Wednesday, June 6 Quickie...

.
.
Tonight on TV, "O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU" airs twice, at 5 and 7:30 pm, on AMC. Check your cable or satellite provider for channel. If you haven't seen it, this is the film that sparked the old-time string band renaissance. It stars GEORGE CLOONEY, and it's been described as a hillbilly version of Homer's "The Odyssey." To us, that's a reach, but it is a lot of fun, and has plenty of Depression-era feel-good music.

Of course, you may be watching the "D-Day Marathon" on the Military Channel, since today is the anniversary of the Allied invasion that began the liberation of Europe from Nazi tyranny. That June 6th was in 1944, and it was a Tuesday that will always be known as "The Longest Day," both for what its participants endured, and for all that hung in the balance.

All the live music events are in the June 1 edition, available just below (or by clicking in the sidebar, at right, if you're reading the full web edition). One change: this week only, JC Hykes' weekly Songwriter Serenade at Matt Denny's Ale House in Arcadia happens on WEDNESDAY, due to an election-night party at the venue last night.

More on Thursday.
