7:15-8 pm. "PROTEST SONGS ON UKULELE" by GEO. McCALIP, at It’s A Grind Coffeehouse, 247 Pine Av, Long Beach 90802.
+
In the last two and a half years, Geo. has developed an interesting niche, writing and performing protest songs on ukulele. In the true tradition of folk music, some of his songs are rewrites of other tunes -- “Metro," for example, is his L.A.-based rewrite of “M.T.A.” Some of his songs are completely original, like his “Airport Security Blues."
+
All songs feature Geo.’s unique perspective and sense of of humor. Where else are you going to hear about the evil Amish crime syndicate taking on the law?
+
Geo. is the special opening guest artist for Robby Ravenwood’s Open Mic. Find more on Geo. and his music at http://geo.mccalip.com.

+
Brian Fennegan & William Coulter combines Irish flute and whistle wizard Brian Finnegan, and Grammy Award-winning guitarist William Coulter. Both are veterans of the traditional music world.
+
Brian spent the last many years touring and recording with the legendary Anglo-Irish band Flook, who won the Best Group at the BBC Folk Awards in 2006.
+
William has been exploring traditional music for over 20 years and has performed with some of the best musicians on both sides of the Atlantic. He won a Grammy in 2004 for his solo guitar contribution to "Henry Mancini: Pink Guitar."
+
Brian and William met at the Boxwood flute camp in Nova Scotia during the summer of 2008, where both were teaching. A concert was in the works and the lads enjoyed playing together so much they talked about the possibility of touring as a duo.
+
When Flook disbanded amicably at the end of 2008, the time seemed right for Brian and Bill to join forces. These two virtuosos play original and traditional tunes with masterful technique and fluidity. Their dynamic energy and artistry is an experience not to be missed. This is their third US tour together.
+
'Brian Finnegan...a thrilling talent, marvellous technical dexterity, bold musical imagination and urgent tone combining in playing of breathtaking suppleness and delicacy' -- Scotland on Sunday.
+
'William's advanced sense of guitar melody, texture and resonance makes him one of the best ever from the Bay Area.' -- Mike Meyer, KKUP-FM.
+
Tix, $20.
