Friday, June 17
~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~
Fri, Jun 17; Fri-Sun, Jun 17-19, FESTIVAL, in the desert:
Annual “HUCK FINN JUBILEE” with performances by ROY CLARK, RODNEY DILLARD & THE DILLARD BAND, THE GIBSON BROTHERS, JULIE WINGFIELD, WAYNE RICE & LIGHTHOUSE, BLUEGRASS ETC, SIERRA HULL, NEW FOUND ROAD, SCOTT GATES & SALTY SUITES, MARK TWAIN LIVE, GRASSLANDS, TOM & BECKY, and more, plus Line Dance Workshops with KC DOUGLAS, Clog Dancing with THE BON FAMILY CLOGGERS, lots of fun activities for kids, and a bit of mid-nineteenth century Mark Twain culture straight from “Life on the Mississippi” all transported to a bluegrass festival on a river in the California desert (really). At Mojave Narrows Regional Park, Victorville; 951-780-8810. Named in recent years in a national ranking as the best weekend music festival in America.
DOYLE LAWSON AND QUICKSILVER co-headline Friday. Stunning instrumental work and perfect vocal harmonies have brought multiple Grammy and Dove Award nominations to this legendary group. With the release of their new album “Drive Time” in March, the band finds itself performing not only to bluegrass audiences, but also to ESPN sports fans. A brief visit to California brings them to Huck Finn’s main stage for two performances and a vocal workshop today, Friday.
The GIBSON BROTHERS co-headline Friday. 2010 International Bluegrass Music Association award winners, Eric and Leigh Gibson are widely recognized as the finest brother duet in bluegrass music today, joining the Louvins and the Stanleys in the tradition of those high lonesome harmonies that can only be created by family. The just released “Help Me Brother” is their 10th album and arguably the finest in the duo’s career. The Gibson Brothers return to the Jubilee today, Friday, with two main stage performances and a workshop.
BLUEGRASS ETC. co-headlines Friday & Saturday. JOHN MOORE, DENNIS CAPLINGER, & BILL BRYSON have forged an alliance of “super pickers” that are considered by many as some of the finest in the industry. Individual members have won Grammys, appeared on television and toured internationally. Not only bluegrass, but other styles of “roots” music are ably presented by this popular group, fortunately on both Friday and Saturday, both on the Main Stage and in music workshops.
X-TRAIN, a high energy bluegrass band, brings National Champion guitar flat picker Peter McLaughlin, with featuring Ross Nickerson on banjo, Mark Miracle on mandolin, Doug Bartlett on fiddle, and Bob Denoncourt on bass. Fortunately, they perform all three days.
MARK TWAIN - LIVE is there only on Friday. Seeing the legendary Mark Twain "in person" has been a treat since Hal Holbrook did his one-man show 40 years ago. Now, Mike Randal brings his considerable talents to the role, and “Mark Twain Live” travels from New York to the Jubilee to offer an encounter with America's greatest author and humorist. After 2000 performances, Randall is compared by some to be as good, if not better than, Holbrook. Randall's re-creation of Twain is Friday at 9 pm.
Of course, there’s lots more, including Line Dance Workshops with KC Douglas, Clog Dancing with the Bon Family Cloggers, the Friday Night Barn Dance with Riley's Mountaineers, and many more bands. The Riley Family brings an “Old Fashion Barn Dance” to the Jubilee’s Mountain Man Village Shelter on Friday night, 8:30-11 pm. They return Sunday for an Old-Time Gospel Sing at 9 am – they provide the hymnbooks.

I'll play a full hour set which I'm really looking forward to.” FREE show with purchase of $5 in food / drink. Free street parking on Santa Monica Bl and Wilcox (on Las Palmas too, but harder to find).
Carrie is getting good press for her new album "The Old Ways;” check Leicester Bangs at www.leicesterbangs.co.uk/may11-34.html
Or here’s the one from Rootstime! Magazine (out of Belgium) at www.rootstime.be (but here’s the English translation): “Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Carrie Wade surprises all with her debut album ‘The Old Ways.’ All ten tracks on this CD, music and lyrics, were written entirely by Carrie Wade and with ‘The Old Ways’ she’s proven that she is gifted with many talents. The songs on this CD are folk and country music-based, each telling a new story. The skillful broad instrumentation creates an extra dimension, providing ‘The Old Ways’ with a very professional touch. While we were listening to this album, we soon got the impression that a number of these songs are ready for frequent play on contemporary radio. The best candidates are ‘It’s Just Blood,’ the country sauce-infused ‘Drive,’ the swinging country-rocker ‘American Boys’ and the beautiful country ballad ‘In A World That Goes Wrong,’ in which Marty Rifkin’s pedal steel adds perfect atmosphere. Toward the end of ‘The Old Ways,’ Carrie Wade serves the listener with another two brilliant songs, the catchy piano riff-based song ‘Sublime’ and the easy-to- hum-along-with, waltzing ‘Cuddling With Doom.’ With this debut album Carrie Wade has set a high bar for herself, however, after hearing her first effort, many will look forward to the successor. (valsam)”

~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~
Sat, Jun 18; Fri-Sun, Jun 17-19; FESTIVAL, in the desert:
Annual “HUCK FINN JUBILEE” with performances by ROY CLARK, RODNEY DILLARD & THE DILLARD BAND, THE GIBSON BROTHERS, JULIE WINGFIELD, WAYNE RICE & LIGHTHOUSE, BLUEGRASS ETC, SIERRA HULL, NEW FOUND ROAD, SCOTT GATES & SALTY SUITES, MARK TWAIN LIVE, GRASSLANDS, TOM & BECKY, and more, plus Line Dance Workshops with KC DOUGLAS, Clog Dancing with THE BON FAMILY CLOGGERS, lots of fun activities for kids, and a bit of mid-nineteenth century Mark Twain culture straigh from “Life on the Mississippi” all transported to a bluegrass festival on a river in the California desert (really). At Mojave Narrows Regional Park, Victorville; 951-780-8810. Named in recent years in a national ranking as the best weekend music festival in America.
RODNEY DILLARD AND THE DILLARD BAND co-headline on Saturday. Regularly appearing on The Andy Griffith Show, and then-half-comedy / half folk music Ice House in Pasadena, Rodney Dillard brought his unique style of back porch bluegrass and comedy to millions, via television. He is the founding member of THE DILLARDS, and enjoys a career that brought him two Grammy nominations and induction into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. His newest album, “I Wish Life Was Like Mayberry” revisits the show’s episodes, humor and values that became uniquely American. He celebrates “Huck's” 35th celebration on Saturday, offering two main stage performances and an afternoon workshop.
SCOTT GATES & THE SALTY SUITES play Saturday. The trio of Scott Gates, Chuck Hailes and Chelsea Williams thrilled the crowd at this year’s Topanga Banjo Fiddle Contest. Both Scott and Chelsea had their radio debut playing live on “Tied to the Tracks,” so we’ve watched their individual and collective careers with much interest. All three members live in the world of live acoustic music, sharing a passion for roots and bluegrass, as well as traditional mountain music. Scott performed with Steve Martin last year on TV’s Ellen Show, and recently recorded with Kenny Loggins. Chuck, with a degree in the Upright Bass, sings and plays in a way that is uniquely his own. Chelsea Williams, writing and performing since she was 13, has penned over 100 original songs and sold thousands of CDs at her live performances. Opening Saturday’s main stage at 9:30 am, this new band is young, hard driving and offers a creative and fun approach to their music. Get there early.
THE TENNESSEE MAFIA JUG BAND play Saturday and Sunday. They are regulars on RFD TV – five guys and a washboard – offering hot picking, powerful harmony singing and riotous hijinks. Claiming their musical roots run deep as wisdom teeth, the various band members have performed with Bill Monroe, Roy Acuff and Faith Hill, not to mention the Grand Ole Opry, Hee Haw, CMT and GAC cable TV – even Billy Bob Thorton’s society wedding to Angelina Jolie. This is the band’s first visit to California, so we’re glad to see them booked to play both Saturday and Sunday. The frolicking five promises to brighten up the stage with rib-tickling old time tunes often seen on the old Roy Acuff Show.
SIERRA HULL plays Saturday and Sunday. At 17 years of age, Sierra Hull launched her national debut album, “Secrets”, and in May ’09, the most often played track, “That’s All I Can Say,” reached the #1 spot on Sirius/XM’s trend-setting “Bluegrass Junction.” Sierra is the youngest artist to achieve such success on that show. Now 19, with her newest album “Daybreak” and video “Easy Come Easy Go” on CMT, Sierra’s star is rising. Dolly Parton notes “… Sierra is truly a beautiful and talented gift to this world, so special and unique. Daybreak is an awakening.” Sierra returns to Southern California and the Huck Finn Main Stage Saturday and Sunday, with two performances each day and workshops.
Of course, there’s lots more, including Line Dance Workshops with KC Douglas, Clog Dancing with the Bon Family Cloggers, the Friday Night Barn Dance with Riley's Mountaineers, and many more bands. The Riley Family brings an Old-Time Gospel Sing Sunday at 9 am – they provide the hymnbooks.

Sat, Jun 18, FESTIVAL:
Annual “MAKE MUSIC PASADENA,” the biggest U.S. expression of the French-based FETE DE MUSIQUE, on many stages, in many venues and on many street corners throughout Pasadena. You can go to .makemusicpasadena.org; but we recommend you read this first. The schedule is quite heavy this year with indie rockers and world music. One example is, unfortunately, the Levitt Pavilion stage - the fine bandstand in Memorial Park, active only from 6-9 pm. It will be exclusively Afro Beat and Reggae all evening, heavy on KCRW DJ presences and their fare. But wait.
For all us folk-Americana types, don't throw in the towel. Even if they didn't et the memo about Old Crow Medicine Show and Mumford & Sons and music like theirs leading the way into the nation's hottest new trend, it's not all bleak here. If you can't afford the trek to either LIVE OAK, northeast of Santa Barbara, or HUCK FINN on the Mojave River near Victorville, there are some fine offerings at the free event in Pasadena, if you pick through the crush of its louder offerings.
The Guide recognizes that many of us are just plain broke, so we're giving special attention to the free event in Pasadena. We recommend all the shows at the Pasadena Central Library, 11 am-1 pm, including Susie Glaze and Hilonesome and the harp guitar concert with Greg Miner ('a' below), plus the following shows on various other stages (many of which happen at the same time): David Vidal at 1 pm ('c' below); Jessica Fichot at 1:30 pm ('b'); a tough choice of competing shows at 3 pm, where you'll need to pick Border Radio ('e'), Dustbowl Revival ('b'), The Wicked Saints ('c'), or Eliza Rickman ('f'). Then, there are offerings that could keep you around for more music, through a leisurely dinner or picnic or imbibing in Old Town, highlighted by another choice at 9 pm, to see either I See Hawks In L.A. ('m' - one of L.A.'s absolute best roots bands), or The Driftwood Singers ('n' - below).
Early in the day, you might think of checking out the primarily youthful offering of Classical Music on the Steps of City Hall, presented by Saturday Conservatory of Music, active 11 am-1 pm ('o' below).
Here are portions of the schedules and locations, only for the performances we think will be of greatest interest to you:
a) The 'Many Strings' theme at the Pasadena Central Library, Donald R. Wright Auditorium (a nice theater), 285 E Walnut; active 11 am-1 pm;

7 pm TRACY NEWMAN AND THE REINFORCEMENTS and DUTCH NEWMAN & THE MUSICAL MELODIANS at the Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N Lake Av, Altadena 92675; info, www.coffeegallery.com; reservations number (NEW) is 626-798-6236. It's a double headline bill. Bob Stane says, “Been here before and it is quite a show. A triumphant return. Another huge bargain for your money. $15.”
DUTCH NEWMAN and the MUSICAL MELODIANS are led by Paul “Dutch “ Newman, a vintage-clad songwriter and vocalist, fronts a five-piece ensemble known as the Musical Melodians. Performing originals inspired by music of the 1920s and '30s, and covering jazz era standards, The Musical Melodians have performed all over and have just released their CD, “Lowdown Man.” The band includes the San Francisco Songbird - Mikal Sandoval, master string man - John Reynolds, Corey Gemme, the one-man band with percussion, reeds, and cornet, Dan “Bone” Weinstein, master violinist, trombone, trumpet, and tuba player, Dave Jones, standup bassist, and Bob Mitchell on piano and melodica. Dutch Newman and The Musical Melodians will transport you to the bygone era of Paul Whiteman, Red Nichols, Ruth Etting, and Annette Hanshaw, with romantic ballads and red hot jazz.
TRACY NEWMAN AND THE REINFORCEMENTS are musically fine, and she has an interesting pedigree. Tracy is Paul “Dutch” Newman’s older sister. They’re both Los Angeles natives. Tracy started playing guitar at 14, primarily influenced by the Kingston Trio, about which she says, “I could actually play their songs, especially Tom Dooley which had, and still has only two chords.” After high school, Tracy wanted to be a folksinger, but her parents insisted she go to college. She went to the U of A in Tucson and quickly fell in with the local folk community, stopped attending college and started playing on street corners for money. Understandably, this freaked out her mother who flew to Tucson and dragged her back to LA for “help.” It’s taken Tracy a while to get back to her dream. Along the way, she worked as a TV writer with partner Jonathan Stark. Their first staff job was on Cheers. In 1997, they won the Emmy and the prestigious Peabody Award for writing the ground-breaking “coming out” episode of Ellen. In 2001, they created the ABC comedy, According to Jim, which recently completed its eighth and final season of production. Tracy has been writing songs all along and is once again performing full-time, sometimes for money. Her CD is called A Place in the Sun. The Reinforcements are Gene Lippmann, Rebecca Leigh, John Cartwright, John O’Kennedy, and Doug Knoll. This is a funny, moving and memorable show. Be prepared for unusual, modern folk tales.
(They were included in the Guide’s News Feature, JUNE CONCERTS FEATURE SUPERB DOUBLE BILLS in the June 3 edition, archived at http://acousticamericana.blogspot.com/2011/06/acoustic-americana-music-guide-news.html.) Tix, $15.

7-10 pm LISBETH SCOTT and ABRA MOORE play a benefit concert for The Forgotten Dream Project - Helping Women Remember the Dreams They Forgot, with special guest QUINN, at Kula Space 1231 Lincoln Blvd Santa Monica. Jo Tastula begins the evening with a meditation. Silent auction and food. Enter in rear through door on right, bring pillow for floor seating. Lisbeth tells us, “If you are a woman or if you know a woman, I think that's everyone!...then you know how easy it is for women to put everyone else first. Their children, the men in their lives, their jobs, their parents and on and on. This is the beauty of being feminine, but it is also the challenge. To balance giving to ourselves with giving to others. Because if we walk our path using our true gifts we lift up those around us. And sometimes years go by and we forget this. and so..The Forgotten Dream is born. We provide micro grants to women 18 and over… no age limit. These are grants not loans. Who needs more debt? In collaboration with the non-profit ‘A Place Called Home’ in South Central Los Angeles, grants from $500 to $2000 will be given to women who are ready to take the first step towards pursuing a dream. Creating this project is a dream come true for me. There are women, single mothers, who live in one room and support a family of 5 on less than $20,000 a year. This is practically next door to where I live. Los Angeles has given me a lot. I found my way and my true voice in this city. And now I'd like to give back. Come celebrate with us! 100% of all proceeds go to grant funding. Our first recipient, Berenice Bautista, will be present to share her dreams with us! I'm thrilled that Grammy nominee Abra Moore will be performing as well. Her work is stunning and moved me the moment I heard her voice.”

~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~
Sun, Jun 19; Fri-Sun, Jun 17-19; FESTIVAL, in the desert:
Annual HUCK FINN JUBILEE concludes today; festival brings performances by ROY CLARK, RODNEY DILLARD & THE DILLARD BAND, THE GIBSON BROTHERS, JULIE WINGFIELD, WAYNE RICE & LIGHTHOUSE, BLUEGRASS ETC, SIERRA HULL, NEW FOUND ROAD, SCOTT GATES & SALTY SUITES, MARK TWAIN LIVE, GRASSLANDS, TOM & BECKY, and more, plus Line Dance Workshops with KC DOUGLAS, Clog Dancing with THE BON FAMILY CLOGGERS, lots of fun activities for kids, and a bit of mid-nineteenth century Mark Twain culture straight from Life on the Mississippi all transported to a bluegrass festival on a river in the California desert (really). At Mojave Narrows Regional Park, Victorville; 951-780-8810. Named in recent years in a national ranking as the best weekend music festival in America.
ROY CLARK headlines Sunday. He’s thrilled generations of music fans. The late Bob Hope summed it up simply, saying, “Roy Clark is the consummate entertainer.” For more than 25 years, millions of families welcomed Roy’s familiar face, humor and musical prowess into their homes when they tuned-in TV’s “Hee Haw,” and before that, “The Beverly Hillbillies.” Believing that music can bridge continents, Roy still brings audiences to their feet, whether it’s the Grand Palace in Brussels or the Grand Ole Opry. Included in his string of hits is Grammy award winning “Alabama Jubilee,” “The Tips of My Fingers” and “Yesterday When I Was Young.” Roy joins a long list of top celebrities like Earl Scruggs, Roger Miller and Merle Haggard who have celebrated Father’s Day at the Huck Finn Jubilee. He performs Sunday at 6 pm.
JULIE WINGFIELD performs only on Sunday. With roots in the Huck Finn Jubilee, Julie Wingfield is a consummate country, bluegrass and gospel music entertainer. She is a multi-instrumentalist who owns Hummingbird Records, and a music studio in Apple Valley. Julie performs at gospel, bluegrass and country festivals through the Southwest and performs this year on Sunday for her 34th season at the Jubilee.

Join Charlie Davis, John Fluker, Jon Rubin and Harvey Shield for an unforgettable evening of laughter, classic songs and vocal perfection. Charlie has been seen on equity stages across the nation, was Spiderman in the seventies and his booming bass has been the voice of both God and Satan. Jon Rubin, a former teen idol with a soaring tenor, toured extensively and had top 40 hits with his seminal power pop group The Rubinoos. Newest member John Fluker, a brilliant vocalist, arranger and pianist, was musical director for Gladys Knight and has worked with many other great artists. 8 pm PETER FELDMANN, BLAINE SPROUSE & FRIENDS, plus MURPHY’S FLAW, plays the monthly “BASC BLUEGRASS NIGHT” brings one or more bands of bluegrass recording artists each month to Viva Cantina, 900 Riverside Dr, Burbank; 818-515-4444. Presented by the Bluegrass Association of Southern California.
Peter Feldmann, a singer and multi- instrumentalist with many years' performing experience throughout California and the West, Peter Feldmann has been presenting bluegrass, folk, string band, and related musics since the early 1960's, and is known as the founder of the Santa Barbara Old Time Fiddler's Convention, and the original Bluebird Cafe in Santa Barbara, a music club highly influential on the Southern California Music scene. Peter's tribute CD to Uncle Dave Macon, Grey Cat On The Tennessee Farm, was named to the nation's Top Ten Bluegrass albums of 2005 by the Chicago Tribune. Peter was given a Music Legend Award by the Topanga Banjo/Fiddle Association in 2008.
Blaine Sprouse, one of this country's finest fiddlers, was a Blue Grass Boy for Bill Monroe for several months, filling in when a hand injury sidelined Kenny Baker. He repeated this role on subsequent occasions. Subbing for Eddie Stubbs, Sprouse later donned a Johnson Mountain Boys hat for their tour of Moscow. Much in demand as sideman and session player, Blaine toured and recorded with a stunning array of legendary bluegrass and country artists, among them, Charlie Louvin, Jim and Jesse and the Virginia Boys, and the Osborne Brothers, often performing on the Grand Ole Opry where he had earlier fiddled for Bill and James Monroe. He joined banjo innovator Butch Robins to found The Bluegrass Band, and considers Kenny Baker as his chief source of inspiration.

Performances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Show with David Letterman, and a guest appearance on the season finale of ‘Gossip Girl’ have solidified their star power. Currently, their single ‘Changing’ is top-10 on Alternative Radio and multiple critics praise their latest album ‘All At Once,’ released on April 26. Personal friend of John Denver and a member of the New Kingston Trio, Jim Connor is the king of the old-time 5 string banjo players, and most famous for writing the song “Grandma’s Feather Bed.” Whether you call Jim’s banjo style frailing, or claw hammer, you are sure to agree with Earl Scruggs, who said that Jim Connor was the best! Join this Alabama music hall of fame achiever as he brings his own special brand of music from Sand Mountain, Alabama.
Jim Connor learned the art of old tyme banjo playing from Uncle Arthur Kuykendall on Sand Mountain in Alabama. He quickly developed his own style and became deeply immersed in the rich musical culture, so much a part of the folks that lived in his community. His music has taken him from his humble home on the mountain to concert venues all over the world, performing with artists such as Barbara Streisand, Linda Ronstadt and John Denver. Jim was also a member of the New Kingston Trio from 1965 through 1974 and appeared as “Richard and Jim” on the Hootenanny Show.
Jim may be most famous for penning the song “Grandma’s Feather Bed” written in a moment of homesickness for Jim’s real Grandmother back home. John Denver recorded “Grandma’s Feather Bed” on his multi-platinum album “Back Home Again.” Proficient on many instruments, including guitar, harmonica and the bones, this versatile and entertaining performer brings his stories and songs garnered from a long and varied musical career.
“The finest living traditional banjo player, and perhaps the best that ever lived..." - Earl Scruggs. Tix, $18.

3:15 pm PARLAPIANO, accompanied by MARK "POCKET" GOLDBERG & LYNN "SKINS" COULTER, play a house concert at the home of Marc Bachrach in Thousand Oaks 91362.
In Los Angeles, PHIL PARLAPIANO first toured in 1983 with folk icon Joan Baez to support her Live in Concert: Europe tour and album, playing piano, synthesizer and singing background vocals. As the tour progressed, his talent led him to being named musical director. He was a founding member of The Brothers Figaro, and signed to Geffen Records after a bidding war. work in the studio as a first call accordionist and keyboardist with the likes of Jon Bon Jovi, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Lowen and Navarro, Alanah Myles, Iris Dement, Carlene Carter, and Jude Cole.
In 1996, Phil was drafted into the smooth jazz world by saxophonist, Dave Koz, which culminated in co-writing a Chanukah song, "Eight Candles," featured on the Grammy nominated December Makes Me Feel This Way. Movie goers saw Parlapiano in the blockbuster film The Titanic as an accordion player during the memorable scene in the lower decks when Kate and Leo are dancing. His collaborative compositions were featured on the TV shows "Alias," "Felicity," Dawson's Creek" and "Joan of Arcadia."
As the new millennium began, Phil started to tour with Americana sweetheart Lucinda Williams. This led to a featured spot on the famed Martin Scorsese documentary, The Blues, as well as a VH1 Crossroads program backing up Elvis Costello on accordion. As 2003 rolled around, Parlapiano was asked to join the Let It Rain tour with Tracy Chapman, touring Europe and the states concluding with playing on TV's Austin City Limits. Phil then toured and recorded with seminal punkers Social Distortion, and is featured on the soundtrack of the movie, Lords of DogTown. Most recently that year, Parlapiano was featured on John Prine's Fair and Square, which earned the Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album. Many know him from his years touring with Lowen & Navarro.

“That Stephanie Bettman has reached a level comparable to others like Emmylou Harris, Joan Baez and Alison Krauss so quickly it’s a bit uncanny.” –Country Jukebox, Germany.
“Bettman jams it up like few others as she leads an ensemble with great imagination.” – Maverick Magazine, UK.
Stephanie Bettman is a singer/songwriter/fiddler extraordinaire and has been generating a buzz in bluegrass/country circles with inevitable comparisons to Alison Krauss and Emmylou Harris. Her partner, multi-instrumentalist, Luke Halpin, is an awesome talent in his own right. Named by Folkworks Magazine as one of LA’s top ten Female Singer Songwriters, Stephanie’s songs are sometimes sad, sometimes sassy but always stunning. Together she and Luke have been winners in many local and national competitions including:
* Grand Prize Winners in the 2008 So Cal Live Acoustic Music Competition.
* Winners in the 2007 Topanga Banjo / Fiddle contest.
* Folk Works Top Ten Los Angeles based female singer-songwriters of 2008.
* Music Connection’s Top Twenty-Five New Music Critiques of 2008.
Inspired by the likes of Sam Bush, Tony Rice, and Mark O’Conner, Luke’s perfectly blended harmonies and his instrumental expertise together with Stephanie’s artistry and performance make for a dynamic entertaining experience. One thing’s for sure, if Stephanie Bettman & Luke Halpin are on the bill, you are in for an unforgettable performance that will have you hooked from the first fiddle line to the last sweet harmony. Tix, $18.

8 pm FUR DIXON & STEVE WERNER play McCabe's, 3101 Pico Bl, Santa Monica 90405; 310-828-4497. Certainly and deservedly one of L.A.’s favorite new folk duos, these two have toured and played lots of places to great acclaim. Their originals are so good you wonder they aren’t waaaay up the Folk & Americana Charts. They mix-in some traditional favorites with their splendid vocal harmonies and Steve’s fabulous Merle Travis-style picking. This will sell-out early, if word gets out well enough.

8 pm “AN EVENING WITH TODD RUNDGREN” at the Grammy Museum’s Clive Davis Sound Stage, 800 W Olympic Bl, L.A. 90015; www.grammymuseum.org; 213-765-6803.
Wait for it. This one has a serious blues connection. It’s a chance to hear Rundgren perform blues and engage in discussion about his prolific career as well as his current album, “Todd Rundgren's Johnson,” a tribute to British Invasion interpretations of legendary bluesman ROBERT JOHNSON's compositions.
Right off the heels of his summer tour, Rundgren remains rock's original Renaissance Man. An acclaimed record producer, composer, songwriter, and recording artist , Rundgren is widely regarded as the acknowledged godfather of the marriage of music and multimedia. Having founded and fronted The Nazz, the quintessential ’60s power-pop psychedelic band, in 1969 he left the band to pursue a solo career, recording his debut offering, the classic “Runt.” But it was 1972's seminal “Something/Anything?,” on which he played all the instruments, sang all the vocal parts, and acted as his own producer, that catapulted Todd into the superstar limelight. Among Rundgren's impressive 50+ production projects are albums by Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, Psychedelic Furs, XTC, Grand Funk Railroad, and Hall & Oates, and of course Meat Loaf's perennially multi-platinum debut "Bat Out Of Hell." After the interview, led by GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares Vice President Scott Goldman, Rundgren will take audience questions and perform a selection of songs.
Doors open at 7:30 pm for the best seats. Tix, $25, available starting Wednesday, June 22 at noon at the Museum Box Office. All proceeds benefit The GRAMMY Museum.

GRAMMY-nominated songwriter and composer Gary Lucas does an on-stage interview and performance. Regarded as a "thinking man's guitar hero,” Gary Lucas continues to catch the attention of critics everywhere, as he tours the world relentlessly, both solo and with several different ensembles. His longtime band Gods and Monsters, once included the late singer Jeff Buckley. After the interview, Lucas will take questions from the audience and perform a selection of songs. GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares Vice President Scott Goldman, himself a great guitarist, will conduct the interview as well as play a few tunes on stage with Lucas.
Doors open at 7:30 pm. Tix, $15. Tickets can be purchased at the Museum Box Office starting Wednesday, June 22 at noon. All proceeds benefit The GRAMMY Museum.
