Born and raised in Southern California, Scott Gates began learning piano at the age of three, and mandolin at the age of seven, studying under master mandolinist Evan J. Marshall of Los Angeles for six years. By 13 Scott established his own bluegrass bands (Pacific Ocean Bluegrass; The Scott Gates Band), winning several mandolin and band competitions. Scott performs across the country at many venues and has appeared on radio and television, performing with artists as varied as Kenny Loggins, Steve Martin, Ed Helms, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and a virtual whos who of bluegrass.
+
Chelsea Williams has been writing and performing her own music from the age of thirteen. By the age of 17, she took the stage, on her own, performing first at clubs and coffee houses. While some of her early songs are still hits with her fans, she has continued to develop as a writer penning over 100 original songs to date. Chelsea is also known for making her living by busking -- selling tens of thousands of homemade demos, one by one, simply on her own, on the street. Her magnetic personality drawn in the fans; her songs set the hook.
+
Chuck Hailes brings a background in bluegrass, original musical gems, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Music on the Upright Bass. Chuck Hailes sings and plays in a way that is uniquely his own, is in great demand as a session player, teaches the bass, and takes his expertise directly to young children in the schools, teaching FUNdamentals of Music and Movement.
+
As close to a house band as the Coffee Gallery has, The Salty Suites play here monthly when schedules allow and are happy to bring their show to the small intimate setting of the Gallery. Come have a blast.
+
Opening are their young friends, The Wimberley Bluegrass Band. Comprised entirely of four teenage siblings based in Southern California, they are Danielle Wimberley (age 19) who plays mandolin and is a Weber Instruments endorsed artist; James Wimberley (age 18) who is a Deering Banjos endorsed artist and plays banjo; Mark Wimberley, his twin, who is a Black Diamond Strings endorsed artist and plays guitar; and Michael Wimberley (age 14) who plays the fiddle. They all sing, with Michael usually taking the lead and the others singing that tight harmony unique to family groups. Wimberley Bluegrass Band provides fun and wholesome musical entertainment, and strives to keep the traditional sounds of bluegrass music alive and well by taking it to new audiences. They have performed at such noted venues as Winter NAMM, The Echo in Los Angeles, CA, the Main Stage at the Orange County Fair, CA, the Jimmy Driftwood Barn in Mountain View, AR, and Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO – and more.
+
They have also performed at many Bluegrass festivals in California, including the Parkfield Bluegrass Festival and the Huck Finn Jubilee; they were the headlining band at the Big Bear Bluegrass Festival in 2012. They take their lead from the likes of Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, Del McCoury, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, Dailey & Vincent, and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver.
