/o experience — from Pulitzer Prize-winning works and violence at the border, to immigration and the complexities of romantic relationships.

The 133 band members have toured and collaborated with some of the biggest names in rock. Similar in sound to the band The Traveling Wilburys, they are comprised of a group of highly talented yet diverse singers and songwriters. 133 is Steve Wood, Beth Wood, Jason Feddy, Nick Hernandez, Poul Pedersen, Bob Hawkins, Drew Hester and Alan Deremo.

These Laguna Beach music legends have legions of loyal fans on their own, and came together recently as a band to write and record an album of original songs, which is now complete.
+
The album by 133 (which is in the final stages of production) is not only an incredible collection of songs produced by Steve Wood, it is also the soundtrack for an upcoming feature length documentary “133 The Road to Laguna”, currently in production. The film follows the 133 band as they write and record the songs for the album, and also reveals compelling personal stories of triumphs and heartbreaks that come with life as a working musician.
