May 6 & 7, 2017:
18th annual "FULLERTON RAILROAD DAYS" festival at the Fullerton Transportation Center (Amtrak's old Santa Fe Ry station), 120 E Santa Fe Av, Fullerton, CA 92832; http://fullertontrainmuseum.org/railroad-days

✔ THE SCENE: The real star this year at the two-day, 9 am-5 pm festival, is the appearance of a large, operating steam locomotive: former Santa Fe 4-8-4 "Northern" type, number 3751. There are historic and model train displays, lots of food options, and more. Amtrak is sending commemorative "Veterans Locomotives;" BNSF® Railway will have cab tours of a modern diesel locomotive; Metrolink will display commuter train equipment; Disneyland is sending the "Cyrus K. Holliday" steam locomotive # 1 that pulled trainloads of visitors around the park for decades; "Carolwood Foundation / Walt's Barn" will display large scale rail cars from Walt Disney's own railroad that he ran on his estate; SCRPA will display three vintage cabooses, one each from the Santa Fe, Southern Pacific and Union Pacific, and two 1949 Union Pacific passenger train lounge cars. The official promo says, "For the 18th year, the Southern California Railway Plaza Association (SCRPA) is producing their free community event honoring the region’s historic connections to railroads. Volunteers and sponsors are coming together to create another fantastic weekend for families and rail fans of all ages. This year promises to be bigger and better than ever with a fantastic lineup of featured participants, model train layouts, vendors and community groups. The excitement is increasing as the event draws near."
