Saturday, July 7 - Last-Minute Event, and MORE

.
In addition to all the events we've already published - the opening of the USS Iowa as a museum in San Pedro, the concert tonight at the Caltech Folk Music Society, and a whole lot more - late word arrived of a wonderful day of music up in the high desert. Here it is...
.
Today, Saturday, July 7, at Wee Vill Market, 18348 W. Ave. D, 661-724-3001, northwest of Lancaster about 18 mi, east of I-5 about 12 mi. on Hwy 138. It's a "CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF ERIC WHITE," the late bluegrass maestro, with ROLAND WHITE in attendance, flying-in from back east, for a day of food, jamming, singing, and remembrance.
.
This is an event for everyone who likes that toe-tappin, can't-hold-still, gimme-that-old-time-feeling kind of music. Bring an instrument if you think you might like to jam. Jim Olesh, WeeVill owner, wants everyone invited.
.
THE EVENT STARTS AT A SPECIAL TIME, going from 11 am until 9:ish pm. Bring a lawn chair or two in case the picnic tables all fill up. Tri-tip BBQ and a full menu available. More details at www.weevillmarket.com
.
In addition, they'll have their Sunday Open Jam from 4 to 9 PM.
.
Eric was a founding member of the Country Boys and the Kentucky Colonels, along with his brothers, the incomparable flatpicker Clarence White and the simply amazing Roland White
.
Clarence tragically left us far too early back in the 1970's, but Roland is coming across the country and bringing his mandolin! Martin Guitars named a model of their guitars after Clarence because they hold his music in such high esteem!

With the passing of Andy Griffith this week, it's even a bit more bittersweet. Some of you may remember seeing Eric, Roland, and Clarence playing with "Sheriff Andy Taylor" on the show.
.
.
IF YOU ARE NEAR SAN PEDRO, INSTEAD, today's grand ppening of the battleship Iowa includes a fly-over at noon of three historic airplanes from the era when the ship was launched: a B-25, a P-40 (of "Flying Tigets" fame), and a P-51 Mustang. The planes will approach over the Vincent Thomas Bridge and make two passes.
.
.
THERE'S PLENTY OF MUSIC THIS WEEKEND! See the Guide's June 3030 edition (below or via the menu at left, depending on which edition you are reading...)
