FESTIVAL QUICKIE…
Festival season, as always, suddenly slows and seems like it all but ends as spring becomes summer, and many places just get too hot for Southern Californians who think it’s broiling if it hits 80 degrees.
> This weekend is the wonderful annual “KATE WOLF MUSIC FESTIVAL” in Northern Cal, and closer to home, the
> Annual “OBON FESTIVAL” with “world music & culture,” Sat & Sun at San Fernando Valley Buddhist Temple, and the
> 15th Annual “BELIZE CAYE FEST” Sat & Sun at Hollywood Park Casino in Inglewood.
> On July 4th, if you’re in the Northwest, check-out the annual “WATERFRONT BLUES FEST” in Portland, Oregon, July 4-8; it includes Cajun & Zydeco music and plenty of da blues.
> Saturday, July 7 brings the “SAN PEDRO SQUEEZE ACCORDION FESTIVAL” for a single-evening, with an 8 pm start; it’s not in San Pedro, but at California Plaza in downtown L.A.
> Saturday, July 21, in Northern Cal is the “COWBOYS & CORNBREAD FESTIVAL,” featuring the “Hangtown Harmonica Championship” in Camino, CA.
> Sunday, July 22 brings the annual, all-day “SEA CHANTEY FESTIVAL” aboard the “Star of India,” the tall ship (that’s a sailing ship, matey) at the San Diego Maritime Museum.
> Saturday, July 28, is the “NOHO MIDSUMMER NIGHTS COFFEE HOUSE & MUSIC FESTIVAL” for a single-evening at the ARC Center in North Hollywood.
> Saturday & Sunday, July 28 & 29, is the 19th annual “LONG BEACH CRAWFISH FESTIVAL” with great Cajun / zydeco and blues music and the gotta-have-it crawfish-platter-with-admission-option that’s an absolutely outrageous amount of food.
> Friday-Sunday, August 17-19 is the 10th Annual “SUMMERGRASS SAN DIEGO BLUEGRASS MUSIC FESTIVAL” in Vista.
> Sunday, August 19 is the 2nd annual “ROSE PARK BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL” in Long Beach.
> We will keep you posted on others, as they get close; these and some others, including festivals this fall, are already in the Guide’s long-range editions.
+
MANY MORE EVENTS will be here for you tomorrow, in a new, complete edition. Meantime, to see all the upcoming events that we’ve already published beyond those for today & tonight, see the Guide’s June 22 edition, our last complete one, published and available below (or by clicking the sidebar at left, depending which site you’re on). Of course, that’s obsolete with tomorrow’s new one.
