UPDATE at 5:22 pm: LISA HALEY CONCERT has moved inside the library; Farmers Market cancelled, due to the sudden downpour of rain...
.
The "End of Summer Concert Celebration" brings Grammy-noms LISA HALEY & THE ZYDEKATS, playing 5-6:30 pm on an outdoor stage outside the library at 1115 El Centro St, South Pasadena. That's just around the corner, off the southeast end of the weekly Farmers Market. There tonight, WHEN PIGS FLY play their dulcimer-based folk music from 4-7 pm on the stage at the other end of the market, at Mission & Meridian (next to the Gold Line light rail's Mission Station). Bring a chair or blanket and catch some of both.
.
Also adjacent to the market, BARRY "BIG B" BRENNER plays his weekly acoustic blues gig, 6-9 pm at Firefly Bistro, 1009 El Centro, South Pasadena.
.
In Santa Monica, NEW ORLEANS OWN HOT 8 BRASS BAND, plus THE GUMBO BROTHERS, play this year's closing show of the 28th annual "Santa Monica Pier Twilight Dance Series." It's 7-10 pm and it's free, though nearby parking is pricey. Free street parking is about 3/4 mile inland...
.
This month's "AMERICANA MUSIC CIRCLE" brings JOHNNY TOWNSEND, TED RUSSELL KAMP, and performing hostess LAUREN ADAMS and her band to Genghis Cohen in L.A., and they start at 7 pm. (More on the musicians in the Guide's full edition.)
.
ERIC BIBB'S STRING BAND, including DIRK POWELL and CEDRIC WATSON, each a music legend in his ow ann right, are the best show this year at the Skirball Cultural Center, just off the 405 fwy atop Sepulveda Pass. That's at 8 pm.
.
Up in Altadena, TED & PABLO bring their "Transcontinental Musical Express" to the Coffee Gallery Backstage at 8 pm.
.
Down in south OC, HAPA and AOLANI KAEKA bring the music of Hawai'i to the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano at 8.
.
Believe it or not, there's even MORE happening tonight, and plenty tomorrow and in the days and weeks following. Everything - the most comprehensive presentation of folk-americana, acoustic renaissance, and roots music available ANYWHERE - is always in the latest edition of the Acoustic Americana Music Guide's "Spotlight Events" section. For the moment, the most current edition is August 24, and it's available below or in the sidebar at left, depending on which edition you are reading.
