TISA ADAMSON is a music and art prodigy born from Greek and Mexican parents and is a native of Southern California. She has been playing music since she was 8 years old. In her early years she opened for ROMEO VOID, X, MOTELS, FEAR, and others. She later went on to play as part of a duo with CHE ZURO for 15 years. Recently she has been writing, singing and performing with local musicians and friends BRIE DARLING and RANDY MITCHEL. She will be performing songs from her recently released CD, “Fingers”.

The South Pasadena Arts Council (SPARC), as part of the next South Pasadena Arts Crawl, presents an exhibition in the SPARC Gallery of the work of DIANE MEYER. As part of the Arts Crawl, the event presents this special concert, featuring local singer-songwriter TISA ADAMSON and her musical friends.
+
DIANE MEYER is an Assistant Professor of Photography at Loyola Marymount University and an artist who works within various photographic genres to explore the physical, social and psychological qualities that make up various locations. Her work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions at AIR Gallery, NYC; the 18th Street Arts Center, Santa Monica; the Society for Contemporary Photography, Kansas City and in various national and international group shows.

The exhibition at the SPARC Gallery features work she created while an artist-in-residence in Berlin, where she took pictures of the city and its suburbs, tracing the path of the Berlin Wall in places where only hints of its existence remained. Fascinated by the loaded psychology of these sites and the incomplete ways in which we remember them, she pixilated parts of her original photographs and overlayed them with delicate multi-hued embroidery. Meyers meticulous stitching pierces the photograph as it simultaneously heals and conceals the historic fabric to which it alludes.

The Santa Barbara French Festival celebrates Bastille Day and all the things that make French cultural history so rich. Two days of delicious wine and food- including mimosas, crepes, and decadent pastries- as well as music, dance, crafts, and, of course, the infamous Poodles & Pals Parade! A community event not to be missed, it's a Dance Festival, a Music Festival, an Arts & Crafts Festival and a Food Festival- all in one place! It is also a great way to support Center Stage Theater and Speaking of Stories, two wonderful Santa Barbara arts organizations.

For two days, Santa Barbara celebrates its reputation as “the American Riviera,” as the French Festival takes over beautiful Oak Park.

Three stages are filled with dance and music from more than 30 different acts, including performances of the can-can, French Polynesian dancers, African Bellydancing, Burlesque, Tango, and the Femme Fatales Drag Revue. Audience members are encouraged to participate and learn, and every minute of entertainment is all free.

ENTERTAINERS include local favorites, the WEST COAST BALLET and SANTA BARBARA SILVER FOLLIES, along with groups from around California.

SECOND WIND, a 4-piece ensemble comes from Long Beach, playing French music from the ’30s to modern, with a touch of Cajun and Quebecois.

Los Angeles performer JEAN-PIERRE TIBBI brings classic French songs.

DJANGOSCHMANGO takes you on a journey to a Paris nightclub of the ’30s with their tribute to the great Django Reinhardt.

THE ACCORDION INTERNATIONAL MUSIC SOCIETY OF SANTA BARBARA will coordinate the third stage, dedicated to exclusively accordion performances. Fabulous accordion tunes fill the air, complete with a dance floor for those that want to take advantage and let the music move them.

The festival is teaming with French Bulldog Rescue to expand their “infamous” Poodles and Pals Parade. For years this great tradition as concluded the Festival on Sunday evening; this year it happens at the end of the day on both Saturday and Sunday, at 6 pm. The fun begins both days with a procession through the park, as Napoleon leads the promenade to the stage.

The entertainment is only part of what the French Festival has to offer – more than 60 booths offer everything from crepes and delicious French pastries to face painting and French tablecloths. Grab a mimosa as you peruse beautiful paintings and photography. Enjoy a crepe or Le Hot Dog from Pacific Crepes while shopping for your French Festival t-shirt and beret. Take a moment for a quick massage before you settle in for the next performance with a sinfully delicious croissant from Normandie Bakery, beignets or Cajun shrimp and French beer. Browse through jewelry and fashion, photographs and artwork, and more. You can try your hand at Petanque, a French lawn bowling game. For his first recording for Sony Classical, “Appalachia Waltz, ” GRAMMY-winning violinist MARK O'CONNOR collaborated with fellow GRAMMY winners YO-YO MA and EDGAR MEYER. The album gained O'Connor worldwide recognition as a leading proponent of a new American musical idiom.
+
His successful follow-up release, “Appalachian Journey, ” received a GRAMMY for “Best Classical Crossover Album.” After an award-winning recording career in Nashville appearing on more than 500 albums, several of which are GRAMMY winners, including his own “New Nashville Cats, ” O'Connor has immersed himself into perpetuating American classical music. His first full-length orchestral score, "Fiddle Concerto, " has become the most-performed modern violin concerto composed in the last 50 years.

In 2009, he developed the “O'Connor Method” for violin and strings, which takes an American classical approach to modern violin playing, offering a technical foundation using a diverse range of traditional American string repertoire. The “O'Connor Method Camp” will be held for the first time in New York this August. O'Connor's "Americana Symphony, " recorded by MARIN ALSOP AND THE BALTIMORE SYMPHONY, had a successful multimedia performance earlier in June with the NATIONAL REPERTORY ORCHESTRA in Breckenridge, Colorado.

O'Connor's upcoming release, “Duo, ” a collaboration with his wife, fiddler/violinist MAGGIE O'CONNOR, features American classics arranged for two violins. In the museum’s Clive Davis Theater, Mark O'Connor will engage in an intimate discussion surrounding his music career, moderated by Scott Goldman, Vice President of the GRAMMY Foundation. And yes, the discussion will be followed by a special performance with O'Connor and his wife.
