FESTIVALS happen this holiday weekend, and one starts today / tonight: Noon to 9 pm, "E HULA MAU" brings hula and chant competition, a slack key guitar workshop, and more, to the Terrace Theater at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. WEEKEND FESTIVALS include the new "MAMMOTH BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL" in the Eastern Sierra at Mammoth Lakes; the fall edition of the twice-a-year "STRAWBERRY MUSIC FESTIVAL" near Yosemite; Saturday's "BROAD FEST," a free one-day celebration of the 5th season at Santa Monica's Broad Stage with two stages of music; and the "E HULA MAU," through Sunday, described above.

At 8 pm, INGLISH & LOUISE divert from their Midwest tour for one night at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena, performing there with SCHOOLCRAFT & MURRAY. $15.

8 pm to 1 am, PRIME CUT BLUES, plus the BOBBY BLUEHOUSE BAND, play the Arcadia Blues Club. $5 cover.

FREE at 8 pm, it's the "COMMUNITY IRISH CEILI DANCE INTRODUCTION" with music by KEN O'MALLEY and dance instruction by the lovely ALICE RYAN, presented by the Ford Theatre Foundation's "Jazzed And Motivated - J.A.M. Sessions," at Hollywood's Lemon Grove Park, 4959 Lemon Grove Av, between Santa Monica Bl, Western Av, Normandie, and Melrose. Free.

8-10 pm in Topanga Canyon, it's "BLUE MOON BLUEGRASS" with MURPHY'S FLAW and musician friends MATT WHITLER, RACHEL SUMNER, and LAUREN DONAHUE, at Froggy's Topanga Fish Market, 1105 N Topanga Cyn Bl. It really IS a blue moon tonight, and they'll have blue food - bleu cheese burgers, Blue Moon Beer, etc.

At 8:15 pm, LAVAY SMITH & HER RED HOT SKILLET LICKERS play the Orange County Great Park, Sand Cyn and Marine Way, Irvine.

9 pm-1 am, WUMBLOOZO, that fun harmonica-based blues band, plays their last show 'til October, at Silly's, 20160 Roscoe Bl, Winnetka 91306.

At 9:30 pm, CLIFF WAGNER & THE OLD NUMBER 7 play the Cinema Bar in Culver City. No cover; bring $ for the artists' tip jar.
