AXS TV has broadcast rights and will do 20 hours from Stagecoach, beginning Friday.

For Roots-Americana fans, the festival again brings wonderful lineups on the "B" and "C" stages that they call the "Mustang" and "Palomino" Stages, where music starts each day at 1 pm & 1:30 pm, respectively.

The festival's "Mane" Stage features Nashville pop-country acts and apocalyptic sound.
+
If you have tickets, plan to get to the parking entrances a couple hours early each day. It will take you that much time to get parked, get into the grounds, and set-up your bag chair at one of the roots music stages. (Yes, indeedy, the Guide DID bring you a "Ticket Alert" for this, many months ago.)

There are lots of great acts, including, but not limited to: Asleep at the Wheel, Calico, Crystal Gayle, Don McLean, Earthworm Ensemble, Eric Church, John Prine, Florida Georgia Line, Hunter Hayes, Jason Isbell, Michael Nesmith, Nacona, Luke Bryan, Nitty Gritty Dirt band, Nicki Bluhm, Sarah Jarosz, Shelby Lynne, Shovels and Rope, The Howlin' Bros, The Wailin' Jennys, Trampled by Turtles, The Seldom Scene, Wanda Jackson, and I See Hawks in L.A. featuring guest appearances by Rick Shea, Victoria Jacobs, and Phoebe Bridgers. The Hawks & co play twice on Sunday, at 1 pm on the "Palomino Stage," and at 7 pm on the "Honky Tonk Stage."

Among the “Mane Stage” headliners are ERIC CHURCH, JASON ALDEAN, LUKE BRYAN, LORETTA LYNN, HUNTER HAYES, BRANTLEY GILBERT, and FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE. It’s likely that those are the ones you’ll see on AXS TV coverage. The Stagecoach website has the complete lineup for all stages (see below).
+
Of course, Folk-Americana music fans could care less about the Nashville pop-country "stars," and instead look forward with strong enthusiasm to the top bluegrass, Americana, folk and western music acts booked on the "B" and "C" stages. Those "sideshows" at Stagecoach are often inclusive of the best bookings at top folk festivals –  despite the challenge of apocalyptic over-amplification from the Nashville "Mane" Stage, half a mile away. √  THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT’s NEW ALBUM, “SONG IN MY HEAD”

As the April 29 release date approaches for THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT’s much-anticipated album “SONG IN MY HEAD,” due on SCI Fidelity Records / Loud & Proud Records, the band teamed-up with BILLBOARD.COM to exclusively premiere the new album in its entirety, April 24 (check their site, at www.billboard.com). All that corresponds to the band’s intimate performance and in-store signing at Amoeba Records in San Francisco, and their three night run at Oakland’s Fox Theater, April 24-26.

When asked about recording in the studio, the band’s Michael Kang told Billboard.com, “We really love it. For us, it gets us in a real creative zone. We get the opportunity to get together, rehearse, write new songs, and try new things out. I think ‘Song in My Head’ played a key role in motivating us all to keep writing and pushing what we are doing.” Jason Hann adds: “Every one of us, at this point, are songwriters and are really interested in the production aspect of being in the studio.”

To further the celebration of the “SONG IN MY HEAD” release, the band is set to perform a free “incident” – they call all their concerts and other live performances “incidents” – on The Hill in Boulder, the Colorado city they’ve called home since the early days of the band. That happens this coming Monday, April 28, from 6-8 pm Mountain time, with the stage set-up on 13th Street and College Avenue. There are hints of a last-minute announcement of a live web stream, so monitor the situation for an “incident.”

“SONG IN MY HEAD” is perhaps the band’s tightest and most skillful album yet and features ten new songs written collaboratively by the group. Of the new collection, Relix magazine wrote: “On The String Cheese Incident’s first new studio album in nine years, they truly sound like they’ve found a comfortable, collaborative groove. ‘Song in My Head’ comes off like a live iteration of the band, and maybe that’s because it’s loaded with 10 tight-sounding, jam-ready songs… Each musician’s creativity, voice and flavor shines through.” ~ Relix, April / May 2014.

Paul Freeman of the San Jose Mercury News raved the album “…represents a stirring return for the revered Colorado alt-bluegrass jam band. This vibrant, polished album was produced by Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads)… After 20 years, the band's harmonies and instrumentation sound tight and spirited.” (4/16/14).

Additionally, Jambase.com said, “The end result is an album that is quite possibly the band’s most musically tight and adeptly tied together studio effort to date. These songs ignite a sense of freshness and new inspiration but at times feels stripped down to the core sound of the band’s early years.” (4/18/14).

GratefulMusic.com said, “Song In My Head is a project the band specifically designed to encompass everything that is The String Cheese Incident and it does just that among it's well-timed beats, driving rhythm, guitar licks, fiddle jams, bass rides, in the studio it sets a pace that keeps the bar brilliantly high for these titans of the Live Music World.” (4/18/14).

THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT are the collaborative ensemble of BILL NERSHI (guitars and vocals), MICHAEL KANG (mandolin, violin, guitar and vocals), KEITH MOSELEY (bass & vocals), MICHAEL TRAVIS (drums and percussion), KYLE HOLLINGSWORTH (keyboards & vocals) and JASON HANN (percussion). They’ll continue their extensive touring schedule with several festival “incidents” confirmed this summer, including headlining the “New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival” on Thursday, May 1, the “Beale Street Music Festival” on Sunday, May 4, “DelFest” on Sunday, May 25, “Wakarusa” on June 6-7, and locally, one that Southern Cal fans anticipate.

The “Huck Finn Jubilee,” June 13-15, will include performances, er, incidents, by the band

7:30 pm  SINGLE WING TURQUOISE BIRD presents their psychedelic musical light show, as they famously did in the’60s, for the “Visions and Voices” series in the School of Cinematic Arts Complex, Stage 4, on the USC Campus in University Park (L.A.)
+
Admission is free. Reservations required. See url below.
+
Single Wing Turquoise Bird was among the most sophisticated of the 1960s and ’70s psychedelic light shows. Formed in 1968 in Los Angeles, “the Bird” accompanied legendary bands including Cream, the Velvet Underground, Sly and the Family Stone, Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead. Later, they performed to music by Steve Reich, Terry Riley and other avant-garde composers. With a core group of seven artists improvising collectively in real-time, the group used overhead projectors, slide projectors and high-intensity 16mm film projectors to create swirling visual compositions made from multicolored immiscible liquids. Anaïs Nin described their shows as “like a thousand modern paintings flowing and sparkling.” The Bird reformed several years ago, adding new members and incorporating digital technologies. The group will present two performances accompanied by Serbian guitarist Miroslav Tadic. Each performance will be unique, as the images and music are improvised, reflecting the interplay between the members of the Single Wing Turquoise Bird and guest musicians.
+
During the ‘the Bird’s” time on campus, a three-day workshop will teach students about projected-light equipment, improvisation and collaboration in multimedia performance (open to USC students only.)
+
The performances are organized by Christine Panushka (Animation and Digital Art) and David E. James (Critical Studies).

Venue impresario Bob Stane will tell you that Sourdough Slim is “One of our very best acts.” The Guide is a huge fan. How long has it been since we had a good saw player, accordion player, and yodeler on stage all at one time? Too long, without doubt, so here comes Vaudeville cowboy Sourdough Slim, this time bringing along his good friend, Robert Armstrong.
+
A marvel of musical ingenuity, yodeling cowboy Sourdough Slim and string instrument wizard Robert Armstrong joyously rekindle the country blues, cowboy classics and string band repertoire of pre-WWII America. A fast-paced performance of music and comedy that showcases their seasoned gift for connecting with audiences.
+
Whether capturing the haunting refrain of a Jimmie Rodgers blue yodel or swinging out a hot novelty number, everyone gets caught up in the fun these two cut-ups have on stage. Between them they share a provocative array of period instruments including: flat-top guitar, national steel, baritone and soprano ukulele, musical saw, accordion, six-string banjo and harmonica.

Well-traveled veterans of stages ranging from Carnegie Hall and The Lincoln Center to The National Cowboy Gathering, Strawberry Music Festival and Prairie Home Companion, these modern day vaudevillians capture a sound and moment in time that consistently delights fun loving music fans everywhere they perform.
