Fri-Sun, Jun 16-18, 2017:
"LIVE OAK MUSIC FESTIVAL" at Live Oak Camp, about twenty minutes inland from Santa Barbara, CA; www.liveoakfest.org
✔ TIX: 3-day Full Festival Pass is $130 adult, $80 teen, $40 child, free under age 4. Single-day adult/teen $55 adv, $65 gate; $20 child (4-11); day parking is $15. VIP add-on pkgs are available. Full festival, camping and day tix available at 805-781-3030.
✔ CAMPING: Yes.
✔ NOTE: This fine festival finances the wonderful Central Coast public radio station KCBX. (While the rest of public radio browbeats listeners with endless pledge drives...)
✔ THE SCENE: It's prominently inclusive of Folk-Americana and acoustic singer-songwriters — plus various other acts that make it an eclectic musical experience. There are lots of fun folks, a happy, friendly vibe, and plenty of free-form dancing as a kinetic certainty to the sides of the main stage. It can get hot or the daytime temps can be delightful. That's a year-by-year thing. "Nestled in the river valley that feeds Cachuma Lake, the site is filled with old oaks that provide restful shade and pristine beauty. The focus of the Live Oak Music Festival is, of course, the main stage performances. With musicians from all over the United States and across the globe performing, this hub of the festival is the gathering place for everyone to hear and see some of the finest entertainers anywhere do what they do best: play music. Ranging from traditional, folk, bluegrass and gospel, to blues, jazz, classical and world music, and touching most genres in between, the main stage provides cultural entertainment and education. The music on the main stage is engineered by a top-notch crew, so the sound is second to none for an outdoor venue. Adding to the fun of the main stage music is a collection of arts and crafts booths, music workshops, fireside jamming, and rowdy barn dances on Friday and Saturday nights." Campgrounds accommodate RVs and tent campers and have access to showers at no extra charge. "A variety of daytime activities for small children, from a fairie garden, to arts & crafts, to a major talent show, offer any youngsters who are not-so-interested in the main stage's music plenty to do;" plus, "craft passes" are available for advance purchase. Added late, the Something Ridiculous Jugglers will perform daily shows and workshops at the Children's Camp.

Ahead in the Guide...

THE COMING SUMMER...

We'll keep you updatred on MUSIC NEWS, all the festivals that feature Folk-Americana and/or acoustic music, and we'll bring you plenty of feature stories on special events, along with some previews, reviews and select "picks" (the recommendations kind, not the kind you use on strings; we've never had any of those printed with our logo, though we would if someone wanted to sponsor that.)

That said... contrary to appearances the last month or so, we're really NOT going back into the daily music calendar bid'ness. But there is SUCH an irresistible bridge of tunefulness between the current weekends of festivals that we ARE doing full-blown music calendars through July 4th.

We all know that if you rely on corporate mainstream media for your supposed news, you'd miss all these things.

Along with 'purt near all the music news we bring you.

It certainly does seem like Big Corporate Media only promotes and reports on soundalike pop pablum with incongruously unnecessary vocal gymnastics... we don't do that, and we wouldn't cover that stuff even if they didn't. But the point is, they just plain refuse to cover real acoustic music made without loops of electrocution sound effects — from Frankenstein's lightning storm or wherever they find that annoying stuff. So just hit the mute button on them and turn here. We cover all kinds 'o real acoustic music. And, yes, we'll feature some select picks of concerts, etc., as we navigate the summer together.

__________

As always, you know that a whole lot more is coming soon — including fresh MUSIC NEWS, PREVIEWS & REVIEWS, and more additions to our massive guide to the MUSIC FESTIVALS of 2017.

Meantime, with everything happening this weekend? Go get tuneful!

LEGALESE, CONTACTING US, 'N SUCH...

Boilerplate? Where's the main pressure gauge? And the firebox?

What "boilerplate"? Who came up with that goofy term for the basic essential informational stuff...

♪ The ACOUSTIC AMERICANA MUSIC GUIDE endeavors to bring you NEWS — and views of interest to artists everywhere — more specifically to musicians and the creative community and music makers and fans of acoustic and Folk-Americana music. That includes both traditional and innovative forms. From the deepest roots to today’s acoustic renaissance, that’s our beat. We provide a wealth of resources, including a HUGE catalog of acoustic-friendly venues (now undergoing a major update), and inside info on FESTIVALS and select performances in Southern California in venues from the monumentally large to the intimately small and cozy. We cover workshops, conferences, and other events for artists and folks in the music industry, and all kinds o’ things in the world of acoustic and Americana and accessible classical music. From washtub bass to musical spoons to oboe to viola to banjo to squeezebox, from Djangostyle to new-fangled-old-time string band music, from sweet Cajun fiddle to bluegrass and pre-bluegrass Appalachian mountain music to all the swamp water roots of the blues and the bright lights of where the music is headed now.
