TICKET ALERT /
SPECIAL FEATURE STORY:
RUN BOY RUN
~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~
.
They're a hot bluegrass / old-time band who've TWICE performed on radio's "A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION." They won the ultra-prestigious "Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Contest." And they are playing only ONE Southern California show -- in a small venue -- during their national tour. This'll sell-out QUICKLY, so jump on it.
.
★ RUN BOY RUN is an exciting young band from Tucson, Arizona. They have a special gift for writing original songs in the classic old time / bluegrass styles, and feature a unique instrumental mix of twin fiddles, mandolin, cello and bass, along with three female lead singers with beautiful harmonies.
.
Garrison Keillor, host of "A Prairie Home Companion," didn't just book them twice; he raves about them: "Hot instruments and beautiful, sweet harmony singing - that's all you need in the world today! When I hear Run Boy Run, it all comes back to me, why I started doing that show back then. I hope they go on forever."
.
Venue impresario Bob Stane says, "Existing in the tension between tradition and frontier, Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Contest winner and Two Time Prairie Home Companion guests RUN BOY RUN truly exceeds the sum of its parts as touches of classical, jazz, and folk express themselves through the old-time core of the band’s unique sound."
.
The band's members include two sets of siblings. Brother and sister Matt Rolland (fiddle & guitar) and Grace Rolland (cello & vocals), combine with sisters Bekah Sandoval (fiddle & vocals) and Jen Sandoval (mandolin & vocals). The band is completed by Jesse Allen (upright bass).
.
Called by Paste Magazine, "one of the top ten Arizona bands to hear now," Run Boy Run self-released their full-length album "So Sang the Whippoorwill" in March 2013 to critical regional and national acclaim.
.
From winning the band contest at "Pickin’ in the Pines" in the first weeks of forming in 2009, to playing the main stage at the "Telluride Bluegrass Festival" as band contest winners in 2012, to making a second appearance on "A Prairie Home Companion" in 2013, Run Boy Run is spreading their signature instrumentation and sweet three-part female harmony vocal music and youthful energy nationwide.
.
Brother and sister Matt and Grace Rolland have fiddle music running through their blood, raised with bow and rosin on every bedside table. The group's three female lead singers, sisters Bekah and Jen Sandoval, grew up deeply rooted in the bluegrass festivals of Arizona, so they too found a home in Run Boy Run. Bass player Jesse Allen was brought-up on opera and western swing, and grew to love the natural fusion inherent in American music. They're all solid, instrumentally, in a lavish string mix for the genre. The band's "whole" exceeds the sum of its formidable parts, incorporating touches of classical, jazz, and folk through the old-time core of Run Boy Run’s sound.
.
In addition to counting Garrison Keillor among their fans, it has been widely ibserved that Run Boy Run brings a special gift for writing original songs in the classic old time/bluegrass style, featuring a solid instrumental mix of twin fiddles, mandolin, cello and bass.
.
