Feature # 1:
. √  Acoustic Benefit for Paraquat Kelley is Dec 14

“Mighty Met Acoustic Flashback Benefit for Paraquat Kelley” brings many music stars on Sun, Dec 14, to the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills.
+
Featured artists – all performing acoustically – include George Thorogood, Janiva Magness, Prescott Niles, Dan Navarro, Michael-Ann Azoulai, Kiki Ebsen, Paul Barrere (Little Feat), Bill Champlin (Chicago), Waddy Wachtel, Christina LaRocca, Julian Shah-Tayler, Riley Biederer, Peter Stroud, Lantz Lazwell, and more. Do you remember KMET, that uniquely wild and wonderful L.A. radio station that was quite simply the greatest radio station in the world in its time? (And may still be the greatest that ever was?) Well Whoo-ya to ya!
+
PATRICK “PARAQUAT” KELLEY was a pivotal person in rock history, and key figure in the craziness, good times, and socially and politically influential content that accompanied great music, live performance-interviews, pyrotechnic ambush explosions in the studio. He wrote and delivered the weekly “Fish Report with a Beat” and “Dirk Canyon, M.D” (the satire of every soap opera that ever was, and the place that introduced the legendary “Doctor Leon” – abba-loot-lee), and so much more. Now, Paraquat is suffering from MS, a severe debilitating disease, and he and his wife need our help to defray his huge medical expenses. So former KMET air staffers JIM LADD, CYNTHIA FOX, and JEFF GONZER are joining lots of musicians in a big benefit for their friend and former colleague. If you remember that wonderfully wacky counter-culture that was KMET, here’s your chance to re-live it for a night and do some good for one who brought us all so much unique and memorable entertainment during a previous era of dark political times.
+
A silent auction is part of the event. Among the donated items is an autographed personal guitar donated by Richie Sambora.
+
100% of the proceeds from this event, the silent auction, and ancillary funds raised will go directly to Pat's medical bills. For Pat and his wife Melody, these are  a “tsunami of medical expenses” related to Pat's ongoing battle with MS.
+

+
Paraquat's wife, Melody, says, “We are so excited...Pat is going to be there....it is very hard for him to get out of the house...but he will be there. He is just so thrilled and feels so honored...we both do !!! Thank you all and we'll see you at the event December 14…”
+
The event is at 7:30 pm at the Canyon Club in Agoura. Tix now available at the venue and at Ticketmaster; prices range from $29 to $58. C’mon folks: it’s a one-time ACOUSTIC show with real stars, and a BENEFIT.

Feature # 2:
. √  RHINO OFFERS A ONE-DEAL (today) ON HISTORIC BODY OF WORK

TONY JOE WHITE, "SWAMP MUSIC: THE COMPLETE MONUMENT YEARS"

Today only discount for “Day 7” of the “12 Days of Rhino”

Tony Joe White was raised on a cotton farm in Goodwill, Louisiana. Swamp country. His parents played country and gospel at church, but the blues were Tony Joe's calling. Years later, White's "Rainy Night In Georgia" would be immortalized as a hit by Brook Benton. But let's not forget the magical material he recorded under his own name – “BLACK AND WHITE,...CONTINUED,” and “TONY JOE.”

This remastered four-CD Rhino Handmade boxed set has 81 TRACKS, numbered and limited to 5,000 copies, contains all three of White's Monument albums in their entirety. Also included are a slew of unreleased tracks, including ten 1969 Paris sessions and seven live performances from the Isle of Wight.

"One day my brother brought home an album by Lightnin' Hopkins, and that was it for me," says White in the liner notes to this release. "That's when I started grabbing dad's guitar and shutting myself in the bathroom or bedroom, just playing for hours on end until it started to sound like something… I started singing when Elvis came along, a year or two after this blues thing got to us."

After playing around Goodwill, White headed for Memphis, changing his mind en route and settling in Nashville. He soon caught the ear of Bob Beckham, who ran Monument Records, home to Dolly Parton, Ray Stevens, and Roy Orbison. Monument signed White and assigned him Ray Stevens' "Georgia Pines" as his first single. Live, White was performing with a drummer and making use of a newly discovered wah-wah pedal.

Recorded with such Muscle Shoals musicians as David Briggs, Norbert Putnam, and Jerry Carrigan, White's first album, 1969's Black And White, featured such originals as "Willie And Laura Mae Jones" and "Polk Salad Annie," along with such covers as Jimmy Webb's "Wichita Lineman." The album's boldly arranged blues didn't make much of a splash, except in France, where "Soul Francisco" became a huge hit. "Polk Salad Annie" took off domestically as the album's third single.

Released later that year, White's second album, ...Continued, featured the same Muscle Shoals players, along with Mike Utley, Tommy McClure, and Sammy Creason. Tony Joe came out in 1970, revealing an absence of the horns that had been so dominant on the previous records, and anchored by White's acoustic guitar. Following an electrifying performance at the legendary Isle Of Wight festival, White moved to Warner Bros. Records, ending this first chapter. He has continued to write and record.

Reg. $79.98. Get it for $55.99 (that's 30% off) today only, at:

www.rhino.com/product/swamp-music-the-complete-monument-years?eml=rn/120814/logo

**Offer valid from 12 am PST until 11:59 pm PST Mon, Dec 8, 2014. While supplies last.

Straight No Chaser: "The Happy Hour Tour," plays the Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts, in Thousand Oaks, Mon, Dec 29, 8 pm.
+
If the phrase "male a cappella group" conjures up an image of students in blue blazers, ties, and khakis singing traditional college songs on ivied campuses ... think again. Straight No Chaser (SNC) are neither strait-laced nor straight-faced, but neither are they vaudeville-style kitsch. They have emerged as a phenomenon with a massive fanbase, numerous national TV appearances and proven success with CD releases. They're performing on the heels of the release of Under The Influence, their fourth album release through Atlantic Records. The album features contributions from superstars Jason Mraz, Rob Thomas, Phil Collins, Dolly Parton and more! Straight No Chaser is the real deal, the captivating sound of ten unadulterated human voices coming together to make extraordinary music that is moving people in a fundamental sense ... and with a sense of humor. On the road, Straight No Chaser has built a reputation as an unforgettable live act.

For Caponigro, Ireland and Britain became sites of creative energy to which he returned repeatedly. Davidson brought the same gritty street sensibility that had made his Brooklyn Gang series a sensation among photograph collectors. The exhibition examines the artistic, social, and historical forces informing two master pho-tographers as they bring American eyes to enduring landscapes and changing cultural scenes.
