It's like nothing else, with more than two-dozen stages (with sound systems) hosting over 5,000 performers from throughout the musical heart of the 100+ cultural communities of the Pacific Northwest. And where it all happens, at Seattle Center, is like no place else: the city chose to preserve its entire World's Fair site — which is really the only way there could be a venue-rich environment for this to happen. And it's been there for over 45 years. The festival brings up to 250,000 people over four days, but it rarely feels crowded, because the place is enormous. And you really can race from stage-to-stage to catch what you want to see. The festival hosts some marvelous free workshops, too. It "is the place to learn, to dance, to play, to try something new, and to discover arts and cultures that inspire celebration of one another and our big neighborhood. From yodeling to beatboxing, square dancing to Bollywood – the festival celebrates the global traditions of local, independent artists... In keeping our commitment to remove any economic barriers and ensure that everyone can experience and share in cultural traditions, the 46th annual Northwest Folklife is presented without admission charge, creating the most inclusive, wide reaching arts experience."
