First, here's a review in time to do you some good, since you can still go today.

TICKET TO THE TWENTIES is a delightful festival, and it's FREE, with free parking. The Guide was there Saturday and thouroughly enjoyed JANET KLEIN & HER PARLOR BOYS and the DEAN MORA ORCHESTRA.

The latter featured BENNY BRYDERN on a crazy 1910 instrument that's a sort of frame fiddle with a metal resonating chamber and a flaring sound bell, like a Victrola horn. And sitting-in was tuba impresario WESTY WESTENHOFER.

On the stage at the opposite end of the magnificent grounds, JANET KLEIN was at her hotsy-totsy best, with Grammy-winner IAN WHITCOMB in her band. Ian is back today, with his own act.

There's first-rate live music from the 1920s era, simply splendid, with dancing and free dance instruction throughout the day (learn from the troupe that does 20s dance at the Hollywood Bowl).

There's a big display of beautifully restored cars of the period.

There's the air-conditioned indoor screenings of silent movies with LIVE music accompaniment.
+
There are free tours of the fully furnished mansion and other buildings on the grounds.
+
You can buy a '20s hat or fashion accessory to dazzle 'em next time you play a show.

Food trucks offer good fare. And it really did'nt feel too hot under all the shade trees. Go. Take your lawn chair. Dress like a flapper. It really is a lot if fun. And it's free.

Blues fans should head for Ventura. The annual "BLUES, BREWS & BBQs" Festival is in conjunction with the CALIFORNIA BEER FESTIVAL, noon-5 pm. Details in the full edition.

The PORT OF LOS ANGELES LOBSTER FEST, with performances today by THE BLASTERS at 5 and CAPTAIN JEFF & HIS MUSICAL CHUMBUCKETS at 2 pm.

The 9th annual ARTIVIST FILM FESTIVAL and ARTIVIST AWARDS are in Hollywood.

The annual celebration of MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY is at El Pueblo Monument, the big plaza next to Olvera Street in downtown L.A. (Ride one of the light rail lines to Union Station and save parking hassels.)

The annual THAI CULTURAL DAY is in Barnsdall Art Park in Hollywood.

There's good acoustic music at Adams Pack Station, easy to reach in the San Gabriel Mountains above Arcadia.

The monthly WESTERN MUSIC JAM, really a song circle, is at the Autry Museum in Griffith Park.

The fun melodrama, REX BRAVO, THE WHISTLING COWBOY, has a 2 pm matinee in Moorpark.

The GRAND OLE ECHO is in Echo Park.

JAMIE LAVAL, US National Scottish Fiddle Champ, is in Santa Barbara.

FREDDY JOHNSTON plays McCabe's.

The BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA closes-out the three-night FIREWORKS FINALE at the Hollywood Bowl.

The MARIACHI USA FESTIVAL is at the L.A. County Fair in Pomona. See the Guide to the Fair in the opening section of the full edition, published Sep 14.

Finally, a special mention of a TV show: 7-8 pm, "HISTORY DETECTIVES" airs its Season Ten premiere. They examine an electric guitar to determine if it is THE guitar that BOB DYLAN infamously played at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, when PETE SEEGER went hunting for a fire axe to cut the cord. Also segments on authenticating BEATLES autographs and a FRANK ZAPPA-connected thrift-store find. It's on KLCS from L.A., the only PBS affiliate that doesn't interrupt music shows with pledge drive begging.
