Mid-Week Invitation and Tonight’s Live Music – Wed, Dec 4, 2013

.
Before we get to tonight’s live music scene, we have an invitation for you to take part part in something wonderful, this coming Sunday:
.
★ Share ★ Share ★ Share ★ this news item / invitation with fellow musicians and singers…

♪   INVITATION TO MUSICIANS and all who LOVE TO SING: Join celebrities in the meaningful and purposeful "32nd ANNUAL LOS ANGELES HOLIDAY CAROLING FESTIVITIES"

Bring joy to shut-ins and their care-givers, and meet and perform with music legends!

It happens Sunday, DECEMBER 8, 2013 at 6 senior care centers (perform 4-7:30 pm or during an part of that time -- it's a "modular schedule" that allows you to arrive/depart at your discretion). Everything is prearranged in several locations in the West San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles.

IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING the scheduled caroling, all musicians / singers / participants are invited to socialize and dine at the nearby HomeTown Buffet Restaurant (at VanOwen & Fallbrook) in Canoga Park, from 7:30-9:30 pm. (And you will WANT to be there to mix 'n mingle with fellow musicians, some QUITE accomplished and famous!)

This community service project is open to entertainers, singers, and musicians of all talent levels and ages.

A full media blitz promoting this mission and event is being launched to major Los Angeles metro radio, television, and newspaper outlets, music media, local church bulletins, and more.

Is this some hardcore "Christian thing?" No. Jewish Hanukkah songs are featured, and this functions effectively to bring joy to audience members who respond to the holidays in a secular way, as well.

To view the special documentary (11:34) on the "2012 Los Angeles Holiday Caroling Festivities," produced by Smile TV and featuring honoree Alan O’Day, go to:

http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=MU2vKrh7i6M

This year's event is being celebrated in memory of the late Alan O’Day (#1 hit song, "Undercover Angel"), a longtime and prominent performer of the Los Angeles Holiday Caroling Festivities troop (from 1997 thru 2012), with his wife Yuka and friends.

The event's audience will see this one, live, show this year. Think about that.

All effort given to support, promote, and participate in this heart-warming activity is appreciated -- especially since your celebrity name, contribution, music, and presence helps promote the theme and enhance the festivities for all involved.

Please RSVP, ASAP, to the event's producer (info below) and if pertinent, provide authorization to use your name on the invitation, website, press release etc.

If you are unable to attend, please take this encouragement to gather your own group, or to go individually, and visit your local senior centers or residential facilities for shut-ins. This simple act of kindness can make a difference and add true meaning for all, through and beyond the holiday season

The Acoustic Americana Music Guide proudly supports this event every year. In addition, we always find our participation to be profoundly and personally meaningful. And we add our invitation to that from the producer, and encourage you to take part!

Wed, Dec 4, FILM SCREENING, in
6:30 pm  Cecil B. DeMille's 1923 “THE TEN COMMANDMENTS” 90th Anniversary of the premiere, where it happened, at the Egyptian Theatre,
+
Co-presented by the Art Deco Society and Hollywood Heritage, with support from the DeMille Foundation.
+
It’s an interesting anniversary. The American Cinematheque re-opened Grauman's Egyptian Theatre on December 4, 1998 following an intensive 18-month restoration, rehabilitation, renovation and adaptive re-use of the legendary theatre where the first Hollywood movie premiere was held in 1922. The Art Deco Society was on the scene and dressed to the nines in vintage premiere night fashions, making guests feel as if they had fallen through a time warp, back to the 1920s. The paint was still wet and the plaque acknowledging the Egyptian's status as a National Historic Cultural Monument was freshly minted as the audience flooded into the courtyard to experience the 1923 silent film classic, “THE TEN COMMANDMENTS,” accompanied by a live orchestra -- just as Sid Grauman's guests did 75 years-to-the-day earlier. Charlton Heston, Billy Barty, a live camel and a glittering vintage 1920s fashion parade were in the mix that night, as movies rolled once again on the Egyptian's giant screen.
+
Tonight, fifteen years and thousands of movies later, it happens once again, this time to celebrate nine decades since Cecil B. DeMille's 1923 “THE TEN COMMANDMENTS” first screened at the Egyptian Theatre -- where it premiered 90 years ago.
+
The feature is presented with live musical accompaniment by a string-and-horn ensemble led by Cliff Retallick, whose brand-new score will transport you back to biblical Egypt and the roaring '20s. The film begins at 7:30 pm, after a 6:30 pm cake-cutting and toast to the anniversary.

Wed, Dec 4, in SFV (Northridge):
8 pm  SIDELINE, an all-star bluegrass ensemble comprised of players from several top bands, plays a holiday show for the Bluegrass Association of Southern California (BASC) concert series at Rancho Cordillera del Norte, 18916 Nordhof, Northridge 91324.
+
BASC tells us this is "bluegrass by some of this genre’s most stellar performers! Side projects are becoming more and more common in the bluegrass world. Sometimes it’s a solo project from a member of an established band; other times it’s an all-star effort involving a bevy of popular artists. But sometimes it’s an actual band, who perform irregularly, as its members all tour and record with other groups full time.
+
"Such is the case with the aptly named SIDELINE, which started a few years back as something fun to do in December, when work for bluegrass bands is in short supply. In such short supply that for years, road warriors IIIrd Tyme Out take the entire month off, a nice perk, given how much they travel during the rest of the year.
+
"But not everyone wants to give up picking for a whole month, so each year 3TO banjo player Steve Dilling assembles a group of musicians to do a series of special concerts during the holiday season. Two years ago that solidified into a regular lineup with fellow 3TO-er Justen Haynes on fiddle, Darrel Webb on mandolin, Skip Cherryhomes on guitar, and Jason Moore on bass."
+
The guys enjoy playing together so much that they did a few late-night showcases during the 2011 "World of Bluegrass" conference, and are now cutting a debut album that's due for release this Spring.
