PAULIE PESH, says host Garret Swayne, is a “world-folk groove rocker” who “successfully integrates world music with elements of rock in a way that hasn't been heard since Paul Simon's ‘Graceland,’ or The Police's adaptation of reggae and eastern music. The son of a Latin-jazz musician, Paulie was exposed at an early age to Afro-Caribbean music, but as he entered his teenage years, he was more drawn to the aggressive edginess of punk rock. All those myriad influences remain in the stew, but these days, his music is firmly rooted in melody and groove. He's been the main songwriter in over a dozen bands since the age of 13, in styles ranging from Ska-Punk to Rock Opera. Now at age 22, Pesh feels a make-or-break sense of urgency about his music. Ready to play anywhere, anytime, he performs at various singer-songwriter venues all around Los Angeles, whenever he isn't appearing with his current trio. Paulie's music is distinctive and thought provoking, inspiring movement within and beyond the rhythm of the beat. ZACH SINGER, says Garret, is an “alt-folk fusion songmaker,” who “has been writing songs since the age of six. He's a well known regular at Kulak's Woodshed [and] involved with a number of other music communities in Los Angeles. As a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, Zach has learned to adapt to virtually any kind of modern musical environment - as a guitarist, bassist, singer and producer. His music has an introspective, sometimes cynical, sometimes humorous sensibility, sometimes likened to Neil Young or Ben Folds. And the funky, often jammy/psychedelic tendencies of bands like Sublime. [And] Modest Mouse, and Wilco, also find their way into his music. By day, Zach teaches music at Valley Beth Shalom Hebrew School in Encino and by night, he labors in the studio. His new venture, an indie label/home studio called Star Guitar Records, keeps him busy, as well as gigging around LA as bandleader and a side man. Zach released a debut EP, ‘Idiopathic,’ in June '07, and is releasing a double disc album later in 2009.
