Summer's near! Festivals & Concerts, EVENTS-ONLY edition, May 1 2022

WHAT a weekend to end April! Two FREE events  --

☆ ArtNight Pasadena returns Friday

☆ The South Pasadena Eclectic Music Festival is back Saturday

☆ Plus, we have a link for you to watch live performances from Stagecoach, all weekend

☆ and CONCERTS, club gigs, and more FESTIVALS, on into summer and autumn are within, awaiting you!

The vast universe of LIVE MUSIC PERFORMANCES and FESTIVALS is reawakening at lightning fast pace.

We kept going back into our previous edition and adding more and more to the EVENTS WRITEUPS. But that edition is so packed with NEWS FEATURES, it was taking a ridiculous amount of time to add anything, so we threw in the towel with adding more there. Still, remember it's just over yonder to go back and read the news stories

And now, YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE for all the latest EVENTS, in this "events-only" edition! Things are happening as soon as today/tonight, and on into the coming summer! Don't suffer FOMO / FOMS*. No need to.

Welcome!

* - that's the Fear Of Missing Out and the Fear of Missing Something.

With no further ado, let's get started!

Rare opportunities like this don't come around very often. Now's your chance to own a piece of Joni's art and do a fair bit of good while you are it. Joni's partnered with MusiCares® to put up hand-signed and individually-numbered prints of her oil painting of Jimi Hendrix. An edition of just 20, the print features Hendrix with angel wings, setting his guitar on fire at The Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 – although Joni says she “prefers to think of him in Heaven.”

STAGECOACH 2022 Music Festival
at the Polo fields in Indio

WATCH LIVE ONLINE starting Apr 29 at 3 pm, at:

https://m.youtube.com/user/stagecoach

Granted, the live webcast is most likely to bring you pop-country Nashvulle acts, instead of the Folk-Americana stars on the two "B" stages where they perform.

Tix TO ATTEND in person are STILL AVAILABLE. The hugely expensive VIP tier tix are all sold-out (they went for $829-$1299) but gen'l adm weekend passes are still available for $399 + fees.

STAGECOACH features plenty of perqs. Most necessary of those is the "Any Line Shuttle Pass." Shuttles offer the easiest transportation to and from a number of local hotels and the far-flung park & ride locations.

A single wristband grants access to the festival for all three (3) days. You may wander from stage to stage and experience other activities including the HONKYTONK DANCE HALL, HALF-PINT HOOTENANNY for kids, delicious BBQ and more.

    Other amenities include:
Ample Shaded Rest Areas; Free Water Refill Stations; Hundreds of Food Vendors; Wide Beer Selection & Full Bars; Extensive Restroom Facilities (incl. Flushing Toilets); Free Phone Charging Stations.

Here are the lineups, by day and stage:
Plus, there's the BUD LIGHT SELTZER SESSIONS:

Friday
2:10pm Reyna Roberts
4:40pm Laci Kaye Booth
5:55pm Travis Denning
DJ Set By Chachi

Saturday
2:10pm Caylee Hammack
4:40pm Mitchell Tenpenny
5:55pm Shy Carter
DJ Set By Disko Cowboy

Sunday
2:00pm Hailey Whitters
4:00pm Flatland Cavalry
5:15pm Lindsay Ell
DJ Set By Tiana Verhagen

Yes, the world-class Budweiser Clydesdales are also there, at the nearby resort.

New to the festival are California’s homegrown COMPTON COWBOYS. They are ten Black riders on horseback whose small ranch is one of the very last in a formerly semi rural area of Compton -- and they are bringing their horses to Stagecoach to tell their story and share in the experience.
You can take in the breathtaking birdseye views from the top of the FERRIS WHEEL. This popular marriage proposal site is busiest at sunset. Take your sweetie for a whirl! Additional cost per ride.
GUY FIERI'S STAGECOACH SMOKEHOUSE runs daily, as does the IKON PASS LOUNGE (accessible to all attendees), and YEEHAW, the spacious and shaded structure in the lobby next to the ferris wheel, it features the Horseshoe Stage (we don't know the lineup on that one.)

We'll let Phil Ward describe this one:

"The Eclectic is back! This is definitely one of my favorite things about living in Southern California. At the Eclectic Music Festival in South Pasadena, you get 65 acts on 13 stages, all walkable and all free. Hard to believe, but I swear it's true. I'll be there, moving from venue to venue and clapping like a madman. Take the Metro Gold Line right into the heart of it, or park anywhere on the outskirts of downtown South Pasadena and walk in. See you there?"

Jeanne Cherhal performs "Cinema"
Theatre Raymond Kabbaz, 10361 W Pico Bl, Los Angeles, CA 90064
310-286-0553
Performing solo with a piano, Cherhal interprets songs that marked generations of moviegoers
, and takes us on a nostalgic musical tour of French and European cinema.
Cherhal has become a force of contemporary French music, known for her vivacious live shows evoking  French chansons and cabaret. Her quirky piano style and forays into the experimental, showcase what some listeners identify as the evident influence of Tori Amos or Bjork.
This is not a playlist of hit songs, but rather a poetic evocation of cinema from a byegone era, a playlist of celebrated songs composed by the likes of Serge Gainsbourg (Sous le Soleil Exactement for the film Anna), a song sung by Catherine Deneuve (Recette pour un cake d’amour for the film Peau d’Âne), Parle Plus Bas by Dalida, Pul Marine by Isabelle Adjani, and so many more.

Note: some festivals and other major events got their own feature stories in the previous edition, and try as we might, we did NOT get all of them "double listed" in this edition of events-only listings. So, a spin through the FEATURE STORIES in the previous edition would be a good idea to prevent FOMS from setting in.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

"War, at first, is the hope that one will be better off;
next, the expectation that the other fellow will be worse off;
then, the satisfaction that he isn't any better off;
and, finally, the surprise at everyone's being worse off."

It's all there, since we first moved The Guide (with its former name) to Blogspot.

Does that mean you need to find Marty and Doc's DeLorean time machine?

Because, geez, THAT was back when Rin-Tin-Tin hadn't gotten his second "tin" from Tin Pan Alley

... and you watched TV on a big box that bombarded you with non-ionizing radiation from its cathode ray tube if you sat close to it, instead of like nowadays, getting your inescapable non-ionizing radiation from 5g, wherever you sit

... and

... and "the pandemic" meant 1918

... and Rudy Giuliani was "America's Mayor" instead of a babbling portable meltdown of brown ooze

... and "trump" was something that only happened in a card game, instead of being garishly emblazoned on buildings that go bankrupt (before it became a synonym for grifter college, grifter steaks, cultist wackos, deadly violent attempted coups at the Capitol, and banishment from polite society)

... anyway, The Guide has been around a LOOOOONNNNNGGGG time! So you can escape into the musical wonderments of this current edition, AND/OR you can go far enough back to escape whatever is the current lunacy du jour, and explore MANY THOUSANDS of feature stories, musical explorations, band and artist descriptions, and assorted fascinating items we have published through the years for your perusal and enjoyment.

HINT: We often get feedback like this regarding the archive:

"We were talking about how we first met. We disagreed about who was playing that night. We were pretty distracted by each other. So we deep dived in your archive and we found everything about that night!!! It even let us figure out a bunch of our important dates--most of them were musical and it sure was fun to relive those times!!!"
