Plenty of artists who came to town for NAMM are still playing (or looking for) local gigs, so this edition continues to bring our readers (NAMM attendees or not) a list of our picks for the best live local music.
Or maybe you're here this time because you're desperate to escape the State of the Union -- whether that means the speech or the actual state of national disunity is up to you.
So, joining our picks for live music this week and beyond, we offer a bit o' music news and MOON NEWS that's timely now and jus' won't wait.
The "really big shew" of our usual monthly mondo-mega-huge music news edition will be along soon -- this edition isn't that, so this one is much shorter than that'll be. But there's still enough here, if you pursue the music links within, to keep you busy long enough to avoid the SOTU speech. Or the supposedly opposition, but really the counterpart-corporate party's, response. Or you can avoid both, if you stretch a bit with some YouTube performances.

♪ A MOON like no one alive has ever seen -- TONIGHT (early tomorrow morning)
It's being called the "Super blue blood moon," and it's one of the rarest of celestial events that you can see with the naked eye. The term is an amalgamation of the names for three events that happen separately -- a blue moon, a super moon, and a blood moon -- and they combine early in this morning to create a moment not seen in the skies in more than 150 years.
This one is easy to describe, in terms of how to see it. Go outside and look at the Moon! Of course you need to time that foray properly. And if there are clouds or too much city light where you are, NASA is providing a live stream of the full event on their website.
The Guardian did a good job with this, so we'll quote: "A 'super blue blood moon' is the result of a blue moon -- the second full moon in a calendar month -- occurring at the same time as a super moon, when the moon is at perigee and about 14% brighter than usual, and a so-called blood moon -- the moment during a lunar eclipse when the moon, in the Earth’s shadow, takes on a reddish tint."
They also correctly reported, "The trifecta will take place on 31 January and will be best visible from the western hemisphere. The last time the three elements combined at the same time was in 1866."
You can read their entire feature story at:
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2018/jan/28/super-blue-blood-moon-stargazers-gear-up-for-rare-celestial-event
"Southern Living" magazine also did a nice job. Their feature is at:
https://www.southernliving.com/syndication/super-blue-blood-moon-january-31-where-to-watch
NASA is excited because this eclipse, being closer than normal, affords scientists their best opportunity to observe what happens when the surface of the moon cools quickly.
“The whole character of the moon changes when we observe with a thermal camera during an eclipse,” said Paul Hayne of the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics at the University of Colorado Boulder, as quoted in The Guardian. He continued, “In the dark, many familiar craters and other features can’t be seen, and the normally nondescript areas around some craters start to ‘glow’ because the rocks there are still warm.”
The eclipse will last about an hour and a quarter.
So, WHAT TIME do you go outside?
All of us on the West coast can start watching at 3:48 am PT. The best viewing will be between about 5:00 and 6:00 am local time, and the totality phase ends about 6:05 am. (If you're elsewhere reading this, the above links have specifics for watching from each US time zone, and for places in the Pacific Ocean region and Australia.)
And if you encounter interference and must settle for watching a glowing screen?
The live webcast is at: www.nasa.gov/live starting at 2:30 am Pacific.
And, no, despite the mainstream media playing Chicken Little about absolutely everything, there really is NO connection between politics and this super special Blood Moon. So, no need to go all medieval and hocus-pocusey when a lunar or any kind of celestial event occurs.

♪ Wed. Morning, Jan 31, WSM Broadcasts / Webcasts MEL TILLIS' Memorial Service
Broadcast from Ryman Auditorium on Wednesday morning, WSM will expand the audience of friends, family and fans of country music great MEL TILLIS, as the music world gathers to celebrate his life, music and legacy.
Over the course of his six-decade career, he wrote some of country music's most enduring songs, recorded six No. 1 singles and was inducted into both the "Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame" and the "Country Music Hall of Fame."
Tillis, a singer, songwriter, comedian and businessman, died Nov. 19 at the age of 85. He was laid to rest during a private burial in late November.
The memorial at The Ryman is free and open to the public. It is slated to begin, in Tennessee, at 10 am, ending about 11:30 am, Central Time.
THE WEBCAST IS THEREFORE AT 7 AM, ENDING ABOUT 8:30 AM, PACIFIC TIME.
The live radio broadcast in Nashville (and carried on affiliate radio stations) is on WSM at 650 on the AM dial, simulcast at wsmonline.com, and via the WSM mobile app.
That's www.wsmonline.com
A number of artists are slated to perform Tillis' music during the program, including ALISON KRAUSS, JAMEY JOHNSON, RICKY SKAGGS, COLLIN RAYE, DARYLE SINGLETARY, LORRIE MORGAN, IRA DEAN, RAY STEVENS, PAM TILLIS, SONNY TILLIS and CARRIE TILLIS.
Tillis' band, THE STATESIDERS (named after his 1966 single "Stateside"), will accompany select performances, and former "Nashville Now" host RALPH EMERY will emcee.
Quite a live event for a dead guy. No disrespect intended, but the irony is too obvious.
For more, including song links and the obituary in the Nashville "Tenessean" newspaper, there's plenty available at the WSM link, above.

♪ "BEST BLUEGRASS ALBUM" GRAMMY Goes to THE INFAMOUS STRINGDUSTERS
Group wins their first GRAMMY for their 2017 release "LAWS OF GRAVITY"
Yes, the 60th GRAMMY AWARDS went pretty much as we had foreseen in our special edition of the Guide. And of course, with only nine of the statuettes actually awarded during the TV broadcast, 'purt near all the ones in all the categories that Folk-Americana fans care about were awarded before the broadcast began its serial rap awards marathon by beginning with its excruciatingly overlong rap showcase.
That said, let's dwell on a happy moment.
THE INFAMOUS STRINGDUSTERS won for their January 2017 release "Laws Of Gravity," the first-ever Grammy Award for the band. The Stringdusters were all on hand in New York City to take home their award -- even if nobody could see it on TV. But if a New York City extravaganza dominated by an ever-growing number of rap and hip-hop awards categories seems a strange place to win the "Best Bluegrass Album" award, it didn't seem to affect the joy expressed by the band.
ANDY HALL (dobro), ANDY FALCO (guitar), CHRIS PANDOLFI (banjo), JEREMY GARRETT (fiddle), and TRAVIS BOOK (upright bass), released a statement expressing, "Winning this award was made even better by sharing the honor with RHONDA VINCENT."
"Cannot thank you all enough for being along for this ride!," said the band, in accepting during the part of early, pre-televised show when the few Folk and Americana GRAMMYs are awarded. A show which most of the world doesn't even know happens before the televised broadcast for the commercial pop and mostly "urban" categories.
The Stringdusters -- hailed for their incomparably tight yet improvisation-infused live shows -- are building on their growing fan base and momentum. They have won four International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards, and they had previously earned a "Best Country Instrumental" Grammy nomination in 2011 that contributed to their widespread critical acclaim.
This past Friday, the band announced the formation of their own new Tape Time Records label. But it isn't just a "house label for themselves. They announced the label's first signing, the acclaimed Americana group, HORSESHOES & HAND GRENADES.
The Stringdusters will resume their "Across The Great Divide" tour February 7 in Louisville, KY.

♪ MICK FLEETWOOD Spends GRAMMY Sunday at Morrison Hotel Gallery in NYC
With music's luminaries split between Southern california at the annual NAMM Show, and the 60th GRAMMY Awards in New York City, here's one side trip of note.
Turns out that Mick Fleetwood -- band founder, songwriter, drummer, and occasional vocalist from Fleetwood Mac -- is also an avid fan of music photography.
The band's members, honored together as Fleetwood Mac, received the MusiCares "Person of the Year" award on Saturday night at the organization's annual event, which, like this year's GRAMMYs, was in NYC.
During his trip to the Big Apple, Mick Fleetwood spent his Sunday afternoon with good friend, Morrison Hotel Gallery co-owner and founder, Peter Blachley. This was Fleetwood's first visit to the gallery's NYC location, and he and Blachley spent time talking, laughing and sharing stories while looking at some of the gallery's immense collection of archives from over 125 photographers.
The long-time friendship between Fleetwood and Blachley brought Morrison Hotel Gallery to "Fleetwood's General Store" in Maui, Hawaii, where a third gallery location opened in June of 2016, following the ones in NYC and Los Angeles.
Of course, the gallery's collection grew as a result, as Ken Bachor got photos of Fleetwood and Blachley going through the photo archives.
If you'd like to acquire some landmark music photographs, you can visit the L.A. location of the Morrison Hotel Gallery in the Sunset Marquis Hotel, 1200 Alta Loma Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90069. The hours are 10 am–7 pm Mon-Wed, 10 am-11 pm Thu-Sat, and 11 am-6 pm Sun. Good idea to call first, to be sure there isn't a special event closure: 310-881-6025.
Current exhibitions in L.A. include "Gerry Beckley's America: Shots From The Road," and Led Zeppelin Photographer Neal Preston's "Exhilarated and Exhausted," celebrating his new book & photos. Learn more at: https://www.morrisonhotelgallery.com/galleries/default.aspx

7 pm "THE BEST OF THE ROADHOUSE SET TWO - AFTER THE FLOOD" really does deserve that dramatic name, at the Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N Lake Altadena, CA; phone for reservations, (10 am-10 pm, 7 days), 626-798-6236.
* YES, THERE REALLY WAS A FLOOD AT THE VENUE, WITH AN AUDIENCE IN THE SEATS AND PERFORMERS ON THE STAGE. But the vessel has been re-floated.
* It was a night of history. On January 11th 2018, as the water came flooding into The Coffee Gallery Backstage, some of the finest artists in L.A. were on stage performing great American roots music for the 1st Anniversary show of "The Roadhouse Series." Little did anyone known, a busted water line on the avenue outside had caused water to rushed into the venue. As the first historic set was coming to an end and we drank the last of the musical waters, our Big Kahuna, Bob Stane, took to his canoe and, megaphone in hand, called out for evacuation, while the fire department broke down the doors. As a performer, writer, photographer, bestselling author, and songwriter, Paul Zollo described it on his Facebook page.
* Zollo wrote: "With Neil Rosengarden in the spirit of those valiant Titanic musicians, we would play till the end. We heard Bob Stane telling everyone to 'please evacuate now before you get electrocuted!' I yelled, in mid-song, 'Save yourself!' Something I so rarely say during a song. I loved how Neil Rosengarden - although we were going down with the ship quickly - played so beautifully! And he played the very last notes of the song “Whispering Hope” by The Band - as Bob Stane urged us to ‘STOP ALREADY!’"
* This was at the end of the first half of Terry Paul Roland's "Best of the Roadhouse" series, leaving Roland to say, "It was half of one of the best shows ever!"
* In the spirit of Americana determination and our ability to overcome articles, we will present 'The Best of The Roadhouse - Set Two: After the Flood.' Included in the festivities will be our fearless Captain Roberto Stane, to guide through the perilous waters of The Coffee Gallery Backstage as artists like our faithful host Patrick Carrico, Chad Watson, the Titanic Legends-Paul Zollo & Neil Rosengarden, Pam Loe, RJ Chesney, Emily Zuzik, Levi Petree, Kassidy Heal, Robbie Mangiardi, Eddie Hedges, and Dwight Payne re-group with life boats and great songs to bring us to shore with the second set of this historic show. Also along for the voyage will be other artists from the first set and those who were ill and escaped the perils of the January 11th Day of the Flood show.
* This is a full show with $10.00 discount coupons "for the survivors of the first set. Proceeds will go toward the fearless band and the water-logged venue via our Captain," say the producers.
* Venue impresario Bob Stane, in his inimitable style, says, "Just as a precaution, you may want to bring your swim suit!"
* Tix, if you were not there for the flood, are $20; those who boarded the lifeboats get $10 tix.

NEW FOR TODAY...
We're delaying our "Part 4" coverage of the NAMM Show and saving it for a wrap-up edition. That's because all our readers are not at the big rodeo in Anaheim, and those who are there will limit their time perusing exhibits on this final (and short) day there, anyway. Some, from exhaustion, after three very full days. Some, who journeyed from frozen regions, to enjoy the California sunshine before boarding the tin bird tomorrow. And many, because today's GRAMMY Awards telecast is early.
Indeed, it's the GRAMMYs that dominate all the entertainment coverage today — online, in the show biz sections of the newspapers, and in today's conversations among musicians.
So editorializing on that subject — The GRAMMYs — is our single story today.
+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+
♪ 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards Presentations
This year, the GRAMMYS are in New York City instead of L.A., and unlike too many past years, the West Coast will get the live broadcast without waiting three hours, 'til after it happened.
The live TV broadcast is on CBS at 4:30 pm Pacific, repeating in prime time at 8 pm. For those that want to see which of those infatuated with "being seen" spent entirely too much money on goofy clothing, CBS offers a Red Carpet show / GRAMMYs Preview, at 3:30 pm Pacific.
Of course, the Recording Academy has long billed the GRAMMY Awards as "Music's Biggest Night." All of us in the Folk-Americana world cringe when we hear that. Because the deck is soooo stacked in favor of ever-growing additional awards for rap, hip-hop, and the so-called R&B that, these days, provides cover for more of the first two.
And because voting memberships in the Recording Academy are routinely bought for every employee in big corporate entertainment conglomerates? Those voting are, too often, people whose jobs are wholly unreleated to music, and they are simply "encouraged" not to bite the employer's hand that feeds them.
And because — to the ridiculously limited extent that the GRAMMYS include "our" multiplicity of music genres at all — our best artists are inexcusably lumped together. Thus, they are grossly underrepresented, crammed into the few contrived categories where they might qualify. We've covered this many times, in detail, and discussed the lack of inclusiveness practiced by the Recording Academy. So we'll keep it brief for this go 'round on the 60th anniversary of the GRAMMYS.
To wit: when Cajun and zydeco are competing with New England fiddle and ukulele artists and sea chanties; and all those folks are competing in the same category with labor organizing and non-rap protest songs; with traditional cowboy-western music; with accordion-driven Southwest borderlands; with songs of the Great Lakes and the railroads and the decaying ribbons of superhighways; with songs of the coal mines and the few remaining steel mills and heavy industrial jobs; with songs that invoke a hopeful future of solar and wind and tidal energy; with songs that celebrate achievement by persons of color and women who overcome oppression in the workplace; with songs critical of politicians and banksters who ignore global climate change and economic disparity and corporate control of absolutely everything; with songs that question why any kind of imposed conventional "wisdom" should be accepted at all; and with a great many more artists whose vital, continuously evolving, traditional music forms of expression, born of past ethnic roots and places of settlement — music forms and genres performed on acoustic and traditional instruments that produce virtuosos of instrumental mastery, movingly passionate voice, stellar writing and stunning performances — are all force-fitted into competing for a single GRAMMY for "Best Regional Album — then the disparity is scandalous.
Of course, some will watch the GRAMMYS no matter what.
There will be a nice moment when NEIL DIAMOND receives his well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Grammy. And we expect a full-production tribute to him and to Sir ELTON JOHN, since both just announced their retirements from touring and live performance. Two artists, who, by any measure, have spent decades among the absolute best live concert acts in the world.
And, for the fans of the more youthful artists, some folkies and acoustic music fans will be particularly interested in these awards because ED SHEERAN is nominated in two categories. And whatever you think of the merits of his music, he IS a global phenomenon who performs on an acoustic guitar, and he seems to be an unassuming nice guy. Nothing wrong with either of those traits. Even if his vocal talents are quite thin and his music is rather annoying.
Beyond that? Sure, we could list all the nominees in all the categories, as we've done in past years. But why, when we've said everything that needed saying, and the lists are easily available using your (hopefully non-Google) browser.
That warrants a quick aside...
If you just said "Huh?!" to that last part, about using a "non-Google browser"-? Consider our long track record of (a) supporting the innovative art of talented indie artists; (b) celebrating human achievement, creativity, and forums that reward human potential; and, most relevant here, (c) "outing" the big corporate syndicates who engage in Borg-like assimilation of labels and proceed to drop artists because those artists don't do soundalike pop crap.
Percolate and cogitate a moment on that. And you'll have an idea why we oppose megagiant corporate pandemic empires of cyberspying and data-selling who laugh at the notion of anyone having a right to privacy, and who use their octopus tentacles to strangle all they do not own. Google may have entered history's tableau a bit late for the year 1984, but we steadfastly oppose their relentless efforts to enrich their empire by invoking George Orwell's version of it, now or at any time.
Oh. Did we say we had a quick aside? That was it. Enjoy the GRAMMYs.

NAMM — Part Two of the Guide's Coverage — plenty of fresh content on Day Two.
Whether or not you're at NAMM, if you're involved in music, you care about it. Here at the Guide, we bring you a different focus each day of NAMM — things that you'll want to read even if you're not there, because NAMM is where all the innovations are announced and demonstrated.
On Friday, an all-star line-up from Yamaha promises an unforgettable multi-artist extravaganza with the “Yamaha All-Star Concert on the Grand 2018” set to crank-up the volume to 11. With the concert performers still under wraps, the evening promises a dazzling array of seasoned performers to delight The NAMM Show audience. Past performers at Yamaha’s annual NAMM event include luminaries such as ELTON JOHN, STEVIE WONDER, TONY BENNETT, JOHN LEGEND, EARTH, WIND & FIRE, U2 founder and drummer LARRY MULLEN, JR., and many others.
Yesterday we gave you a look at how massively huge this is. We did that with our picks for (a) things happening in the first half-hour of the enormous NAMM Show, and (b) live performances — just our picks — for the entire first day. As enormous as that was, it was just a small percentage of everything going on at the largest music industry trade show on the planet.
Today, we focus on another aspect of NAMM.

* Sunday NAMM performance & event schedule
Re those links? Be prepared to see far more than we featured yesterday, when we brought you JUST OUR PICKS. These links are EVERYTHING that was announced in advance.
But be aware, many exhibitor booths host LIVE MUSIC PERFORMANCES that they don't announce anywhere except at their booth. Often, you can copy from a secret list that they'll show you if you behave well. So make the rounds of the exhibitors to see their new products, test-drive their instruments or gear, AND catch the great performances by their endorsed and sponsored artists. Considering that folks like Stevie Wonder always pop-in to play some keyboard and sing a few hits, it's rather obvious why all performances are not published in the big schedule.
WE RECOMMEND that, each day, you go ask who is playing at Deering Banjo, Saga Instruments, Santa Cruz Guitars, Luna, Gibson, Taylor, at the booths on "Ukulele Row," and at Shubb Capos, and for the pianophiles, go to Yamaha and Roland — those places, at the very least, and plan to make the rounds of those booths each morning to see their list of the day's performances. And hey, just the trek to get from one to another is a full morning workout, and unlike the smelly and boring gym, you're sure to find happy distractions along the way.

observations...
ONE OF LIFE'S IRONIES
Conventional wisdom holds that everybody stays home in January because they're trying to pay-off all the Christmas shopping bills. But that never applies to musicians, since we're all too broke to have spent much on the holidays, anyway. And most of us know we need to save-up for the enormous annual NAMM show, the music industry's biggest trade show in the world, which comes to Anaheim for four jam-packed days (with nighttime concerts) not just right now, but EVERY January. If you live close enough to make the drive each day and save the hotel bills, that's another reason for living in Southern California.
And when it comes to going anywhere in Southern California, we're not exactly frozen to the ground like the whole East Coast was all last week — though we live mudslides that are an issue when it rains, now that the "new normal" of climate change means frequent droughts, too damn many wildfires, and scorched masses of stuff that travels downhill, suddenly and rapidly, when it gets saturated with a sudden and infrequent rain. But all that said, our temps are in the 60s and 70s Fahrenheit in these parts.
And whether or not you have a badge to attend NAMM, there's lots of good stuff happening — and staying tuneful is the cure for 'purt near everything.
Now, let's get to the exhibit hall floors!

♪ NAMM — Things to See and Do at the Giant Music Trade Show
We'll break the rules of newspaper journalism and start with the context, before NAMM opened this week.
Hot on the heels of trends displayed at the annual CES in Las Vegas, it was clear that this year includes more of a crossover effect to be felt at NAMM than we're used to seeing. We'll get, in a moment, to what that means for the gear. Because the overall fact is cultural. The best example we can offer? The tech world's characteristic infatuation with change went so far at CES that the press was strongly admonished not to call CES by its full name, the Consumer Electronics Show. Though the "why" was never made clear. Through various smarmy-superior comments, facial tics, and body language, it was left to everyone attending CES to decide they would not be allowed to sit at the cool kids table if they didn't pretend to "get" the smarmy-superior techno-nerd crap.
Of course, CES always has some momentum from the realm of technogeek that impacts music recording and production and configuration of stage setups for each year's coming concert tour and big music festival season. And given the inscrutable popularity of roboticized human voices in pop music in recent years — along with a whole genre of cringeworthy electrocution electronica — there are those limited areas of the NAMM exhibit halls where you just don't wanna go without industrial ear muffs.
But let's not get lost in all that. There is a gear-specific techno-aspect that was glaringly evident at CES:
Almost no new and upcoming models of any electronic devices have jacks for earphones or anything else to do with by-wire sound. When it comes to everythingh new that's being marketed as consumer electronic products — and to quite a share of what's represented as new industry standards for video and audio production — it's all wireless now. And the clear message is, if you are not equipped with the proper accessories to adapt, you're s.o.l.
Whether the music industry got the memo, we don't yet know, so that's one thing for all of us to keep in mind as we peruse manufacturers' booths and check-out new gear this week and weekend at NAMM.
What were the advance clues? We were receiving an inordinate amount of invitations from exhibitors who seek to lure us to their booths with promises of their newest innovations in EDM. If you don't know that abbreviation, it's understandable for all us Folk-Americana types. It stands for "electronica dance music." Yeah, we join you in the chorus of "ewwwww."
Of course we look forward to visiting with friends from the world of keeping music real. So we'll see what's up with Deering Banjo, Santa Cruz Guitars, our friends at the competing capo makers at Shubb and Kyser, the ukulele makers from Hawai'i, the global representation of mic and monitor and stage light and sound mix makers, and of course the big folks who still hand craft beautiful instruments at Martin and Gibson. And we're sure to ogle some Italian-made mandolins and some Appalachian dulcimers, and plenty more. (Make that too-much-more, as always.)
Not that we eschew electronic gear that makes acoustic and tradition music and Americana performances and recordings sound as good as when we're sitting three feet from the perfomers and everything is un-mik'ed. So, yes, we'll likely catch Academy Award®-winning sound designer and mixer Mark Mangini to hear about Dolby Atmos® and sound for film, at the Avid Booth and stage (15501). And lots more from a vast variety of exhibitors.
As for performances? There are main stage shows outdoors on the courtyard and a second stage outside the convention center's basketball arena, plus two stages in the adjacent hotels. Just outside the exhibit hall, in the lower lobby, the Museum of Making Music has a stage. Inside the halls, many exhibitors have scheduled performances from their endorsed artists, and it pays to make the rounds and take notes early, before you arrive half an hour after someone you'd have bought tickets to hear from 50 rows back has left the place where you could have seen and heard them from five or ten feet away. And the evening shows are major events, after standing up all day and being nomadic in the exhibit halls in the convention center and the surrounding hotels. Many of those evening shows require tickets, which often can be acquired free by visiting sponsor booths.
Even by the second day, the latenight concerts and jams complicate getting in line early for the "official" breakfast sessions, with their superb programs, speakers, and performances. But somehow, we all do it on two or three hours sleep for each of the four days, because it's NAMM, it's soooo worth it, and it's a whole year before we get another shot at being that overwhelmed by all the new innovations and enduring talent.

IK Multimedia, Hammond USA and Suzuki Music Corp. of Japan announce Leslie for AmpliTube and T-RackS on Mac/PC
Breakthrough technology offers ultra-realistic modeling to provide players and producers the best-sounding digital Leslie amps and cabs ever
___
January 26, 2018 - Just yesterday ay NAMM, IK Multimedia announced a new collaboration with the product designers and R&D Team at Hammond USA and Suzuki Music Corp. of Japan. Their new collaboration will bring "the truly authentic sound of the legendary Leslie® amps and cabinets to the leading guitar amp and effects software, AmpliTube, and to the world class mixing and mastering processors in T-RackS."
AmpliTube Leslie and T-RackS Leslie offer the authentic sounds of 5 Leslie amps and 6 Leslie rotary-speaker cabinets that can be used for recording or playing live. Microphone distance and position control, precise level balancing, different amp and cab combinations, circuit overdriving, width, acceleration and deceleration control of the rotary speaker, horn/drum balance and more are included to give tracks the shimmer, charm, growl and character that are an unmistakable part of the Leslie sound.
Hammond USA Executive Vice President Peter Nguyen says, "We are pleased to work with IK Multimedia in bringing the authentic Leslie sound to their AmpliTube and T-RackS software suites. We believe they are the right company to accurately and faithfully deliver the timeless and classic Leslie tone on a digital platform."
The Leslie spokesman added, "There are many rotary speaker emulations. There's just one Leslie®."
With the combination of what IK asserts as its own "breakthrough technologies of Dynamic Interaction Modeling™, which can reproduce the subtlest interactions of an electronic circuit down to its tiniest component, together with Volumetric Response Modeling™, which recreates the real acoustic behavior of rotary-speaker cabinets," the goal of the IK and Hammond teams was to deliver "the true Leslie speaker sound without compromise."
Leslie — through its AmpliTube Leslie and T-RackS Leslie — claim to have "the distinct advantage over others with the circuit-modeled amplifiers that are critical to recreating the signature tone of these incredible units, especially when overdriving the amp circuit, typical of genres like rock and blues."
There are 5 amp models included: Leslie Type 147, Leslie Type 122 - vintage tube model; Leslie Type 122A - new tube model; Leslie 3300w - new hybrid amp and the Leslie G-37/Studio 12 - new hybrid amp.
In addition, all the speaker cabinets are faithfully reproduced using IK's "exclusive Volumetric Response Modeling™ technology," which is a combination of a new approach to impulse response recording, and what they say is "the best modeling technology currently available."
There are 6 rotary speaker models included: Leslie Type 147, 122, 122A; Leslie 3300w, Leslie G-37, Leslie Studio 12.
With this collaboration, they tell us, "Everything is under control." Here's how:
* The virtual microphones in AmpliTube Leslie and T-RackS Leslie can be repositioned.
* This affects the perception the listener will have of the rotation, or standard "doppler effect."
* Users can choose between a 90° mic position, which is the most common — giving a non-symmetric perception of the rotation — to the 180° mic position — which is less common — but heard on many famous recordings where it gives a more symmetric perception of the rotation.
* It is also possible to move the "virtual microphones" closer or farther from the cabinet for even greater realism when recording.
* There is a full parametric EQ to further shape the sound to fit a variety of musical ideas even better.
Changing the rotation speed of the horn and drum is also possible allowing users to adjust the range of speed from slowest to fastest for their ideal performance settings. Plus, it's possible to change the acceleration and deceleration speeds to control how quickly the speaker goes from "chorale" (slow) to "tremolo" (fast).
At NAMM, where instrument and gear dealers need all the info, there is a need to anounce "Pricing and availability."
* AmpliTube Leslie and T-RackS Leslie are expected to ship in March, 2018 and will be priced at $/€129.99* each.
* The Leslie Collection, which combines the AmpliTube and T-RackS versions, will be priced at $/€179.99.
* Upon release, the individual amps will also be available separately for $/€24.99 each.
* The cabinets will be available for $/€34.99 each.

* A single amp and cabinet, purchased together, will be priced at $/€49.99.

♪ The ACOUSTIC AMERICANA MUSIC GUIDE endeavors to bring you NEWS — and views of interest to artists everywhere — more specifically to musicians and the creative community and music makers and fans of acoustic and Folk-Americana music. That includes both traditional and innovative forms. From the deepest roots to today’s acoustic renaissance, that’s our beat. We provide a wealth of resources, including a HUGE catalog of acoustic-friendly venues (now undergoing a major update), and inside info on FESTIVALS and select performances in Southern California in venues from the monumentally large to the intimately small and cozy. We cover workshops, conferences, and other events for artists and folks in the music industry, and all kinds o’ things in the world of acoustic and Americana and accessible classical music. From washtub bass to musical spoons to oboe to viola to banjo to squeezebox, from Djangostyle to new-fangled-old-time string band music, from sweet Cajun fiddle to bluegrass and pre-bluegrass Appalachian mountain music to all the swamp water roots of the blues and the bright lights of where the music is headed now.
