.
=+=+=+=+=+=+
.
Here's the full edition, as published Tuesday morning, with additions...
.
Thanksgiving may be so close you can already smell the aromas of the feast. But there’s still time for music, before you get drafted for KP. Along with the live performances, there are PLENTY of listings in this edition for music on TV, right through the holiday!
.
We don’t know about you, but we are boycotting all stores that are making their employees come in Thanksgiving night to begin their “Black Friday” sales. Those greedy bastards that control those stores should be ashamed of themselves that they won’t give their employees that important family time. After all, where would ANY business be without its employees? And we are supporting “Small Business Day,” because, for some of us, EVERY day needs to be small business day. That said, please choose what you buy and where you buy it with others in mind, so we can all be thankful to each other.
.
AND, having passed 175,000 page views this year (so far), we are already and rapidly nearing 180,000. Thanks for welcoming us onto your screens, large and small, and letting us be your Guide.
. .

Here’s the Thanksgiving music scene. More, soon.

The Brombies are a Los Angeles,CA band formed by Jo Ellen & George Doering in the late 1980's. All of the band members have played different styles of music from an early age,but for the past five years they've been dedicated to traditional bluegrass. They've all been performing as professional musicians for too long to even mention & as individuals they each have a long list of credits. They are all prominent in the southern California recording & bluegrass scene. With Jo Ellen on guitar & vocals,George on mandolin & vocals,Bill Bryson on bass & vocals and Patrick Sauber on banjo & vocals you've got an exciting band full of talent and experience. These seasoned performers travel all over the western states playing at various bluegrass festivals.
+
The band places a lot of emphasis on the vocal harmonies and instrumentals, but their primary goal is to present their original songs and to play some music that might lift the spirits of the audience for that brief time they are there. Jo Ellen & George were winners in the Bluegrass & Gospel categories for the Chris Austin Songwriters Contest at Merlefest in 2007,2009 & 2010. They've also been honored to perform in the IBMA Songwriters Showcase in Nashville in 2006 & 2010. Rhonda Vincent has recorded "Anywhere Is Home When You're With Me", one of Jo Ellen and George's songs from their first CD. *

Some have a great deal of professional experience and some are working up to that. Beth [performing host BETH FITCHET WOOD] plays a 45 minute set first (because she can) and then there are 3 or 4 other acts who do short sets. It's a very intimate setting, and all experiment with their new stuff. The audience is of the highest quality and the performers love playing for them.” -- Joyce Woodson.

~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~
. .
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
.
~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~
. .
Today is, historically, a tragic and dark day in American history, not because it falls on Thanksgiving, but because the date is November 22. On this day in 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, while riding in a motorcade. We have never been the same since. We have become a nation obsessed with conspiracy theories, scarred by Vietnam, with a seeming need to engage in endless wars to assuage our national ego and our national sense that we are winners, no matter what, and no matter what the cost. At least we had the space program that Kennedy gave us, an achievement that remains unparalleled, even if it was largely abandoned after 1972, and especially since the end of the Space Shuttle program with nothing bold to replace it.

11 am to 2 pm "THE LEARNING GARDEN THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY POTLUCK FEAST" is at the Learning Garden, on the campus at Venice High School, 13000 Venice Bl, Venice 90066; 310-722-3656; learninggardenmaster@yahoo.com.
+
Every year, musician and Garden Master DAVID KING welcomes members of the community to bring a potluck dish and join-in with special guests, the international Victims of Torture. David says, "For some of them, this is their introduction to the holiday of Thanksgiving and often they bring food from their country to share with us." Yes, spending a little time with members of that organization absolutely does enable you to find your gratitude and sense of thankfulness, as you share theirs.
+
List all ingredients on a readable card or sheet to be displayed with your potluck dish, so those with dietary restrictions will be able to enjoy their feast.
+
The event is on the patio. Outdoors, so dress appropriately. David says, "Yes, we will have plenty of food for vegetarians! And we hope gratitude floods you and yours in this season of the harvest. We are grateful to the many, many hands that have made - and continue to make - The Learning Garden one of the premier school gardens in the Los Angeles area."

Thanks for all those TV inclusions. While I won't be spending Thanksgiving alone, I will need respite from guests.

My comment is about tv, too. GWTW (that's Gone with the Wind for the non superfans) also screens all day in AMC. Remaining times are 3pm, 8pm & 1am. You will be bothered with commercials there. On TCM, it is screened with NO commercial interruptions. For anyone who has never seen it, your life is incomplete till you do! Sylvie

It is absolutely NOT obvious how to post a comment here. Can you fix it before I forget what I did when I want to comment again sometime?

I appreciate that you take a shot at the greedy bastards and their focus on this Black Friday business. Nothing is sacred to them. Nothing. At least today the Papa John Pizza jerk and the the guy who owns something like a few dozen of the world's Denny's both backed down on their BS about adding surcharges to restaurant tabs because they were being forced to give their employees health care. Boo-hoo for them, after paying too little and exploiting their own people for so long. All so they could afford their third yachts or whatever, when a waitress can hardly afford rent. If anyone needs to understand the true meaning of Thanksgiving: of owing your SURVIVAL to what others do for you, from the Pilgrims owing the Indians right on down to NOW, it should be the rich jerks who boo-hoo over providing health care to their own people who keep them in business. Which is more than I thought I would say about agreeing with you, and that we will be staying out of all the stores that make their people work on Thanksgivng night too. Just so they can start their stupid sales sooner! They are such bastards! Viva small business and ETHICAL business!
