Sat, Jun 4, on the radio:
6-8 am on "ALIVE & PICKING," MARY KATHRINE ALDIN's show on KPFK 90.7 FM in L.A.: Guests are, according to ART PODELL of the NEW CHRISTY MINSTRELS, "Joe Frazier, Jim Moran and me only. George Grove has been seduced away from us for this show by some group called The Kingston Trio and he'll be recording an album with them while Joe, Jim, and I are having fun at 6 am on Saturday morning. Poor George. We've allowed him to make it up to us by joining us for our next scheduled show in July. I'll be playing some Art and Paul recordings, some Theo Bikel, maybe more if time permits. Since the theme this weeks is the Northeast folk influence back in the sixties, Joe will be playing some Ian and Sylvia, Schooner Fare, and Steve Gillette. Jim's been secretive about his selections but never doubt Professor Jim's ability to zero in on all the connective tissue of any folk era and make any discussion worth the time. Join us if you can, and if you're not a morning person (translate - old), I'll be posting the entire broadcast, hosted by the gracious, charming, knowledgeable Mary Katherine Aldin, on my web site at www.artpodell.com."

Sat, Jun 4, FESTIVAL:
11 am-5 pm th annual “SANTA CLARITA VALLEY BLUES FESTIVAL” is a FREE day of“jam packed fun for all ages,” and “the music goes on all day long,” in Mountain View Park, 28502 Seco Canyon, Santa Clarita 91390.
It's got the BOB MALONE BAND, KELLY'S LOT, WUMBLOOZO, TRIPLE THREAT, SUSAN REY BAND, TONI DODD & SOUTHBOUND BLUES, MICHAEL JOHN & THE BOTTOM LINE, emcee TERESA JAMES, and more. There's a car show, fire truck rides, a kids zone, raffles, vendors, a BBQ, and it's a benefit for the Tom Bolewski Special Needs Trust. One musician observes, “There aren't many opportunities to bring the kids out (especially young ones) to listen to the blues. I know my granddaughter loves to listen to her pop pop play the blues...so this is a great way to enlighten kids to a style of music that isn't as popular with the younger crowd. Spread their wings and give them a taste of some down home music played by real musicians.” More at www.tomsrecovery.com.

Tue, Jun 14; seminar for artists:
10 am-noon “ARTIST ASSET DISCOVERY & DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR,h free with reservation, in the Clive Davis Theater at The GRAMMY Museum, 800 W Olympic Bl, Suite A245, (though you enter from the Figueroa side) in downtown Los Angeles 90015.
This event, covered in a feature story in mid May in the Guide, is described as gground-breaking and informative,h and it's free. The event features the museum's Executive Director Bob Santelli, together with External Affairs Director Tracy Strann, Archivist Bob Pfeifer, leading entertainment attorney Peter Paterno (King, Holmes, Paterno & Berliner, LLP), and Jeff Anthony, Vice President of Iron Mountain Film & Sound Archives, plus Darren Julien, the President/CEO of Julienfs Auctions.
Working as a panel, the distinguished group will outline the process of archiving as well as educate attendees in how to effectively preserve and potentially monetize an artistfs collection. Following the presentation, guests will have the opportunity ask specific questions pertaining to their individual interests and speak one-on-one with each of the panelists.
gMost artists have a storage warehouse, a garage, or an attic full of potentially deteriorating memorabilia that reflects their lifefs work,h says Executive Director Bob Santelli. gAsset discovery and development is critical to its preservation. Our mission is to not only preserve musical history, but assist in facilitating the artistsf legacy for future generations to discover and enjoy.h
There's plenty of info about the museum at www.grammymuseum.org. Reservations are required for the seminar. Contact Tracy Strann, Director, External Affairs, at tstrann@grammymuseum.org or call 213-763-2108.

8 pm WILL RYAN & the CACTUS COUNTY COWBOYS celebrate “National JUNE FORAY Month” at the Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N Lake Av, Altadena 92675; info, www.coffeegallery.com; reservations number (NEW, May 2011) is 626-798-6236.
The Guide is really big on this band. You’ve been hearing WILL RYAN’s voices for years in Oscar-winning animated films and popular cartoons series. Now hear the two-time Gold Record winner join in four-part harmony with his band the Cactus County Cowboys, “a mad-cap mash-up of the Marx Brothers and the Sons of the Pioneers!” Tonight, they’re all here – tuba and bass expert WESTY WESTENHOFER, guitar wizard JOHN “PRESTO” REYNOLDS, banjo-strumming Princess of the West “CHAPARRAL KATIE” CAVERA, and returning to the band from back East, for this performance, the mandolin-strumming wunderkind of the clarinet and tenor sax, “CACTUS CHLOE” FEORANZO. Plus, here because he's on a break from his North and South American tour, the band’s fiddler / symphony conductor “BUCKAROO BENNY” BRYDERN.
Expect “A whole lotta music,” as they introduce, in this show “Cactus County Euphonium, Tuba, Trombone and Bilabial Fricitationizer” plus unscripted zaniness that will make you wonder why everyone doesn’t just pack up their bags and move to Cactus County, wherever it is.
SPECIAL GUESTS is sometime band member, Grammy-winner, and band favorite “OXNARD IAN” WHITCOMB on the Cactus County accordion.
The whole shebang is together tonight to honor the Queen of Cartoons, JUNE “ROCKY THE FLYING SQUIRREL” FORAY, the most famous animation voice artist in the world (Looney Tunes, Mulan, Cinderella, Smurfs, George of the Jungle, Gummi Bears, Fractured Fairytales, Rocky & Bullwinkle, and more).
In addition, a “special surprise guest” is promised, who will join in celebrating “National June Foray Month.” Who could it possibly be? Could it be JUNE FORAY herself? Nothin' up mah sleeve... PRESTO! Yes, June herself will be there, direct from Frostbite Falls! This will surely sell-out, so reserve your seats now. Tickets, $15.

Today is the anniversary of the infamous Watergate Break-In, the 1972 event wherein Nixon White House operatives were caught inside the Democratic National Headquarters in the Watergate complex in Washington, D.C. It took nearly two years of investigative journalism led by the Washington Post's reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, and climactic hearings by the Senate Watergate Committee and the House Impeachment Committee to reveal the scope and magnitude of effort by the White House to circumvent the electoral process, attempt to cover-up other burglaries, and break other federal laws. Finally in 1974, when faced with certain conviction in the pending impeachment trial, Richard Nixon became the only President in US history to resign the office.
