The Washington Post describes VAGABOND OPERA as “A band of ceaseless charisma, boundless energy, impeccable musicianship and more than a little touch of both the naughty and exotic.” The group delivers passionate offerings of Bohemian cabaret for young and old. Paris hot jazz, gut bucket swing, tangos, Ukrainian folk-punk ballads, klezmer and vigorous originals meet a world of riverboat gambling queens, Turkish belly dancers, and the enigmatic Marlene Dietrich. You heard them live on radio’s “Tied to the Tracks.” More at www.vagabondopera.com

CONJUNTO LOS POCHOS is Los Angeles Tex Mex at its best. Conjunto Los Pochos has lived this music at dance halls, weddings, concerts and a variety of venues from the Eastside to the Westside, throughout Southern California and across the country. Their original song, “Margie’s,” earned a “Listener Favorite” on radio’s “Tied to the Tracks.” Formed in the summer of 1997, the four-piece ensemble began with Otoño Luján and Elliott Baribeault. The ensemble specializes in conjunto music, a small-group dance music driven by accordion and bajo sexto.
+
Today, “Los Pochos” presents a genuine L.A. expression of traditional conjunto music to a steadily-growing audience that cuts across race, nationality and social status. The band's name initially came about to address the perceived peculiarity of a bunch of [primarily] acculturated Mexicans (Pochos), barely speaking Spanish and playing "Norteño" music (border music from Northern Mexico). Ironically though, this music -- having stemmed from the merging of European and Texas-Mexican cultures in the late 1800's -- continues to reflect the process of Pochismo (or acculturation) through its lyrics and music. Louisiana’s FEUFOLLET was formed in 1995 when accordionist/singer Chris Stafford was 8 and fiddler Chris Segura was 11. Feufollet quickly became known as one of the most exciting Cajun bands in Acadiana, not because of their youth but because of their obvious musical ability and the vivacity with which they approached the traditional music of the area. They played the “Millpond Festival” last fall, and are part of the reason why that festival was named among the “Top Ten / Best of 2008” in FolkWorks. And they delighted crowds in May when they played the “Simi Valley Cajun Creole Festival.” More at www.feufollet.net

GEE RABE, an accordionist since 1975, has won major awards for her performances, including the Accordion Federation of North America's “Virtuoso Western Classical” and “Virtuoso Jazz” competitions in 1984 and 1985 respectively. Ms. Rabe is diverse in her performance styles and currently performs with VAUD AND THE VILLAINS (folk / blues / zydeco) and the HABERDASHERY QUARTET (chamber jazz / Gypsy jazz / tango / Balkan). In 2007, she was the accordionist in the Getty Villa production "Tug of War" which was selected by the Los Angeles Times as one of the top ten productions of the year.
+
The pre-show party starts at 5:30 pm with GEE RABE, L.A.'s Accordion Diva, playing on the plaza.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS / RULES for the ticket giveaway:
+
1) “Tied to the Tracks” and the “Acoustic Americana Music Guide,” in association with the L.A. Accordion Festival, is offering a FREE PAIRS OF TICKETS for two days, Thursday, June 25 and Friday, June 26, to see “SQUEEZEFEST L.A. -- THE L.A. ACCORDION FESTIVAL” at the Ford Amphitheatre on Sunday, June 28.
+
2) On each of those two days, just after 12 Noon, a daily question will be posted at both http://acousticamericana.blogspot.com and http://community.nodepression.com/profile/TiedtotheTracks
(The same question will be posted, as close as possible to the same time each day, on both websites.)
+
3) Each day, a different question will ask a question related to the accordion or to the artists performing, or something about the music careers of one of the four groups of artists performing in “SQUEEZEFEST L.A. -- THE L.A. ACCORDION FESTIVAL” at the Ford Amphitheatre on Sunday, June 28.
+
4) The questions may be easy or difficult. Some may require digging, but the answer to each can be found by doing research on the web. Of course, big fans of the accordion or the artists may already know the answer, and have a key advantage based on knowledge they already possess. Each question will be written by Larry Wines, and he shall be the sole judge of each question’s correct answer and of the winner of each of the five pairs of tickets. NO ONE will be given hints, clues, answers or other information prior to the public release of each day’s question.
+
5) The winner of each pair of tickets will be determined by the first correct answers to the day’s question, as received at tiedtothetracks@hotmail.com, up to the maximum number of tickets to be given away that day (two pairs on Thursday, three pairs on Friday). Exception: after winning a pair of tickets in this giveaway, a winner is ineligible to win a second pair in this giveaway.
+
6) Each winner, upon notification he or she has won, must provide their first and last name and complete address as it appears on the government-issued photo i.d. that they will use to claim their tickets.
+
7) Winners agree to allow their name and the name of the town where they live (not their complete address) to be used publicly in connection with any and all publicity and promotion deriving from the ticket giveaway, and each winner agrees to send a post-performance comment about the show, by email, for use by “Tied to the Tracks,” the “Acoustic Americana Music Guide,” the L.A. Accordion Festival, and/or the Ford Amphitheatre.
+
8) Upon receiving confirmation of the required i.d. information and the winner’s statement of acceptance of each of these terms and intention to attend the concert, that pair of tickets (of the seven pairs) will be placed for pickup at Will-Call at the Ford Amphitheatre, for pick-up on the evening of the performance, Sunday, June 28, 2009; receiving the pair of tickets requires showing a government-issued photo i.d. with information matching that sent by the winner (see Rule #6).
+
9) Should a winner be unable or be deemed unable, for any reason, to accept the pair of tickets, the first correct answer received at tiedtothetracks@hotmail.com after their correct answer was received will win that pair of tickets.
+
+
GOOD LUCK, and start learning about the accordion and the music careers of each of the three headlining groups!
