.
.
Here's a quick, single-item edition for a fine and fun event happening TODAY.

Thursday, August 17, FREE:
4 pm "VERDI'S AIDA AT THE MARINA" is a FREE concert by the MARINA DEL REY SYMPHONY in Burton Chace Park, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey, CA 90292.

* THE VENUE: Chace Park is 10 acres of lush lawn and trees that extends into the Marina’s main channel, offering magnificent boat and ocean vistas. It's surrounded on three sides by water. As beee-you-ti-full a venue as you'll find anywhere.

* THE CONCERT: "At the Nile’s edge, the enslaved Nubian princess, Aida becomes romantically entangled with the Egyptian captain, Radames, who is betrothed to the Pharaoh’s daughter, Amneris. As their forbidden love grows deeper, Aida is forced to find balance between her heart’s yearning for Radames, and her responsibility to lead her people. The Marina Del Rey Symphony brings a fully staged production of Verdi's masterpiece Aida to one of the most spectacular waterfront settings in Los Angeles, Chace Park in Marina Del Rey. We will have a lovely Picnic Potluck Meet & Greet beside the water before the concert. Watch the boats in the Marina and the clouds roll by, feel the ocean air on your face, tune out the day and tune in to great opera."

The Guide will be back soon with MUCH more! Events, previews, reviews, and plenty of music news, are all returning soon, in very full editions.

IN CASE YOU'RE WONDERING, or you know and want an update, here's a quick paragraph on "Where have we been?"

Our editor's temporarily "other" role continues as chief support system for our friend and Guide contributor who is recovering from a major cancer surgery. Lots of medical appointments, lab results and re-checks are happening and the patient still can't drive a car. But the great news is, tests all indicate they got all the cancer out! So her recovery continues, even if not in a straight line of ascendancy back to vim and vigor. Thanks to the many who have sent good wishes, good mojo, good vibes, prayers, spiritual sustenance and good cosmic energy -- all those things continue to be appreciated every which way they are sent and they arrive.

Seriously: Go get lost in acoustica esoterica and memories of past albums, festivals, concerts and events, whenever you're bored with the pop pablum that infests mainstream media.

♪ The ACOUSTIC AMERICANA MUSIC GUIDE endeavors to bring you NEWS — and views of interest to artists everywhere — more specifically to musicians and the creative community and music makers and fans of acoustic and Folk-Americana music. That includes both traditional and innovative forms. From the deepest roots to today’s acoustic renaissance, that’s our beat. We provide a wealth of resources, including a HUGE catalog of acoustic-friendly venues (now undergoing a major update), and inside info on FESTIVALS and select performances in Southern California in venues from the monumentally large to the intimately small and cozy. We cover workshops, conferences, and other events for artists and folks in the music industry, and all kinds o’ things in the world of acoustic and Americana and accessible classical music. From washtub bass to musical spoons to oboe to viola to banjo to squeezebox, from Djangostyle to new-fangled-old-time string band music, from sweet Cajun fiddle to bluegrass and pre-bluegrass Appalachian mountain music to all the swamp water roots of the blues and the bright lights of where the music is headed now.
