8 pm DAVE NACHMANOFF plays The Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N Lake Av, Altadena; Reservations (by phone, only, 10 am-10 pm) 626-798-6236.
+
Bob Stane says, "DAVE NACHMANOFF is a dynamic force on any stage. His songs and his performances are brilliant. He tours with Al Stewart with delightful results. He and Al Stewart play off of each other’s personality. Result: Real Show Business. Get him while he takes a short break from the tours. This is an effervescent light in our show business galaxy.
+
"We did something right to get him to perform at The Coffee Gallery Backstage. Claim this night for your own. A night time victory. I have gone to creative lengths to bag him. Maybe even something illegal. Will I go the prison to give you a great night of music and fun? Maybe. You be the judge. Miss me when I go up the river.
+
"Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Dave Nachmanoff saw Al Stewart live for the first time at Royal Albert Hall in London in 1985 and in 2006 came back and performed with him. At the age of ten he played with Libba Cotten (“Freight Train”). He’s shared the stage with Cheryl Wheeler, Steve Forbert, The Pogues, America, Alison Krauss, and many others."

Bob continues, "He’s a vertically challenged five foot two (and no,he doesn’t have blue eyes). He’s that neighbor who always has a friendly wave but doesn’t keep you from dinner. You’ll probably forget about that meal anyway when he starts to tell his stories and sing his well-crafted tunes in a voice like an older Rob Thomas (Matchbox20) but a guitar style that’s more Mark Knopfler or Richard Thompson. And just as versatile, too."

10 pm JANN KLOSE plays WitzEnd, 1717 Lincoln Bl, Venice; 310-305-4792; www.witzendlive.com

First, it's pronounced "YANN CLOSE."
+
"Klose shows he can create diverse new tunes that rival those of such masters as (Tim) Buckley. Jann sings Tim Buckley's parts in the movie, "GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY" (Tribeca Film/Focus World) which will be out on DVD, Sep 17." -- Paul Freeman, San Jose Mercury News.
+
Jann's new album, MOSAIC is now on iTunes and Amazon and Spotify.
+
"MOSAIC" is finding support from a variety of edgy characters, including TIME Magazine Columnist Joel Stein, who pranked Jann in his June 2013 column. This is an artist everyone hears something different in, and an example is the feedback on the song "Make It Better," which got good airplay through last year's election day. The song became a favorite of talk radio from Berkeley, CA Underground to the AM dial in Boston.
+
Three show-offy quotes were registered in just over a week for "Make It Better." Michael McCarty (loveispop) wrote, "Stylistically, his voice and songwriting split the difference between Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen." Meanwhile, Jim Sullivan compared "Make It Better" to the Clash & world music, and Ricky Flake of Biloxi, MS's Sun Herald hears the song as "mid-career Clapton-flavored."
+
Born in Germany, raised in Kenya, South Africa, and Germany, Jann Klose first came to the States as an exchange student in Cleveland. Jann's co-writing songs and performing with Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart, Jeff Buckley), and has shared the stage with Gary Hoey, Renaissance's Annie Haslam, Rusted Root, Vonda Shepard, Pete Seeger, and the late Les Paul. Jann appers on the GRAMMY nominated "Healthy Food For Thought" compilation, MTV CRIBS and movies, "Dead Broke" (Warner Bros.) featuring Paul Sorvino. Writes M MUSIC MUSICIANS' Ken Partridge, "There’s little out of his range."
+
Check out www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzGlG7ZjIMs
+
If you can't make this show, his tour brings him backin after he ranges north to Seattle. Jann plays Sep1 at SOhO Restaurant & Music Club in Santa Barbara; Sep 7 at a hoyse concert in Lake Carmel (San Diego); and Sep 8 with REBECCA LOEBE at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena.
