Through January, in L.A.:
"JOHN FOGERTY: WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE," is the wonderful temporary exhibition at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, on display through this month. It features artifacts from his personal collection, and it is named after his current album, hailed by fans and critics alike. John Fogerty’s music was considered rock when he first made it with CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL, but, current and retro, it’s classic roots-rock-Americana now. The album received a rare 5-star lead review in Rolling Stone. Included with regular museum admission, which also includes the temporary exhibition, “RINGO: PEACE & LOVE.”

“Hyphenated folk” – It's become popular for a lot if alternative bands to describe their music as some kind of that. This is one if those "alternative" things. But increasingly, alternative can mean anything, so at least some of the acts playing will likely appeal to some readers of The Guide. So here we go.
+
The Echo, Echo Park Rising, DoLA, and Origami Vinyl team-up to present "FOMO Fest 2014" (FOMO = Fear of Misding Out). Bands are Avid Dancer, Bogan Via, Fever the Ghost, Hindu Pirates, Kera and the Lesbians, Lo-Fang, Liphemra, Santoros, Tall Tales and the Silver Lining, Wet & Reckless, Spazzkid, and John Tottenham.
+
Here's a little info on SOME of the bands:

Avid Dancer: sounds of the '60s and '70s —  shimmering and tremeloed guitars, vocal hooks and AM radio-ready motifs.
+
Bogan Via: Bret William Bender and Madeline Miller bring their distinctive electronic-folk sound.
+
Hindu Pirates: out of Huntington Beach, is five young dudes, 18 to 21, fusing garage rock and blues.

Susie Glaze & The Hilonesome Band has been likened to the classic British bands Pentangle and Fairport Convention in that they blend classic folk music with rough-edged stories of tragedy and fate, all with orchestral arrangements sounding like chamber music gone folk. A lush newgrass Americana folk fusion quintet presenting gorgeous eclectic blends of mountain folk and exciting new grassy and Celtic-inspired originals, all with the remarkable voice of Susie Glaze.
+
Winner of the Just Plain Folks 2006 Music Award for Best Roots Album for their debut CD "Blue Eyed Darlin,'" The Hilonesome Band is Steve Rankin on mandolin, Rob Carlson on guitar and dobro, Fred Sanders on bass and Mark Indictor on fiddle, showcasing the songwriting of lead guitarist Carlson. The band has appeared at many premier venues and festivals on the West Coast, including Berkeley’s Freight & Salvage, McCabe's, The Broad Stage, the Hollywood Bowl, and CalTech Folk Music Society, among others.
